And, the t'cloth in this pic is "kitty-cornered"...whatever the terminology...each point pointed toward a chair...I do like it alot. I'm a "snowman" addict, too...many yrs now...these new TS plates still had K's Merchandise labels on back so I plan to use them for gifts. jaybird...thanks...I like the rustic of the sugar molds...I bought mine in a specialty store so it's probably not old...you may have an original...either way, they're kind of expensive...but I use it usually all yr round (somewhere). I bet you don't need a fireplace often! frou...those Woodfield plates come in other colors, too...will be on the lookout altho I did put a bid on ebay for 6 more plates (no cups) so they started the bid low...we shall see. Yup, the vase goes good with my Autumn Leaf dishes & I thought it would be a good Christmas color, too. dream...SG leaves from "Tenderhearts"...probably about 10 yrs. ago or so...don't see them in their catalog now...so far I've kept from breaking them! punk...that vase with the prairie grass is a "pinkish" color...but blends in with the salmon ...I bought it at an antique store so don't really know if it was old...loved the color & shape & the $$$ was right! LOL! Ahhh, we'll see how the clear glassware Fall decor works out & the darn ol' branches for the urn! Jane,,, still am having fun with it all! (but I know what you mean)! My3dogs, thank you, thank you, for all your help so far! The fabric's been ordered, corbels located and repainted, (I had some from another room that I took down last year), and paint samples went are on the walls waiting for daylight to show their true color! Everyone's advice gave me just the inspiration I needed, now all I need is the right color for the paint. Sadly, BM's Rich Cream didn't work, it came out too peachy cream in our light, so I'm struggling with other yellow tones to find something, because I do want a true yellow tint to really highlight the flo blue. BM Yellow Lotus may be too strong - but I did like it enough to try that, along with Butter. Your valence instructions look great, and just so simple - yet they have such a lovely effect on the windows! You're so clever! I can't wait for the fabric order to get here, I ordered the coordinating Waverly stripe to recover the chair cushions, too. This will be sew fun!!! Heidi

This is becoming a problem more and more...that's why we often recommend 15" deep wall cabinets! The other place that is potentially a problem is counter/bar seating...does your sister have a raised bar that's only 12 to 14 inches deep? If so, her plates will just barely fit on it. Ditto if she has a cooktop/range or sink in an island or peninsula w/only 12 - 14" behind it for seating (counter-height or bar-height). If she has either of the above, then she probably should "...Find new plates...." However, if she doesn't then I agree she should consider putting them in drawers...assuming, of course, that she has drawers other than those small top drawers. I'm not a fan of open shelving so I don't recommend that unless she'll be using all the plates frequently (or she likes dusting/cleaning!) If drawers won't work & she cannot find replacement plates, then I would price out what it would cost to: make a couple of replacement cabinets + take out the current ones & crown molding + install the new cabinets + re-install crown molding (will be a little trickier unless all the cabinets are the same depth). Does her DH know that if she gets new plates most likely she'll need new bowls, salad/dessert plates, etc.? Still, the new cabinets will probably cost more, but if she plans to stay in the house for a long time, then I recommend they consider fixing the problem rather than putting a "band aid" on it. (Has she tried to put her platters away yet?)
