Another IFFI bites the dust (pic)

Finally finished and off the table. It still gets some beading but that won't show in the photo anyway so will post this now before I forget. Dark green is hand dyed but didn't have enough for the binding. I know it should have Xmas colors on the border but wanted to hang it other times of the year. Maybe next one will have more red. I's about 5' square.

Hello, Imontestella! Yes, I knew this was an old thread. I brought it back! lol It is an EA plant and i have not changed the soil. I purchased it back in August i believe. I think i last watered about a month ago. I will probably water it this weekend. I know that the 8 inch pots of EA hoyas (lacunosa, polyneura, and nummulariores) can got 5-6 weeks without watering in the winter time from my own experience. I had brought 2 DS-70's in 6 inch pots and one has lost all but one vine. The other one is doing great. I just dont want to water it too soon and have it sit there rotting. The pot is getting pretty light.

Thanks, Holiday-ers, I'm glad you enjoyed the view from my LR window...appreciate your gracious comments. jane...the fruit feeder has top & bottom (as seen in pic) w/hole cut out for clear glass custard cup size (so you can see when the jelly is gone!) Plus an archway between the top & bottom for spacing...rope for hanger & 2 screws from the bottom up for the orange halves. Orioles love it...also we get Catbirds who enjoy it. Squirrels do attack (sometimes)...but fruit feeder is on Shepherd's hook & they don't seem to bother it much...we tap on the windows ALOT! & send our dog out the front door often, too! LOL! Ahhh, dust bunnies are certainly multiplying around here...but it's ok...got to be out on the nice days! And I've been enjoying the bunny tureens on the forum lately, too! Thanks, everyone! This quilt is about 32" wide and 36" long. It's embroidery, using 12wt sulky thread on a spool instead of embroidery floss. Much easier to work with and leaves a nice, clear line. It didn't free up nearly enough pins so will scramble around today and see what else I have. I suppose I could buy more but I'm thrifty.

Well, this is dropping and so it's time to take a moment and thank everyone for their feedback. I got a big kick out of everyone's comments. It's interesting to look at the photos through someone else's eyes (in a manner of speaking). I appreciate all the kind words and compliments. I can't wait to have our shelves in. Then the pendant and hood will both look better and less "stranded". I can also then get things put in their "right places" and get some additional color into the room with displays of my pottery collection (a growing thing). I really appreciate all the help BEFORE the big reveal. If I had been left to my own devices I would have had stools at the end of the stove run out in the way of the aisle. I would have missed out on soapstone. I would have never heard of NeverMT. I would have lower cabs instead of drawers and pull outs everywhere I could. I would have done uppers instead of open shelves. I never would have shopped around for cork flooring. I probably would not have heard of Schoolhouse Electric (this impacts my front and back porches and my carport as well). I would have never driven all the way across the state to get my Domsjo and Numerar from IKEA. I would not have ZONES. I would never have dared to sink my fridge in the wall so it was flush with the counters. I would undoubtedly have a 4x4 square backsplash (but I hear those are coming back "in"). :) I have learned a ton here. I have seen a lot of really cool ideas. I will have some more of them before I am done. I will have a charging station and a pet center in my back entry way if it kills me. This forum is filled with great people. While we don't ALWAYS get along, who does? I don't get along with my family all the time. I don't see eye to eye with my coworkers all the time. This community has been very helpful and welcoming. That is stunning work! Did you work from a pattern? It's a lovely design.

I've never done bias tape applique. Is it hard to get such crisp flowing lines? Did you use bias bars? I don't see the slightest variation in your figures or the width of your lines. Most impressive!

You could make a nice showy red bow and pin it on from the back for the Christmas season and then remove it for display the rest of the year.

That's going to be such a showpiece for St. Patrick's Day.

Did you quilt the background and then apply the bias design by hand? Or do you do the applique and then quilt the whole piece?

Just curious if you were able to enhance the wreath concept by the quilting.

BTW, it still takes my breath away a day later. You are one lucky girl to have that to enjoy from now to forever. You must be bursting with pride.

Linda, That is really beautiful! Did I read that correctly that the inside is about 5" square??? If so, that is one tiny piece of applique! Nice work, my friend!

I haven't been able to log in for awhile - I'm not ignoring the questions.

Rosa - technique is bias strips sewed onto a background in any shape or arrangement a person wants. Not hard to do.

Rainey - I picked parts of patterns from Celtic designs in a book and made a basic rectangular design. Then I "morphed" one end narrower to made sides tapered. I cut this pattern out of template plastic and marked each motif onto a white background, one at a time.

I didn't use bias bars. I cut 3/4" strips on bias and pulled them through a Clover bias tape maker, ironing as it comes out the other end, to make a 3/8" strip. Remember you cross over and under in spots so it is easy to hide an end and start a new piece of bias.

Jayne - it's appliqued down by hand. One motif takes one evening in front of the TV.

Sue - that's 5 feet across whole quilt, not 5 inches.

So, it's really quite easy. Take a motif you like, taper it in to make it wedge shaped, make a bunch of zerox copies of the motifs and lay them out in wreath shape. When you get the diameter that makes them all fit the way you like, measure distance from center to edge of motif. Then you press or mark center lines, maybe 45 degree lines, whatever locators you need and mark your motifs with a water soluble marker putting motif centerline on pressed lines and inside edge at your specified diameter. Mine are 8-1/2" from center of background to center of motif inside edge.
