Hi, I would get a new stand, whatever else you end up doing (even if the new TV is hung on the wall, you can always use the stand for something or other). I find the room to be very nice (love the walls!) but rather bare in terms of any artwork. If you had a small collection of family photos you could make the TV blend in a bit better and not look so stark if the pictures were hung around it, though of course not in a straight up-across-down pattern, but a bit staggered, though balanced. And why not put some pictures on the other walls?

Have you checked your local Craigs List for entertainment centers or armoires?? There may be one that might work across that corner or even across the whole wall where the chest of drawers now sits.....and then you could move the chest of drawers to the "window wall" ....

Also check around for artworks with lots of blue/silver that would work in your room too. Just for ideas -- check out art.com -- browse their categories ..... maybe abstract? Perhaps look for two co-ordinating artworks -- to hang over each nightstand ....

For now -- simple fresh white sheers would look lovely on your windows!

My Master Bedroom is large like that too. On one side of my bed I have a couple of collectible chairs as a seating area. On the other side of my bed I have a huge palm tree in the corner. I have a large 3-tiered display stand in front of my main window. Opposite my bed the wall is long like yours and I have a desk set up...it is six 2-drawer file cabinets lined up with a kneehole space and away from the wall with a large piece of wood on top for the surface. That is covered in fabric and I have a collectible library file cabinet laying on its side on top for the back. That area can hold a TV and deskwork.

The wall opposite your bed looks like it could handle a bigger dresser or even a big desk. A large armoire in the corner for your TV would still allow you to watch it as you currently do. You could also handle a bench at the foot of your bed. Love the colors and the walls, there is a lot of opportunity there.

larke That tv stand is DEFINITELY going! The question is what will replace it. This picture is on the wall to the right of the TV now, but perhaps some other pictures would help to 'bring the walls in' a little more. (And yes, it's an 'overdone' picture - but I had a fabulous vacation there so it's good memories in the right colors!)

teacats Have started looking around a little, but wasn't really sure what I was looking FOR, haha. And you're right - sheers would look nice on that window. Actually have pleated shades now that I like, and usually there's a lot of green out the window that I like.

vampiressrn Would love to see pics to get an idea of dimensions. Intrigued by your desk set up - a big flat table MAY work in that area, on a diagonal, to give it some mass...and fabric covered may soften it/help it not clash with the other wood furniture. I've thought of putting shelves under that window, but never found anything with the right proportion. If anyone has ideas, would love to see those too.

OK..............The contingencies are that the bed cannot be moved from it's current location, not that that would matter being that there is only one other wall that could take it and the result would not yield a greater benefit especially taking into account the cost of moving the switches. The other is that you like the TV in that exact spot since it can be viewed from the bathroom and the bed.

So.........basically the answer is, you need 'more stuff'. I try to never suggest ideas that cost money unless the OP has indicated they are going shopping for new items. Most of the time a room just needs decluttering or to be put on a diet by removing furniture that is not serving any purpose to solve decorating dilemmas.

In this case I would suggest an amoire for the TV. Make sure you get one with a pull-out and swivel so the sides don't block viewing with the amoire angled in the corner. Don't worry about matching woods. In a larger room you can mix different wood tones and/or painted pieces. (Smaller rooms run the risk of looking junky with mismatched pieces.)

One of the first and more inexpensive fixes is to add a dust ruffle to the bed and maybe fluffier bedding so that it does not look skimpy. Due to the Contemporary styling of the bed don't actually get a "ruffle" but something box pleated. A bench at the foot of the bed will be functional and help fill in the room. Some art over the bed.

Curtains on the windows will help with the emptiness the room has now. How about a trunk placed under the window? Great for storage of out of season items too.

Is that chaise actually used for sitting? It's diminutive size emphasizes the vastness of the room. Can it be put elsewhere? A large room needs large pieces of furniture.

If it is in the budget I would get larger nightstands. You can use small dressers or tables next to a big bed. Larger lamps would have added impact. Over time can the current furniture in this room be moved to be used in a guest room and larger pieces be purchased? A larger dresser and chest of drawers would fill in the room and increase storage options. Avoid the tendency to try to fill in the room with a lot more little pieces of furniture to fill in any "holes". Spend the money in the budget on getting one or two beefy substantial pieces. Trying to fill in the room with decorative tea carts and fake plants will just make the room look cluttered without solving the original problem of the vastness the room has. Only buy furniture pieces that have a real function. Don't fall into the trap of buying a lot of shin bangers. Leave walls blank until you find art that you love. Buying art as mere 'fillers' won't make your heart sing when you look at them, they will only bring your spirits down.

Adding crown molding at the wall level and in the pan would soften the harsh lines it has and make the ceiling not seem so vast. Note how some of the wall color is brought up to break up the 'sea of white'. Just bring up some blue. Don't do the cloud pattern.

