Garage door wont open, no other way into garage

Hi all, I've a unique problem here. I had a problem with my fuse box. After gettin it fixed my garage door wont open. It seems the remote freq is reseted. And I dont have another way into garage. Can anyone suggest me a solution to my problem.. Any ideas.. Thanks a ton in advance..

I passed by wheelie's house earlier this evening
& they were still standing on the drive
scratching their heads & staring at the door.
wheelie looked kinda chilly.

Sounds to me like you're going to be cutting a hole in your garage door. Replacement panels are often available from the door manufacturer.

The make a locking release system for garages like yours. Basically it pulls on the emergency release cord of the opener.

Howdy, 2 options. A- UNPLUG the unit. Get up on a ladder if you can safely, and look at the lightbulb socket contacts. Sand or srape them clean, or replace teh socket if its all pitted. B-Or if you have a VOM and know how to use it SAFELY ON A LIVE CIRCUIT, check for 120v at the socket. I strongly recommend using option A!!! Good luck. Dave,

Im no mechanic but I have had a few problems over the years with garage doors. Firstly you need to release the door from the overhead track you should have a cord hanging down and by pulling this should disconect the door and allow you to manually lift the door. By doing this you will eliminate the posibility that there is something jamming the track or that it has for some reason jumped out of time. Try it up and down a few times be carefull coming down its heavy. You may also want to check that theres nothing breaking the lite on the way up like weather stripping. Hope these help

There are two completely separate possible problems. Problem #1 is a noisy LED (not, sound noise, but electrical noise that makes radio interference) that makes it more difficult for the radio signal from remote to base to work. Problem #2 is a capacitor on the board that wears out with age that affects the wireless capabilities. The LED bulb doesn't cause a bad capacitor or vice versa. These are cumulative issues, but unrelated in cause. So, it's slightly possible that a combination of these two issues could exist where the cumulative effects of both are enough to make it not work. But, one doesn't cause the other. Test #1 is to just temporarily remove any bulbs from the opener and see if that makes a difference in how the wireless remote works. If it does, then you probably just need a better bulb. If it doesn't, then the next most likely cause is the capacitor. For my opener, the bulbs made no difference. Mine was fixed by replacing the capacitor and is now working fine (at 25 years old).

Hopefully your car is on the outside?

Anyway, similar to what the previuos poster recommended.
You can cut a hole near top center of the garage door with a hole saw. This might allow you reach the release cord. You may have to get creative with a wire coat hanger and a broom handle or something to reach it though.

If this doesn't work, remove the entire panel.

Well, I hope he got in by now, but putting a hole in the door will cost money to repair.
If it was me;
I would strip a few panels of siding off the garage wall and then cut a hole in the sheeting behind the siding just big enough to crawl thru and open the door. Then the siding could be put back on and there would be no cost involved other than personal labor.... and the prospect of trying to get a panel to match an existing garage door (with fading and such) doesn't sound like any fun.

rharvster you are assuming he has siding. What if his garage is stucco?

A door technician would drill a hole about chest high in the door and using a special tool would hook the rope and release the door. Then he would install a locking mechanical release in the hole to prevent this happening again. Not cheap by any means but look at the other options. This should have been done when the opener was originally installed but no one wants the additional expense.

I'm guessing that spam dug up the thread and then kirkhall commented on it. Spam seems to be a bigger problem now that Houzz has taken over. It gets removed quickly, but it seems to get posted more frequently.

LOL, hurray for old threads. Time to install a door to the garage. Either a door to the garage or a garage door with a keyhole on the outside are pretty much something you should have. Sounds like someone did a DIY without thinking of a failsafe.
