Have you ever seen an antique chair like this one on my CL?

I'm fascinated by it, but haven't a clue as to what it would have looked like originally.

If you know anything about what style this is called or have ever seen one that is 'finished', could you post a link or photo, or describe it? The seller has the springs he took out. He found it moldering in an old Maine barn, and brought it home and stripped it down to what you see in the ad.

Looks like a "dressed up" version of the one I picked up off of the curb. Mine has the springs intact. All of the wood is plain on mine except for the places at the end for the hands . Yours has fancy scroll work . Seems like they are from the same approx. time though. I haven't had time to do anything with mine yet but I hope to get to it soon.

Are you planning on getting this chair ? I know from your past posts that it will be AMAZING when you get done. Oceanna has lots of pics....food for thought :) c

No, but I would grab it so fast it would make your head spin! Then I'd ask over on the antiques board if anyone had seen one like it and if they could show a picture of what it was supposed to look like all fixed up. It needs some kind of seat cut for it and if I couldn't figure it out, I'd have an upholsterer do that for me. Fixed up that's a lovely chair and would be worth quite a lot.

Are you going to get it?

Trickle towers are a type of filter, but the one you linked to is a new version to me. It looks like it would do a good job of filtering the water. The towers can be made from virtually any material, rocks, lava rock, plastic pots etc, anything that the water can slowly trickle down over. Usually the tower sits in the pond, the water, pumped up through the center to the top of the tower, then trickles down over the outside of the filter, where the bacteria grows. NOTE.The one you linked to, will have the water trickling through the filter media in the center. You can buy the seeds. They come in mixed colors of bright pink (most common color), softer pink, yellow (least common), red, orange (rare), white and peach/apricot, hence the name Summer Carnival. They bloom the first year, unlike traditional HHs. They reseed very well, but new seed needs to be introduced every two years to keep the colors going, as they revert back to the bright pink, it being the stronger gene color. I have grown them myself. Easy to grow. Color variations are iffy. "Like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're going to get". I have never gotten a yellow or orange, even though it is shown on the seed package. My mother did though, so it is possible. The most common color I have ever gotten is the bright pink. So each color is on it own separate plant. Not one plant branching with all those colors. OKAY? A dose of Fish Emulsion Tea once a month will keep them growing and producing blooms all summer. I calculate, though, that one share grew to 144 ... which would make the 100 shares grow to 14,400. ... for better than $969,000. Wow I've never seen one just like that. That's neat! I took photos of a big moth when we first moved into our last home, over 20 years ago. It's antenna was like feathers. Had similar markings as this one, but was in brown, beige and rust. Just gorgeous. Pre-digital so I don't have a copy on my computer. This one you captured is quite amazing. Did you take any other photos at different angles? If so I'd love to see them.

I have talked to the owner, who loves to rescue old chairs and has THIRTEEN rockers plus many other chairs in his house that he has restored! He says that he and his wife discussed this, and just don't have room for another chair.

I honestly don't know where I'd put it at the moment, but it is just so interesting looking...

I have an old high school friend who does upholstery, and a cabinet maker former neighbor who does chair repair. I'd probably have to employ both to get this done, so am still pondering...The carving is like nothing I have seen, and that is what intrigues me. I suspect I can get it for less, and may see it this weekend.

Grab it! The carving is gorgeous, the back must have been upholstered (unfinished "ugly" wood), but I'd guess it was just a wrap-around type headrest and leave the "U" shaped piece open. The hardest part (for me) would be rebuilding the seat. Ask the seller about that part, maybe he can get the springs tied and put in place for you for slightly more, so all you have to do is refinish (if needed) and reupholster?

A great guy who has restored many chairs on the HGTV board did this mock-up for me. He thinks it's a circa 1920's Tudor style with a shield back. It helps me see what it may have looked like as far as the fabric covering on the back.

WOW that is gorgeous. You can't have too many chairs...I will be getting the Morris chair back next week . Then will start on the next one when I get back from NYC. Too many irons in the fire. I hope you get that chair. It is a beauty. c

You find the most interesting and beautiful things on CL and eBay, my3dogs! I thought it was funny that the ad says "it needs a little work" -- if that's the case, I'd hate to see one that needs a lot of work! I've never seen a similar chair, but I'll bet you can make it drool-worthy! Good luck with it!

m3d, I have never seen a chair like that before. I think I have read that Victorian photographers sometimes had special "fancy" chairs they used for portraits. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the chair. Just a SWAG. Red velvet upholstery, of course. :)

:-) Well, I spent a big $25 on a CL find yesterday, so we'll see. WAIT til you see my find in it's new home. I'm thrilled! I'm about to post it.
