Dishwasher: high-end Bosch or entry-level Miele?
Comments (12)With my Miele Dimension Plus that I've had for 4 years, we purchased the warranty directly for Miele for $250 for 5 years. This is the only way to know for sure that Miele tech comes out. We've had them out here twice. The first time was a year after we had the unit, the overflow protection sensor was tripped in the lower pan. It turned out that one of the newer detergents was making too much suds. Then a couple months ago I noticed that the coating on some of the racks were chiped away and there was some rust. So I called Miele and told them, they sent up an appointment and the following week a tech came out and installed the racks. I could have done that myself if they would of just mailed it to me from the warehouse in NJ, but they said it had it be done by the tech under warranty. Next April the warranty ends. I just hope the unit stays working OK after that, since it was about $2200 when we purchased it. About the sound. Mine is a Q2. I did see a working La Perla that was a Q5 and it was slightly quieter. But the more dishes, pots, pans, etc that is in the unit, the less you will hear the water spraying around....See MoreKitchen Renovation & out of level floors
Comments (10)I have to agree with the other comments - 3/4" over 12 feet isn't much - I wish I had that problem :-). My situation is more like Lil_geek - mine is also around 3" over 6' (house was build in 1895). It's funny when you look at our power room - there's a good 1" difference just over the doorway. For our kitchen reno (currently ongoing . Our contractor stripped everything down to the planks, added a new subfloor on top, then also used a leveling compound (I also had high and low spots). After that, there was an awful lot of shimming. You can't tell unless you stand far back and look at the toe-kicks - they're shorter on one side than the other. I'm also short (4'11"), so I'm happy that the cabinets aren't any taller. Actually, what's funny is that the new floor looks good, but you can feel some of the dips when you walk across it (and it's a small kitchen). With the old floor, you could visibly see the bumpiness....See MoreCost of dormer vs adding level(s)
Comments (4)Anytime you touch the roof it's expensive. If you do decide to spend the money you likely will never see it back. Changing a house to fit your needs is always more expensive than finding a house that already meets then, even if it means spending a bit more or looking a little longer....See MoreMost cost effective one level floor plan to build rectangle or L shape
Comments (8)So I love long low MCM ranch style homes. We have on it is 75 25 ‘ on the main floor we are on a sloped lot so we have a full walkout basement . IMO a very affordable way to build good square footage and we also have a fabulous view and so all the main living areas face the view and the bedooms to some extent too. I find vaulted ceilings a waste of heating and cooling my ceilings are typical 8’ ones that I love actually. I do not like attached garages but we could add one to our house but with great difficulty so our garage is further back and separate we live in BC and yes sometimes we need to carry groceries in the winter but not a big deal.We get very hot here in the summer low 90 to low 100s we have a huge overhang on the south side of the house that faces the view it stops the sun from beating in the windows in the summer but allows itin to heat in the winter .Our home is definately not rustic but the overhang is just areally practical thing and could cerstainly be a covered porch I guess but I love natural light in my house so no covered porch for me....See Morecblanco75
