Does anyone else out there use a digital camera for scrapbooking? I am concerned with the life-span of the pictures. I am using an HP printer and HP paper. When I contacted HP, they said that they would only guarantee that the images would last without significant fading, etc. for a year. I don't want to spend all of this time making beautiful pages only to find out the pictures will be ruined in a few years. HELP!

I don't know what to tell you. This is the reason I have no interest in owning a digital camera.

I love my digital camera but I don't use it for scrapbooking! We have so many family members that are out of state but have computers that we got the camera to send them pictures. I use a regular camera for scrapbooking (yes, I do end up carrying two cameras to "big" events!!) I have made a lot of color copies of some of the older pictures that I don't have duplicates for and these blend nicely with the regular pictures and, unless I point them out, no one has noticed a difference once the page is finished. Keep the digital for emailing .... use a regular camera for scrapbooking JMHO!

I have a smartparts and love it, the remote is about the size of a pack of playing cards but very thin but easy to see with large buttons, all I have to do is stick my usb thumb drive in it and upload the pictures to the frame memory, it turns off each night at a specified time and turns on in the morning at a set time, it is great and very easy to use. I really like it and would recommend it, my husband got it for me for Christmas from costco. I just got a little piece of the self stick velcro and stick the remote to the back of the frame so I don't lose it. You do not need any type of connection other than plugging it into the power. Mine is 8.4 inches which is perfect for my desk. It does the various fades in and out and auto rotation and transitions, the pics are extremely clear.

Hi Foggyi! I've used Mod Podge for all the items I've decoupaged. However, I too had problems with bleeding when using pictures from my ink jet printer. I think using the spray acrylic is a great idea, and I will give it a try. As to your sticky problem, did you let the layer of Mod Podge dry thoroughly before adding another coat? You mentioned that you painted it, too. Was the paint dry before adding the decoupage? That's the only thing I can think of. I've not had any problems with tackiness on my projects. You may want to start over, especially if it's really humid where you live. Good luck! Hope this helps!

I doubt if you want to mail large photos with rare exceptions, sometimes I send and receive large files for one reason or another; when I do, I upload it to my webspace and then send a link. From there, the recipient can download and save. There is a place you can use to send large files that I believe is reliable and free. It sounds like you need to resize. I don't know your program, but resizing is pretty straightforward and intuitive, some methods retain better quality than others. Look in your help files, look at all your menu options and see if there is an "image size" or "resize" or "resample" or "crop tool" where you can enter numbers or percentages. I like to crop most of mine to 800 pixels by 600 pixels and compress when I save usually for posting on the web and email attachments. I usually resize just using the percentage method or by cropping in Adobe PS CS2, no sense in trying to explain that. I just posted this link for somebody else around here. Digital picture frame, feedback on brands?

I want to give my father one of those digital picture frames that the family members can send pictures to. Does anybody have one of those, or have you given one to somebody, and you have some feedback on the different brands available? I just started googling it, and I feel like I’m going down a rabbit hole of either misinformation or invalid reviews!

You should be able to get your digital pictures printed by a company such as Ofoto. I asked one of their people about their printing process and received this response:

"Our process uses optimized traditional silver-halide photographic paper that's exposed pixel by pixel by a light source inside of our digital printers. The process mimics traditional photography where light from your subject would expose photographic film inside of a camera. Ofoto uses KODAK PROFESSIONAL Digital III Color Paper, a resin-coated, silver-halide color paper designed for digital printers that use LED, CRT, or laser printing devices. The photographs we image at Ofoto have the same archival quality as 35mm prints because they are real photos."

They're currently having a special where you can get 100 prints made free. I've tried them, and their prints are fantastic!

I believe I read in Dear Abby that a professional photographer warned about using digital camera photos for scrapbooking because they are not archival quality and also the possiblity of not being able to retrieve the pictures as technology advances. He suggested that if you must use a digital camera, get negatives made so that you can get regular pictures for your scrapbook. Also I don't believe the technology is here yet got get good prints off a a printer unless you spend a fortune for a printer.

For those reasons I prefer to use a regular camera and scan the pictures for e-mailing.

Roberta mentioned that she has had color copies made of photos. I know they look just like the original photo, but are they archival quality? I've been meaning to ask a local copy shop, but haven't gotten around to it.

My sister prints her photos out on special paper from Kodak made for printers. I thought they were archival. You could always laminate the printer copies, couldn't you?
