HomeCrest Cabinets vs Shiloh Cabinets
Comments (17)No, the drawers are not peeling inside. We have HomeCrest throughout the whole house. We also have them in the basement bathroom and have a kitchenette down there. A few months after installation, some of the kitchen drawers needed adjustments. It was done very quickly. My husband just pointed out that one of the 36" drawers is off a little bit, but I had not noticed it myself. The drawer holds pots and pans; so the weight probably caused a little bit of settling. We did not buy the cabinets directly from the factory. We used a small local cabinet company as the go between; so I cannot say how working with the factory is. I don't know if you can even buy factory direct or not. One mistake I made was having a corner sink because that was how the builder designed the kitchen. That row of cabinets is L shaped and there is a lot of wasted space in that 90 degree angle. In order to use it, I would have to literally crawl under the sink to reach things back there. All in all, we are happy with all of the cabinets. I do wish I had more. Seems there is never enough space in cabinets or closets after you're in a house for a few years. Good luck with your cabinet hunting....See MoreChange of Plans with Cabinet line. Kahle vs Shiloh. No Medallion UGH
Comments (1)Just wanted to pipe in and say I have Kahle oak cabinets c. 1997 and they have worn like iron. No problems with the finish. No malfunctions of slides, no blown out hinges - everything still works like the day they were installed. Now, ours were their opening grade so no high end slides or hinges, but they work great, smooth, and have lasted under family use all these years with no apparent aging! We got ply boxes, melamine coated interiors (I preferred these for wipe-downs), real oak veneer end surfaces. (Never get the non-wood veneer, as it ages and discolors at a different rate than your natural wood will so will look awful in a few years relative to the real wood surfaces.) Whatever finish they used back then on stained wood was very robust. One great thing about them is they make the SAME things, decades later. I went to a showroom to inquire about a replacement door (2013) and could special order the exact door I needed because they use classic profiles. They were a great value for the pricepoint....See MoreCabinet help! Shiloh vs Aspect
Comments (2)There was an extensive thread a few weeks ago on GW concerning the differences in the two lines; I learned a lot since the brands are not common in my part of the U.S. Several KDs shared their insights. I was impressed enough to recommend that my son in TN look into the Aspect line considering his budget constraints. http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2815727/cabinets-and-remodeling...See Morethoughts about Grabill and/ or Superior Woodcraft kitchen cabinets
Comments (3)there's Graber cabs and Grabill - both in Grabill IN. I think I read something sometime back about a break off of the bz yrs back - like maybe a son setting up his shop (or a sil or nephew). I did see what looks like a law suit but it said 'Grabill vs so and so' - so sounds more like they had to sue someone for payment maybe. Nothing would come up about it tho. You could call the IN state registrar of contractors and ask if any complaints on them (both). Grabill is a tiny little country town - near/next (who knows by now? It's been 30 yrs) to Leo IN. My gsons go to school in Leo. It's north of Ft Wayne and south (to se) of Auburn IN. Lots of Amish craftsmen in that area. It's a beautiful area to live in - with Cedar Creek winding thru it. I used to live west of Grabill/Leo. My mechanic lived/worked in Leo (Shell station) so I went there a few times a yr. It's hard for me to imagine that there'd be need to complain about them - that something would be wrong and they wouldn't make it right....See Morekompy
