I've suggested Behr Grass Cloth many times because it's a color in that Apple Green Family that is easy to live with and not in your face bright. When on the wall it looks very similar to the color in your inspiration photo and I get compliments on that color all the time.

I don't know what the match for it in BM or Valspar would be but don't forget you can have anything color matched so your options are really unlimited.

I think the green we used in our ds' room was a BM with asparagus in the name? It may have been an Ace brand instead as I bought it a few years ago. It is a perfect boy color green and looks great with white trim. If you pair it with navy, you can make everyone happy. Our 2 ds' share a room so I did 2 opposite walls in this and 2 in a deep purple (think Buzz Lightyear colors). One boy liked green and the other like purple. The older one now wants blue, so I will repaint over the purple....someday.... It would be easier to do adjacent walls because of fewer color changes in corners, but it looks so nice this way....

If you like the Apple Green, and he apparently does, what would happen to it if you had it mixed half strength say? Would that change it too much?

I'm curious about this, because I'd like to do some fainter colors. I like green enough, but I have to get over the "institutional" feel of some shades, which remind me of restrooms beneath stadiums with the smell of Pinesol and wet floors. Fifty years later, THAT one still clings to green.

I should add that BM's Wales Green is a lighter perkier green than the Apple Green. We used it in a lot of our main rooms and it is cheerful and not too dark.

I think BM Pear Green might be worthwhile looking at.

I would give him the green he loves. My DS was about that age (maybe 4 or 5 though) when he picked a similar green for his room. I bit my tongue and painted. He kept it until he was a teenager. It was a wonderful room. When he was little, I had Marimeko BoBoo bedding and it will always be my favorite room in any house at any time. He loved it, too, and it was perfect for a wee boy. We changed the bedding when he was about 9 years old to something more "grown-up" and I donated his quilts. I still have one of the pillowcases-for sentimental reasons. I wouldn't push him to grow up too fast-save the map theme for when he gets to second or third grade.

Ok...I think I've made a decision - sort of.

I didn't want to do the entire room in green and considered the turquoise as in the inspiration photo but the family room just a short hop away is already in 2 tones of turquoise (BM Blue Seafoam & Opal Essence).

I love the idea that dianalo gave: green and navy. We have a lot of NY Yankees collectibles so wasn't quite sure how I was going to feature all that against apple green walls. I'm going to do 3 walls in a green and 1 wall in navy.

Of course, I haven't decided on a green yet (may try it at 1/2 strength - will have to ask the guys at BM) nor a blue. I have a sample of BM Midnight Navy but I think it's just too dark for his room. He really loves that apple green so I may just bite my tongue & paint as you did, cyn. :)

BTW - he was thrilled when I showed him the map photo this morning when he woke up. He ran into the master bedroom & I heard him yell, "Daddy! Wake up! I'm going to have a green room with a big map!". He was not this enthusiastic when I showed him this lovely sports-themed room:

So, green it is. Thank you for the link to the "Shrek green" thread - enjoyed reading it & of course, it gave me other colors to look at this week.

Having the bright green isn't all bad and can be quite fun. Since I work from home, I decided to go bright and happy in my office. This is Behr Honeydew and Rhapsody Blue, it's an old picture from when we were still working in there but you get the gist.

I used Kelly Moore Halls of Ivy in my son's bedroom.

I think the apple green with one blue wall and the map he loves will be perfect and a very happy room! Sometimes joy needs to be the deciding factor. :)