Right now the only real color in the room is Blue and there need to be another color or two to break things up. The color can be in the new bedding or bench cushion with a few pieces of wall art or things set on surfaces. Take your cue from the painting you love with the touches of Rust, Faded Yellow and Dusty Pink. Use Muted colors. Blues and Yellows are very intense and can be screaming when put together. Believe me, a 'dirtied' Yellow color will still look very intense in a room with a Blue background.

Unless those pictures are really deceiving it looks like you could (and should) fit a whole seating group at the foot of your bed. Maybe a loveseat, rug, small table. Or two chairs and an ottoman between them. I would definitely put a large piece of furniture either under the new TV or get a storage cabinet. Either is ok I think.
I would suggest decorating the dresser like you would a chest in your LR. Larger scale items, frames etc. It would fit in nicely with a new seating grouping.

I'll try to catch a picture of my desk in the bedroom this weekend. Another thing you can do is use a long dining table as a desk with a nice leather wingback chair on that wall.

DillyDally - I had looked at benches and trunks for the foot of the bed, but they all felt like they would look lost there. A trunk under the window, however, would probably be great - not sure why I hadn't thought of that, but will start looking for one. The chaise looks a *little* less lost there with a high/thick navy cushion on it, is used for sitting, and has sentimental value (was the favorite seat at my grandparents' lake home) so it's staying there. Similarly, the bed has more volume with a new mattress - it's probably 8" higher than the old one, and enough to make some difference.

Unfortunately, no use for the furniture in another room...and not a budget right now to replace it. Having said that - the idea of small dressers instead of nightstands is perfect, and I'll keep my eyes open over time. No risk of teacarts/lots of small furniture/too many knicknacks - not my taste. And I agree about the artwork - have been looking for something perfect (or close) and haven't found it. Will focus more on pictures for now - we have a lot, and not enough places to display them.

Beachbum - the pictures are a little, but not a lot, deceiving. Not sure that there's room for a whole seating arrangement without really chopping the room up. I've actually thought numerous times that a sizable (48"?) round table in the middle of the room would be perfect....but then am convinced that it would end up looking like a big round table put there just to take up space. Plus, it couldn't have something tall on it for volume without really chopping up the room.

Putting bigger things on the dresser is a great idea - will start looking for some taller things to add some volume there.

Looked around a LITTLE after reading these - I think something like this desk might be interesting for the TV and maybe some pictures. Would love it if the satellite receiver fit on the bottom shelf - will have to measure that, and the overall dimensions (may be too small overall) tonight.

I would not go with something four-legged for the TV. Not only might a TV on a table look top heavy but then there is the issue of the dreaded cords. It the table is angled in the corner the empty space behind is visible and looks awkward.

How does the idea of an area rug on top of the W2W carpeting sound? Maybe put at the foot of the bed and slightly under it. Something thin and with a pattern to break up the sea of Blue and make the room not looking so vast. Or even a hard surfaced reed rug? I know, I know that what is under bare feet is a very personal preference so the reed rug may not be everyone's cup of tea, but they do offer contrast of texture while not adding a lot of color and pattern.

I totally understand working with a small budget and if another room cannot accept the dressers then there is a way to make them work and look great in the current room.

I did not realize those were slightly older photos and some of the issues have been resolved already like with new bedding.

Agree on the four-legged...while you were posting, I was web-shopping, and found this which is closer. Still need to measure, and want to see it in person - it may be too heavy, although in general I think some mass may be good.

Also found something for the dresser that I really like...although it's not as big as I'd like (13"x12.5" - so the width is probably ok but not the height necessarily.) Will keep looking to see if there's something taller I like too, and hopefully create a three-piece setting of some sort.

And yes, probably should take some new pics with the cushion, the higher bed, shade, etc. While none makes a big difference individually, it does add up to a little more volume. There's also a table to the right of the chaise (as you're looking at it) with a small-ish framed picture above it.

One thing I'd do is get a bench across the foot of the bed. Since the headboard is vertical slats, try something with slats in the bench. And a thick upholstered cushion.

Next, I would get some real beefy chests to serve as bedside tables, not necessarily alike. Sort of his and hers, maybe even a round skirted table on your side???.

The mirror does not give any substance to the wall, because all you see reflected is more empty blue wall. Put something there, or have a set of pictures there. Or a couple of wall sconces with candles or colorful vases.

Definitely get a hefty TV stand, and a large flat panel TV, also put a DVD under it, so that means you need something with some shelves or glass doors to zap it with the remote.

Get some sheers or something which extends beyond the window size, and then have a low book case or other piece of furniture under the window.

I love the paint job on the walls, even though blue is not for me. And I love the dark woods. Be sure to not make everything all the same. The chaise is a pleasing relief, maybe do something else light under the window?

You do have a humongous bedroom. It can use a couple of large plants which do not require much light. The old fashioned rubber trees are able to survive in low light. Maybe get two of them, so you can change out the plants from a sunnier room before a stint in the darkened room.

Sometimes adding architectural elements such as free-standing shutters or a screen behind tables or dressers can add depth and a tall plant will provide ambiance. Search CL or your local thrift stores. Bottom line...don't force items into the room or they won't feel right. Take your time and add items that appeal to you.
