If so, yes I see what you are talking about after looking more closely and that does look nice. That is what you mean about "running bond" pattern? My ceilings are 9 ft. BTW. The project is already so ridiculous as far as cost, what's a few more bucks. The custom Alantra base is costing me over 2K. Couldn't find anyone around here that I trusted to build a non-leaky shower pan out of tile. Not to mention I have already paid a man to build the shower, tear it out, rebuild it, have it leak again and then not return my phone calls for over a year. So now I am paying again to start from scratch. Okay now I will stop whining. Thanks for the advice. Happy Valentines Day all!

This is such a great thread!! I really like the idea of vertical subways and then accent glass tiles running vertically in the shower to simulate the waterfall (I saw metalic ones this way in a video on the HGTV site). I have a small city bathroom so not much room to play with. My mind in dancing around this idea but if I did that then the only 'wow' would be that one vertical stripe within the shower. (All four walls will be tiled since the moisture situation makes this the only real choice so that leaves painting the walls outside the shower not an option.) If I go the traditional horizontal subway tile route with an accent strip all around the whole bathroom then the 'wow' is everywhere but the overall looks isn't as modern as I'd like. I really like the modernness of the vertical layout but how can I incorporate the glass tiles elsewhere besides the one vertical stripe in the shower? Anyone have any creative ideas?

Two thoughts: -make very sure that one of the handrails is code compliant. -the safety of the person who needs two rails is of the utmost importance. So having them just "think" it will work is not enough. Shoulder height is very high to carry your arm, never mind try to exert the type of force that might be needed to safely support your body weight up and down stairs. And having your arms at uneven heights means that the possibility of damage or injury is much greater. If at all possible I would try to mimic the motion that will be needed, maybe by building a short length of rail at shoulder height out of 2x4s, with a parallel one at normal height next to it. Have the person try to step up on a step stool using this set-up as a brace. I suspect it will be very awkward.
