Looking at all the messages Feb. 5/00, I would like to know if we are interested in all or part of the following:

(1)Old-fashioned paper scrapbooks in which to glue articles, photos .

(2) Stick-on,binder type or spiral with little paper edges for photos type.

(3) Cyber sharing-scanning articles, photos & stuff on a specific subject to share with others who are also collecting same subject matter.

(4) Question for my daughter who recently got married. She has checked out U.S. & Canadian sources, camera stores, photography studios, yellow pages etc. & is looking for the type of wedding album where each photos is in its own frame or fitting on each page(can be several shapes of photos on one page) & protective cover over each page, which costs less than $500. U.S. or not. She's a graphic artist & photolithographic printer & is about to create her own since what she wants is not cheap nor easy to find.

(5) What is "Creative Memories" mentioned in 2 submissions?

(6) I have old fashioned paper scrapbooks with glued articles on some subjects, & also jazz up my holiday albums with tickets, samples of flora, brochure info. in between, like a collage.These albums (16) are both spiral(add pages) & book form, stick on pages wit plastic sheet over each page)

YIKES!! (LOL) Where to start! :)
I love the old fashioned scrapbooks where things are glued in etc. But, with all the talk of acid in the papers and glues destroying the photos over time, I have opted for the Creative Memories albums and supplies.

I think it would be wonderful to share ideas, pictures etc with everyone who is working on the same theme. It would also be great for everyone to post their favourite scrapbooking sites here. There are soooo many of them, that it would be nice to know which ones people have found useful.

Creative Memories is an American company that sells (through home parties)Scrapbooking supplies. They are expensive but from my point of view, well worth the money. They sell different sizes of albums all with acid free, buffered pages, acid free photo mounting papers, adhesives, acid free stickers and die cuts for decorating your pages, and all the tools you could imagine...scissors, rulers, templates etc...does that help?

Just thought, maybe I should introduce myself..I am in Ontario, Canada, have been scrapbooking for about 6 years, am a "retired" (ha ha) Creative Memories consultant, and am working on my 7th album. (Have two sons, 9 and 5)
When I first started to scrapbook, I only used Creative Memories products and was careful what I put in my albums, making sure they were acid free etc. However, in the last little while, I have found that that really isn't my "style" I have started to add all kinds of things..pressed flowers, memorabilia, lots of things, that really remind me of the old fashioned type of scrapbooks.

Well...sorry so long! I love the idea of this forum, and think we can all share some great ideas

i'm a fan of the old-fashioned variety. i think this "acid-free" business is just that, a business. my scrapbooks are travel-related. i just take a glue stick and blank notebook when i travel, and stick and scribble as i go. this seems to turn out a book that is much more "of the moment" than one that is a product of some company's idea of "cute." i don't mean to sound so negative, but i want my books to be about me, not a bunch of products!

Just a idea, they sell numbers beads like the ones used for names, bead on the year and maybe some other cute beads for decorating, and let it hang from the book like a beaded bookmark would, you could also use that neat yarn stuff to string the beads on, jute and nylon string, lots of ways to do it! another idea would be to make a tag and glue on the number charms you were talking about, let it hang from the album spine, guess it depends on the style you are looking for also. omg all the hours you must have spent on your albums! good luck with your project. oddie

Dear Lori, The best advice I can give you is to buy a good scrapbook idea book. It can give you the basics, and be there later in the middle of the night (yeah, after the addiction takes hold you will do it at all hours.LOL) when everyone else is gone to bed, to help answer your questions and give you good ideas on what to do with your pages. There are plenty available at Walmart. I think there is one there for about $12.00 (good money spent) that has a brownish cover that is great for beginners. Penny

I did not want this post to just have one or two messages because I really think what you are doing is wonderful and we should offer whatever help we can. Your daughter is very lucky to have you do this for her. The way I did my books fast but with great detail was to not get all wrapped up in making it too fancy. Keep it simple. You can choose several primary colors for your papers. One idea I do is to have each page have one of the colors. So the first pages will be red, second pages blue, then green then yellow. Then start the colors all over again. You can lay out the pages first then assign the colors. But stick with just a few colors so the book will have a nice flow. And just remember, too much, can be too much. The reason I redid my daughter's baby book was because it was too buzy, too many different colors that did not flow when going page to page. If you are spending too much time trying to make it perfect, you won't have any fun. Keep asking for advise. You can also go to craft stores and they offer classes or days that you can go in with others. You will have folks to give you advise right then and there.

I was just wondering if there is a need for a bigger sheet of paper, I have two other people that also complain that the sheet sizes sometimes aren't big enough and would really like to find a supplier for bigger sheets of paper

I think the acid free thing is more than a business. I never put any of photos in magnetic albums however, a friend of mine put her childs baby photos in a magnetic album and now the child is only 6 and all the pages and the photos are already yellowed. So I have to believe that "acid free" is best.
