Pillows, Paint, and Decoration.. OH MY

YOu were all so informative on my last post, so I figured I would give it another go around. Many of you lit the fire for my making my built-ins window seats. It was always my plan to do so, but I have reservations right now due to my children's ages (and the significant drop from the window to the ground below).

That being sad, i can't stop thinking about window seat cushions and what I will do when that time comes (although my mother thinks the girls- ages 5 &7 are old enough now to "get it").

So what color/style would you suggest?

THese are the elements of the room:

We have this collection of pillows from RH in Silver Sage:

We have a brown leather sectional although we will be purchasing a micro-fiber sectional soon (color tbd- since despite the salesman at the times opinion, Leather is NOT best for small children and dog)- but most likely the sectional will be similar in color (choc. brown)

This is the room in question:

and the window seats (there is one on the other side of the FP as well).

OUr FR is part of our great room- Our kitchen is quite a distance away, but the perimeter countertops are absolute black granite, with cinnamon color cabs. the island is a color called typhon bordeaux with swirls of brown. black, taupe, cream, rusty/red/wine colors. we are having a travertine subway tile that looks beautiful with the island installed by the end of the month.

Any suggestions on

A- Wall color (both for FR and kitchen

B-Cushion color for window seats

C- Any other decorative tips you can offer.

Window seat cushions would look great in that space.
I am having window seat cushions made right now for my nursery and what we are doing is making it reversable so that we can have two choices for the cover. A solid on one side and a print on the other with a 4 inch cushion.

I'm horrible at paint colors so I'll stay away from that one, but I found a couple options for your window seat cushions (but I'd buy swatches and double check the color first).

I think it's the perfect place in the room to bring in a great pattern. Then you can bring in coordinating pillows that might be the same pillows you use on your couch that tie everything together. I really recommend something hard wearing because people often curl up on window seats and put their feet up there (and critters like them too). I've had great luck with microsuede and indoor/outdoor fabrics for the cushions and pillows on my kitchen banquette.

I'm enjoying everyone's comments about the house. Kmgc, I'm looking forward to this year's parade of homes in Dublin. Last year I thought the homes were terrible. Carole, I didn't notice the tiles in the shower. I think I'm going to go back tomorrow since the designers will be there from 6-8. "In the main entry foyer that had a two story staircase, they had 3-4 rows of paintings of different sizes. They all had gold frames and were sized and arranged so nice. I don't think they show a photo of that area." I immediately noticed the paintings too and I was bummed that there are no pictures of the foyer. I also immediately thought about the debate that would ensue here if the HD crowd saw the paintings as to whether they were hung too high/low/too many. LOL! I actually liked the way they did the foyer. I forgot to mention that my hubby did not like the house at all. He thought it should much more for 2.2 mil. What did you guys think of the art deco "away" room with the wallpaper on the ceiling? I thought it was too much and wasted space. I know the whole idea of a decorators showhouse is to feature individual design firms but I agree with everyone above that in the end, the whole look was disjointed and not something that I would want for myself. Finally, I'm looking forward to my first homearama in Cincinnati that is coming up soon.

Thank you all for your responses. We don't really have a neighborhood to drive around in. I live in the woods way off the main street. The closest neighbor has a gray house and I'm not so much into gray for the house. I would love to have functioning shutters on the largest of windows. I think I'll look into that seeing that we are now in hurricane season again. I really do want all the shutters to be functioning but I'll have to see what the cost is. I would love to find some really old shutters and have them refurbished. natel, your link sent me to an error page :-(. mimi, I do love your color combination. I think I'm going to the BM store tomorrow and check out different whites. I like the idea of 3 different white colors on the house. But then I think of the mildew and green mold I wash off twice a year...

WOW! I did not expect SOO many amazing suggestions! You all really helped me a ton and opened my mind to realize we definitely don't have to restrict ourselves to the current layout. Large Tree: Yaardvark made me laugh and made me realize that we definitely need to cut the lower limbs and that the shape of the tree is scary! :D Palms: They've already caused damage to our sewer (clay pipe) and I think they block the windows so we will be ripping them out and seeing if we can make some cash. Wrought Iron Gate: That is ours and I love the idea ptrecktel said about the wooden salt fence to give it that more mid-century modern vibe. Brick: I'm not 100% sure yet, I really liked the ideas from Beth H. about painting it either dark or white. House Color: I like the idea of doing white stucco with a black trim and black pots and lights with succulents and bright decor Door: I love the idea of going with a more colorful door or a door with dark wood. Also, we will definitely be updating the porch light. Walkway: I LOVE the large cement walkway from groveraxle! The brick in that area is already crumbling so creating a whole new walkway might be the best idea. Thank you all soo soo much and I can't wait to post in about a year or two (HA!) what we end up with! :)

We're in the process of doing some minor updates to our guest bath. I have no idea what to do in terms of vanity + wall color or vanity light fixture style/finish. Our new cross handle 8 in widespread faucet is an ORB that leans more to black. Target french country mirror is wood. Am hoping to accomplish a transitional glam aesthetic with a hint of rustic appeal here. Shower curtains and decor will be refreshed accordingly. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated!

wow.. some of those will look great and thanks for the heads up on using indoor/outdoor fabric. NEVER would have thought of that! Any suggestions for wall paint color?

I'm not a designer... but that won't stop me. LOL

I love your toss cushions. I'm doing similar colours in my living room. I would choose your paint colour from the cushions, either the palest silver blue or if you prefer a warmer colour, the palest taupe.

For the window seat I would draw attention to it by using a patterned fabric similar to that paisley in the cushion collection, but maybe with another bolder, contrasting colour -- like a red? -- in it, also, or simply add some contrasting cushions. You could get another set of those cushions for the window seat and just add some solid red ones to the collection. Consider a warm shade of red or a burnt orange to pick up the warm tones of your hardwood.

Thanks for the suggestions prairie-- that is definitely something to consider. I always forget about using pops of color.. I always end up doing matchy match.

Sadly, that painting is NOT mine. I WANT it.. but it is above my budget at the moment. I have been drooling over it though b/c it is the perfect piece to go over my dry bar which is on the wal that connects the kitchen/eating area to FR..
