I am banning any kind of cleaning agent that I do not want anywhere near my new granite or cabinets...I have already lived with a ruined porcelain sink due to an idiot using an SOS pad on it!

I threw away a few metal 9x11 baking pans that had reached beyond embarrassing, and gave away an ugly wooden paper towel holder (it was left in the house when I moved in, so I did not feel too wasteful buying a new one after 5 years) and a few plastic mixing bowls that I bought in college. But I'm pretty frugal about such things, so I never considered new dishes, etc.

New:
toaster (instead of toaster oven)
stainless cookware (to replace pitted ScanPans)
bakeware (old ones were warped or badly scratched)
spices (just discovered Penzeys!) and spice jars (from Specialty Bottle)
Keurig coffee machine that uses K-cup individual servings
Breville blender, KitchenAid food processor, & KitchenAid hand mixer (to replace built-in Nutone food center at the old house)
Cutting boards, color-coded for raw meat, raw poultry, cooked meat, veggies, bread & cheese, plus rack

Tossed storage containers & lids that didn't match.

When we packed the kitchen for our move, I put all utensils in a big storage container, and took an item out as we needed to use it. We've been in our new home for a year now, so I donated whatever was still in the container to our son's troop garage sale.

We've kept our dishes, glasses, & stemware. I'd love to find new flatware, as we no longer have enough for large gatherings.

I had a cute red coffee maker, but it doesn't match the new kitchen, so I got it's twin, but in black.

Threw out all of our food storage containers too. I had a zillion of them, and never could find a matching lid to any of them.

There's much more - but the best was getting rid of all the old pots and pans. We now have new "Rachel Ray" pots & pans with the orange handles. LOVE THEM!

When we packed before the demo I ended up donating almost EVERTHING! The only thing we are keeping are the plates and serving pieces and our allclad cookware! Now I'm slowly buying new (its so much fun!!) in anticipation it being done soon...I HOPE!! :o)

Well, I haven't really unpacked my kitchen stuff since I moved into this house nearly 3 years ago. There was no kitchen to speak of, so I have just coped with a microwave, hotplate, and a couple pots/plates/cups etc.

But in anticipation of kitchen completion, I have dropped well over $500 on Amazon and Penzeys in the last couple weeks, on new cast iron cookware and lots of kitchen trinkets. I already have nice knives, but I need to get them sharpened.

Now all I need is a contractor to finish the kitchen. Current contractor is still stewing in jail. He has a court date next Tuesday though ... wonder what will happen ?

I can't help myself though. Next on the list is new dinnerware, probably from Crate and Barrel ...

ah, bleach. No more bleach. A couple drops splashed on one of my French copper pans and bleach is now banned.

Don't have a new kitchen yet but once I do...

I threatened my family that they will need a pass to enter the new kitchen (if I ever have one) and they all clapped and cheered....

I'm hiding the Windex bottle that my DH is for sure to use on our new kitchen table, faucets and granite, and will surely be getting rid of the few old Revereware pots from the early 80's and replacing them will something to match the other Belgique pots I have. I already got rid of (recycled) tons of plastic containers that used to multiply in the dark recesses of my old lazy susan, and lots of mismatched coffee mugs. I'm in the mid-remodel phase, so I can't go shopping since my budget and the house are in so much chaos lately. Oh, one more thing... I will still try to enforce my old, weak ban on DH and the kids not wearing gritty, dirty sneakers in the house, especially now we have the new wood floors (good luck to me! :)

Lots of stuff still in the basement - so as I use the kitchen I will know what I REALLY need and throw out the rest. Got all new (matching) pots - first time EVER in 45 years.

When we were packing to move I got rid of anything that wasn't used in the last year plus anything that was a duplicate but not necessary (like I need many bread pans but not many collanders) We had a yard sale and then donated the rest.

Now I have no real kitchen and I've just been bringing up what I need from the boxes in the basement as I need them. I suspect when I unpack I'll get rid of more stuff.

Funny, I really like my three generations of cookware, including beat-up mostly-basic-back-then stuff mixed with my own AllClad and so on. It really illustrates cultural differences between our days, those of Grandma who struggled to bring her family through the Depression and never got over it, and my mother-in-law, who had lots of expensive elegant tableware but was definitely never told what I paid for utilitarian kitchen stuff. It all stays.

