I went to Brimfield flea mkt yesterday...

I'm supposed to be resting according to dr's orders since I've had trouble shaking my pneumonia from 4/5 weeks ago, but....I had arranged long ago to meet up with an old friend, so I just had to do it. (DH has ordered me to stay in my pj's for the rest of the weekend!)

Anyway, we were there for 8 hours and covered the whole thing. We stopped only for a quick sandwich. I didn't have a specific goal other than to hang out with my friend and maybe find a small bureau/nightstand for our little guest room. Figured that would be easy to find but I never found what I was looking for. However, I did find a coffee table for our family room...which wasn't at all on my agenda even though I was sort of getting tired of the metal one we had. Last night I rolled the metal one out to the screen porch, where it is PERFECT. And set up my new $80 coffee table inside.

It's obviously an old kitchen table that has been cut down. It has a leaf which makes it too big for the space but if we have need for a big game table during a party or something, the leaf will be great to have.

It's a bit quirky but I really like it.

PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE AND DO NOT USE FRONTLINE ON YOUR PET!!! It will KILL them!! Maybe not right away, but the effects it has on them can last for quite a while. This applies to heartworm medications as well! Our beloved dog Einstein was treated with Frontline before he was a year old, based on a recommendation of my Vet. I figured the Vet would know if there were any issues with this product and would not recommend anything that was bad (poisonous!) for our dog. After the treatment, he developed a huge sore on his back (at the treatment site) that did not go away for months. This was just the beginning. He began having asthma type symptom's after that. I knew exactly what had caused the problems. We only had Einy for six years when suddenly he got much worse and we took him into the Vet. They determined that he had cancer, but without opening him up, they could not determine exactly what organ was affected. Within a week of diagnosis, he died in my husbands arms. It was devastating! I would urge that people stand together to BAN this medication! This should not be on the market. Read all the warnings listed on the internet about this product. Give your dog or cat a bath. Fleas drown within a few minutes of being submerged. It is better than losing your pet like we did.

After my post I went out and looked at the bale of straw, just covered with the beasts. I'm guessing they were in the cool interior and I opened Pandora's box. The whole thing went in the city yard debris for compost. My pile will never kill them. Interestingly, last year I grew tomatoes in a straw bale with reasonable success and never had a flea beetle problem. Go figure! Time will determine how bad they get. I've been so busy at work, I forgot to follow-up with you on our trip! It was one of the BEST shows I've ever attended. We attended Sat. & Sun. However, we were surprised that they charged $3 per person as you drove in! But, at least we had great bathroom facilities and we really appreciated that. Many vendors were packing up on Sat. afternoon to go to a KY flea mkt. So, Sunday, there weren't a lot of people but still found a couple more treasures. I was happy that dealers were anxious to barter. Many would make a lower offer before we even said anything. My hunts were for old bird cage hangers as I like to use them to hold my hummingbird feeders & bird houses throughout my gardens. Found 2! Came home with a cute little vintage wire table (funky green color)perfect for my bath, old black iron cigarette stand for my husband, and an adorable metal coffee stand on 4 wheels. Didn't need any of these, but just couldn't leave without them! Many, many great ideas too. Several vendors had transformed old furniture that was just beautiful. There was something for everyone that was for sure. My friend and I had the back of my Escape packed with treasures! We were told too that the one in May is exceptional! Wear comfortable shoes as we walked and walked and walked. Couldn't see everything in one day - but we sure tried!

Is it possible that the white bigs are aphids? My lettuce outside tends to get pink or white aphids late in the season (spring). Since i've not tried them indoors and i don't buy plants, that's my guess. I'd probably try safer insecticidal soap or a combo of 1/2 rubbing alcohol, 1/2 water and a drop of dishsoap and tobasco in a spray bottle before i went to the trouble of finding neem (unless you already have it). That combo works well on aphids, but not so much on mealy bugs if that's your white stuff . It will knock them down for a while, but the only thing i've found that's non toxic that actually kills mealies (or scale, which mealies are related to)for good is dormant or light oil sprays. Dormant for stuff without leaves, light for stuff that's growing. Usually the same stuff can be used for both- it's just the dilution rate. The winter crops are really quite cold tolerant, and if they do have some damage, will generally outgrow it before long. I don't protect my stuff til it's going into the teens unless it's a sudden drop that they wouldn't be acclimated to. Of course, the more you protect, the more usable crop you'll get from them when it's very cold. My goal isn't that- it's just for them to get cranking as soon as it's stable-ish in feb-march. Not that i don't enjoy winter crops, i'm just too cold natured and lazy in winter to be fussing in the garden.

I love a table that's big enough to be useful! Like the clipped corners and turned legs, too. Don't you love finding something perfect when you weren't expecting it? Glad you are feeling better!

Same here phonelady, used to live in Boston and made it to Brimfield once ... the kids were little then and it never seemed like a good time to be away for the whole day and it can be pretty hot this time of year.

It only took me a little over an hour to get there, and yet it had been probably 10 years since the last time I'd been! My friend and I have vowed to make it an annual event now.

I definitely saw enough interesting things that I could have outfitted a whole house if I had to... just don't have any space for much new stuff right now. Also, sometimes we'd want to return and re-look at something but we couldn't orient ourselves enough to find it the second time!

If you don't mind, could I ask where you got your rug? I have a yellow room with navy leather sofa. Have been searching for months for the right rug so that I can move on to fabrics for chairs, but yellow has been proving a hard color for other than contemporary rugs. I love yours!

You lucky duck! Neat table. I'm less than an hour from Round Top and 'do my duty' and go twice a year. I have hopes of getting to the Brimfield Market some day, but my travels seem to take me more south than east.

Meau, that's a Nourison Nourmak rug (flat weave). I have a rug in the adjacent living room in the same brand, different design but same color palette. I got mine several years ago from Decora Rugs online, but I don't think the store exists any more.

Arcy, you're right, I hadn't noticed that until you pointed it out.

Love the table. I bought an antique kitchen table when our three were young. DH cut the legs down so we could use it in our den. Had a drawer so it was perfect to hide remotes, crayons, etc. Still using it today! Great find!
