Best Size for a Mudroom, Laundry Room, Pantry??
Comments (22)I have a mudroom/laundry. office and pantry combination. No cubbies as there are no children in the home. Kitchen on one end, garage entrance on others. We have hooks just outside in garage for wet clothes and a shoe rack also. Desk side. Coat closet, desk area. Cabinets above house vases, holiday glassware, cookbooks, and one with batteries, flashlights and misc. File drawers and desk drawer. The big one on the far end holds large bag of dog food and other dog items. Not in picture but located left of coat closet is my drying closet for drying sweaters and things that don't go in the dryer. Louvered doors and there is wiring for a heater/fan combo but we didn't put it in. The heated floors seem to do the job nicely. Sink W/D side. on the far end left is floor to ceiling pantry with slideout drawers inside.Next upper cabinet holds misc kitchen gadgets that are not used to often. Other side of sink upper has detergent and other laundry needs as well as cleaning supplies. Small cabinet up above that holds some tall vases. Then comes stacked W/D with a small cabinet above that has kerosene lamps and other seldom used items. Below counter left of sink drawers with candles and other small holiday deco in top drawer, second drawer down is husbands snack drawer, 3rd drawer has some kitchen pans and other weird shaped things in it. Second set of drawers has tablecloths and placemats in top drawer, extra plastic wrap, paper towels etc in 2nd drawer, various small kitchen appliances in bottom drawer. Cleaning supplies under sink. Next top drawer and second drawer holds small household tools and other such items. Next top drawer has paper goods and misc. Two bottom drawers just misc stuff....See MoreThe Pantry/Laundry Room
Comments (7)what a great kid! it sounds like you hit your limit--I think during decluttering, we all hit a point at which we get scared; we feel like we're letting go of too much, it starts to feel out-of-control, we fear we'll have regrets, we start to feel guilty (at rejecting the stuff and at having hung onto it at all). That's when it's time to stop (or, push on just a little bit, but stop). If we go beyond our "scare point," I think we can discourage ourselves from doing it again. Bcs you stopped where you did, you can have ONLY great results. Then, when you get brave enough to go through the recipes, in the next session, you can bring into it the great feelings and have them empower you. If you were bringing in regrets and guilt, you might not be as powerful the next time. So pick a date to do those recipes; you'll surprise yourself at how many of them you don't really need. (just don't do it at a time when you're hungry, LOL!)...See MoreRedesign of Pantry /laundry room

Comments (10)I'd want it to stay separate. What is that window in the laundry facing? Would it be possible to have a door on that wall? I'd put a door across from the pocket door and put the washer dryer to the longest exterior wall. Then you could probably fit a sink in there somewhere. If you move the doors more to the center then you have space for a whole wall of cabinets on the interior wall. You could do a tall cabinet for cleaning supplies, brooms, etc. Then have a folding counter if you like. I'd move the pocket door from kitchen into the pantry up as much as you can. As it is now, you don't have anywhere for a lightswitch in the pantry or the laundry. If you add a 36" exterior door from the laundry then you can have the pocket doors be 30". I'd use the wall inside the pantry to hang aprons or have a shelf for cookbooks or even wine. Also, think about how you will use the pantry. A sink is good if you will actually work in there, but if not then a sink in the laundry is better. You can use that sink for messy stuff. I use the sink in my laundry to wash dogs, arrange flowers, clean bird feeders, wash up from crafty stuff, clean the grill grates, etc....See Moregillylily
