I did my 3 blocks over the weekend. It's very pretty and goes together quickly. I think Cathy's color guidelines are jut right for this one and it will make a beautiful quilt - very warm and homey.

A note about cutting and assembly: The pattern recommends cutting one square 6 7/8 and another 3 7/8, then cutting each on the diagonal and saving 1/2 of each for another project. But you can get both pieces you need from one 6 7/8 square. Cut just one square of each color (except the tan) 6 7/8, then cut it on the diagonal. 1/2 of that is the large piece you'll use. The other 1/2 can be cut again to give you the smaller piece: a half square triangle measuring 3 7/8 on 2 sides.

Would love to have done this one but unfortunaely i still cannot use the machine, my foot is recovering from my operation which was five weeks ago, now have another five to go.........good job i had some quilting to do and also started a log cabin by hand. Happy Christmas to you all

I've been working on this today and it must not be a good day for me to be sewing! LOL I ripped a quarter of it out and re-did it only to find that it wasn't THAT quarter that was off, but the other three! Fortunately-???- it's just the center triangles that need to be redone, so aside from ripping the four quarters apart, it'll be an easy fix - but one for another day! LOL I think I convinced myself that it was going to a difficult block because of all the HST's (I'm not a big fan of them). I would have liked to have done the tube method with this block, but didn't have time to figure out the measurements and be able to post the block early. But it would have been so much easier!
Oh and Kate, I did the same thing you did with using the 2nd half of the large triangle. And unless I miscounted, I only used 3 of the 3 7/8" X 7 3/4" strips.
Ann, good to hear from you! Good to hear the operation went well and hope the recovery goes the same! Not too much longer before you'll be back into the full swing of things! :)

I did my 1st of 3 blocks the other day & finished the other 2 tonight. Did not read about the cutting until now, but Kate you were right & it's a good way to make the best use of your fabric - not so much waste. After cutting the 1st one I made a template for the 2 triangles so as not to have the leftover pcs.
Since I'm making 3 I was tempted to use the same tan in all, but then opted not to since it will take away from the scrappy look. I enjoyed this block, it was fun, & it could make a good masculine quilt - also very warm & homey as Kate had said.
Going to a LQS about 45 min away tomorrow w/a favorite sewing friend but will hit the PO first. One of my new yr's resolutions is to get my mail out asap - rather than let it sit around for a week like I'm good at doing! I'm doing the Baltimore Album (that I think a few of you are doing also) & need to 'tweek' my fabric selections. I'll try to be good, but this shop is like a warehouse! It's in a huge pole barn w/3 rows of bolts high & 2 rows deep on the bottom 2! Crazy!! - & intimidating unless you go with a purpose & perserverance -a little patience doesn't hurt either:):).

Mailed 3 blocks today. Got there early for a change - went to the PO twice this week only to have the line 20+ people long! - no kidding! What ARE these people mailing? They can't all be mailing blocks (if they are, we should talk - we could save a lot of $ just swapping in the parking lot! lol!)

Cathy, this is a great idea to post a pic of the blocks you have already rec'd. This not only helps me select fabric that will hopefully blend with the others, but it gives me incentive to get my butt in gear and make these blocks. Seeing them together makes me like this block. I like the sashing - I need to use sashing more. Thanks.
I'll let you know when I get them done.

Had so much fun doing the first one, that I'm planning on two more. The first one is in warm yellows to golds, just hope they're not too light,now that I've seen the pics above.
