What would you do to change this room?? (pic included)
Comments (28)Very cute room. I found this forum very recently and love reading all the posts, so I will finally stop lurking and add my 2 cents. I know others have talked about the frames, but I don't think there are necessarily too many, I think part of what bothered me with the frames on the shelves was simply placement. The way they were arranged it is too symmetrical for my taste. I like to see more staggering of items. I currently feel there is a visual line drawn through the center of the shelves vertically. Also understanding the constraints of a budget all too well-- if the new mantel is too expensive for right now what if you remove the small white shelf below the mirror and paint out the top part of the fireplace surround, not sure how to refer to that part, but the area that creates a horizontal edge directly below that white shelf. I persoally like the green vase, but only if it is empty so it has a more contemporary "pottery" like feel to it. I think if you want a "vase" it is not the best. I like it empty off to the left of the mirror, but if you remove the shelf and do not add a mantel I assume the vase will not sit on that edge? I would definitely raise the curtain rod several inches to give the illusion of a more dramatic window. I was also wondering about switching the sofa to the wall below the window--does it fit? I just think it will soften the bottom of that window to have the sofa there, just move the chair to where the sofa was. I would think that it would be more comfortable to watch tv that way as well as you wouldn't be turned at the direct 90 degree angle you are currenty when seated on the sofa. I would then like to see a small table of some sort between the chair and the fireplace wall (under the wall opening) and then move the floor lamp over to the side of the chair closest to the kitchen. (so that pass through side would start with the lamp, then the chair, then a table. ) The table would be a great spot for a few more of those family photos. OK those are my thoughts, but keep in mind I always move my furniture 16 times before I decide what I like....See MorePlease help my decorate the top of my bookcase (pics included)
Comments (32)nancybee_2010: As in most of my decorating projects, I had it 98% complete, but your question gave me the nudge to finish the remaining 2%. I had tried out and returned several pots before settling on just the right one and transplated my other plant in it. I also decided to keep the old photos in my bedroom since I liked them there and bought a new frame that coordinated better with my candlesticks. That 2% remaining was to pick the photo to put in the frame--finally I decided to put last year's Christmas family photo there as I felt the sepia photos didn't look so good in the gold frame, though if others think sepia is better I can scan and tweak this photo for a sepia version. I should probably still tweak the bookcase some more, but it works for what I need it to do which is store books and photo albums. The photo albums don't fit on the lower shelves so I'm stumped how to change it without just storing the photo albums in a closet and then they are not out for people to see. As for the dining room, I did keep the red vase. I love how the light reflects in it. I may add some more vases at some point when the bulb actually dies, but so far it's hanging in there. cliff_and_joann: Thanks for the compliments and feedback. As you see above I did swap out the green vase. Your home is an inspiration to me--esp. your tablescapes. I've been following your DR chairs makeover with interest and can't wait to see the results! On another note, I recently got a new camera and am very excited that I am finally able to take pictures of window shots without the background getting washed out!...See MoreHow do you decorate your corner walls?
Comments (16)You obviously have good taste, I love the other side of the room sooo find a print or work of art that would look great on the wall to the left of the tv when you stand in front of it. I'd get a standing lamp that has black or brown base with a shade that is opaque, a gold or dark brown one would look super. Since you love the lime green as I see in the accents, you could find a plant that is at least four feet and put it to the right of the lamp or a shorter one on a low stool. Greens make a room look so warm and inviting....See MoreHow to handle wall decor in this space (pic)
Comments (17)Another vote to try the buffet under the window -- it appears to be the "natural" spot for it -- and it won't block too much light. OR: Leave it on the right hand side -- and do hang your larger artwork beind the table -- and then hang two or three (depending on size) smaller matching or co-ordinating artworks vertically over the buffet. You may have to hang the smaller ones FIRST -- and then stand back and judge where to place the larger artwork so that it connects to the table AND the newer artworks. Another idea would be to add two or three dark shelves (look for substantial chunky ones!!) over the buffet -- and add plates (matching ones or co-ordinating ones) THEN hang your larger artwork -- and both areas would work!