Banned is everything from the counters, except toaster and coffeemaker, which have their own niche on the opposite wall. Decorative items go on the walls--pretty and out of the way.

Kenmore and GE Profile--the appliances that needed to be fixed over and over and over and over and still never worked right.

~ We replaced our tired, old coffee maker with a new one. We needed to get a new one anyway, but waited until we'd moved into our new kitchen to make it even more special.
~ replaced the bar stools with gorgeous new ones that work with the cherry cabs; the old ones were metal and could have easily scratched the new cabs. The old ones are now on the back portal out by the grill area.
~ With our new double pull-out trash, our old (free-standing) trash cans are now in the garage until DS takes them to his new house in August.
~ I refuse to bring back in about 70% of my Tupperware. I've found I can easily make do with the 30% left and I love how uncluttered my cabs are now. I've been madly giving the rest away to DS, his girlfriend, his guy friends, my friends . . . anybody around here who'll take it ;^P

Raynag, those are exactly our cleaning supplies. We haven't needed anything else since moving back in--almost 3 years ago.

We only moved things back into the kitchen as we needed them. Which means most of the stuff is still stored away (but will come in handy because dd will move into her first college apt next year.)

Things I replaced during the remodel in anticipation:
1. glasses. We'd never had matching ones before.
2. silverware--also never had a real set before, just mismatched pieces picked up at tag sales.
3. spices were freshened as needed.

I had thought I would replace a lot more than I did. But it turns out, I really enjoyed moving some of the old tired items back into the sparkly new kitchen---they felt like old friends (like our old burnt up tea kettle--the brand new one is still sitting in a box.)

Other items had been on their last legs and have been replaced over the last couple of years as needed--our toaster oven (a sad day because I loved our old one and it's no longer made) and blender (love the new Breville.)

Pots and pans: I've had our cast iron fry pans for over 20 years--best value ever. Every so often, over the past decade or so, I've replace an old pot with an all clad piece. I now have a mixture of all clad, reverware, and faberware---the old stuff is fine for most of the cooking.

Clutter! In my kitchen's new life I now have ro-o-o-o-m to store everything out of sight, and I do. I put an outlet in the pantry, so even the toaster and toaster oven are off the counters. I just have my coffee maker, a bowl of fruit and my knife holder on the counters.

I'm working on training my husband not to bring mail into the kitchen. (He doesn't ever put things away -- he just puts them, if you know what I mean. In our renovation we added an office at the front of the house; it was my intent that, with a room full of built-in cabinets and drawers, the endless paper trail wouldn't have to follow us into the rest of the house. Ah, but you know what they say about leading a horse to water...

We have just packed up and moved downstairs. We got rid of our dishes. Out of a set of 8 place settings, I had 6 dinner plates, 2 lunch plates, and 4 bowls left.

Got rid of our glasses. We didn't have anything that matched. I also got rid of the vast majority of the plastic cups for the kids. At ages 10 and 12, they are needing bigger glasses for water.

Got rid of gadgets that have been collected but not used.

Got rid of all those silly plastic margerine containers that I swore I would use but never did.

I hope never to see clutter back in the kitchen, although I'm not sure how realistic that is.

All the electrical outlets that don't hold onto a plug anymore will be GONE. I'm so excited about that! We'll actually be able to plug something in, and it will stay plugged in. How cool is that?

When we asked the kids what they wanted in this kitchen remodel, the only thing they asked for was a toaster that actually toasted properly. We have an ancient inherited toaster oven that has never worked worth beans. We'll buy the boys a new toaster.

Sadly, our coffee maker died 5 days before demo. So, we have our new coffee maker now before moving into the new kitchen. Oh well.

How could I have forgotten the mail? NO mail. My kitchen is no longer an oversized To-Do basket.

Absolutely, positively, ANYTHING that my ex husband brought to the marriage and ended up with me ("Ex Got Lexus, I Got House"). It all dates to the Reagan years, he had appalling taste, and do I need to explain the 3d reason?

Still working on this one, but CLUTTER! I am getting rid of those plastic storage things too. I started using glass or ceramic before kt redo, so I did have a head start on that. I would love to get everything off the counter except the coffee machine. But I got tired of getting the toaster out everytime I wanted to use it, so it stays. I may get a new one though. The other things I had to keep on the counter - KA food processor and Foodsaver. it's black and stainless so it's not too bad. I was able to rearrange where I put stuff so I didn't have to give up much.
