I have a mudroom/laundry. office and pantry combination. No cubbies as there are no children in the home. Kitchen on one end, garage entrance on others. We have hooks just outside in garage for wet clothes and a shoe rack also. Desk side. Coat closet, desk area. Cabinets above house vases, holiday glassware, cookbooks, and one with batteries, flashlights and misc. File drawers and desk drawer. The big one on the far end holds large bag of dog food and other dog items. Not in picture but located left of coat closet is my drying closet for drying sweaters and things that don't go in the dryer. Louvered doors and there is wiring for a heater/fan combo but we didn't put it in. The heated floors seem to do the job nicely. Sink W/D side. on the far end left is floor to ceiling pantry with slideout drawers inside.Next upper cabinet holds misc kitchen gadgets that are not used to often. Other side of sink upper has detergent and other laundry needs as well as cleaning supplies. Small cabinet up above that holds some tall vases. Then comes stacked W/D with a small cabinet above that has kerosene lamps and other seldom used items. Below counter left of sink drawers with candles and other small holiday deco in top drawer, second drawer down is husbands snack drawer, 3rd drawer has some kitchen pans and other weird shaped things in it. Second set of drawers has tablecloths and placemats in top drawer, extra plastic wrap, paper towels etc in 2nd drawer, various small kitchen appliances in bottom drawer. Cleaning supplies under sink. Next top drawer and second drawer holds small household tools and other such items. Next top drawer has paper goods and misc. Two bottom drawers just misc stuff.

And don't think that the better part of wisdom is the only way to do it either! Mine aren't painted because when I saw the plywood I decided it was too pretty to paint (how to make a cabinet maker happy? Love wood!). They are also floor to ceiling because I don't really have a laundry room. It's a laundry walk-in closet off the kitchen (that's the doorjam on the far left). No one's idea of a workspace. I take the towels to the LR sofa for folding and everything else straight upstairs. You asked for pictures, and I forgot I had one. On the cabinet side of the previous version of the same room was about a foot of open space with a small, wall hung cabinet from Home Depot or something. The other side of that wall was a pretty useless walk-in pantry. I turned that inside out, so have Butler's pantry storage in the passage to the dining room, a big, double pantry in the kitchen, and these cupboards in the laundy. There's a cupboard over the dryer (to the right, outside of the picture) for actual laundry supplies. The washer goes right next to the sink.

Well, I'd still be interested in your thoughts but I talked to the wife and we decided I'm going to build a small thin stick built wall (with sheet rock AND paint) and mount it on hinges dead center of that current laundry room. Then I'll build in two separate louver doors. So all you gotta do is Take the pantry shelfs out and unlock the "door or wall on hinges" and swing it to the right and you have full access to the back of the washer and dryer. I just got to figure out the best way to Light the pantry. A ceiling mounted light for the pantry will provide little light for the bottom shelves (and interfere with operation of wall-on-hinges)......so maybe a 4' single tube light on either side of the door hooked up to the closet light switch would be the way to go.... In addition I need to turn one pull chain ceiling light into two.....

Most of the time it will be just 2-3 adults with visits from kids and grandkids. Gear will be winter jackets and boots to flip-flops as we experience all 4 seasons. This will be the only real pantry in the house where extra or large pots/pans are planned to be kept, costco-sized food packs, small appliances, toilet paper, small fridge, etc. Laundry room needs to have air drying solution for clothes as well as a wash basin and even some sort of ironing area. Am I asking too much for the amount of space that I have? lol. :-)
