They look good to me, except for the dry soil in the spinach. It sounds like you are not giving either of them enough water, especially if you started with dry soil and have only sprayed. I would suggest continuing to put water in the saucers until they wont soak any more of it up. I would add water to the top of the spinach, not just bottom water it. It looks dry enough that it may be difficult to hydrate the soil. I use a water bottle with a drinking nipple. It makes it very easy to avoid flooding the seedling, since even holding the bottle upside down nothing comes out unless you squeeze it. Spinach like moist soil. Moving them closer to the lights. 2"-3" is what everyone recommends. At 5" they will get to leggy very soon. They dont need fertilizer until they have true leaves. Congrats on your babies - they should be just fine.

I used to grow Lithops and other mesembs and some dwarf cactus in my mid-town apartment, I used bookshelves that had 2-ft banks of fluorescent lights screwed into the undersides, and had the plants within 2-3" of the lights themselves - if the distance were any greater the light is not enough, you can do this for small species like the ones I mentioned, but something more leafy like bursera will not look very good under anything other than HID lamps, which are not practical in an apt. I also kept a small fan running 24-7, it built up black soot in about 3 days after cleaning it, just think of what the NYC air is doing to our lungs. There's nothing wrong with a sunny windowsill, you don't need supplements as long as you get about 3 hours of sun, just be careful not to knock the plant off! I used to go to the NY Cactus & Succ Society meetings, they were every other month on E 72nd, but it was mainly older folk, I did not fit in to that crowd and it was pretty lame.

Re: computer desk area in the nook ... What about a floating desk? Not this exact one, as you need something bigger, but just an idea of what I mean: https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/latitude-run-burgeo-reversible-floating-desk-w002115883.html It would free up floor space, could go on the wall opposite the closet door, and you’d still have your nice view. It’d be awesome if you could get one custom made, in a natural wood tone. You could also do something like this, going around the corner and under the window. Except unlike this example, your big, bulky items on the wall part, papers and low stuff under window to not block views. And you could add shelves above, if needed. If you’re interested in these sorts of set-ups, search ‘floating desks’. The only issue would be hiding cords somehow, but if you search ‘hiding computer cords’, lots of ideas come up. I think a wood accent wall with your TV would look very cool up there. You have plenty of natural light to do something like this.

That's OK Judy,
Take it easy and don't worry about it.
How's your sister doing? Better I hope?

That's cute Sue!

My sister is back in the hospital. She's been having problems all week and they finally took her by ambulance. From that hospital(closer) they shipped her off to the hospital where her kidney surgery was performed. Now she has trapped air in her abdomen, an elevated white cell count and low grade fever. They are going to do a cat scan to see what is going on.
Needless to say I have not been able to concentrate on making anything.
She could use some good thoughts and prayers.
