I think the best suggestion in the whole thread was Holly's suggestion to have them kneecapped! LOL! The prices are robbery. For that amount, I'd expect custom mosaic work to the level of the baths of Pompeii. Something truly artsy and spectacular. You're getting I-95 truckstop quality work instead. They are in over their head. I know you like him, but there is something not quite right here in the fact that your GC hasn't already addressed the issue permanently. He is failing in his primary role if he does not. If he is the one paying them, then it's HIS problem to sort out the materials from labor here. You shouldn't even know there's an issue with their contract. You shouldn't have even seen the contract between the two. It doesn't involve you. Your role is to insist on the quality of work that your fee should be providing. His role is to provide that quality by selecting the appropriate subcontractors and supervising their work. Even if he has to eat some fees here or take a loss by severing the relationship with this sub, it's HIS problem that he agreed to the vague contract. NOT YOUR PROBLEM! He needs to cut his losses with the subs and move on. If he doesn't do that, then he is either getting kickbacks from them or he is related to them. There is some other hidden motivation to keep them. It's NOT a "court thing" at all. He has the right and obligation to set the quality standard of the work that the sub provides, and if the sub doesn't provide to that standard, it's his job to get rid of them, even if it costs him. He is the GC and you pay him for the headache resolution. You don't keep people who screw up and cost you money---unless they aren't really costing him money.

Squirrel, you are probably right in that I couldn't just go to the warehouse to pick it up. And Val, I realize I should have inquired more. I just didn't know to do that. I just figured cost of tile, glue, sealer, sales tax. I was surprised by the delivery charge and didn't know how to react, so I didn't. And yes, the reason I went to this place was exactly because I couldn't find anything even close at HD or Lowe's. I did find a few things that would have sufficed, probably at 1/4 the cost, but they would just be another version of what I have in there now - a peel and stick. I wanted something different - actually wanted ceramic tile. The floor is already raised because we had to put a new subfloor in and my husband refuses to take it out. He said it would be nearly impossible given the number of nails he put in it. So backerboard and tile would have raised that floor to almost a step up. I got something called dura-ceramic, which looks almost like ceramic, and is very, very thin. It can go over the subfloor without a backer. I read a lot of reviews on it. Some like it, some hate it, typical of reviews. When I stopped in the paint store I have purchased from before, they suggested I go to another of their stores where they have had it down in the showroom for three years. I actually got to see it down and that was a big help. I do agree that you get what you pay for. I know I paid more than I would have if I had purchased it online, but I also got some help picking out a paint color (knew which direction I wanted to go, just needed a little help with exact color), so all is good. Today I am off to a local textile store to look for drapery fabric for my bedroom. I just remembered about this place and hope they are still there! The only other source I have is JoAnn's and have already been there. Maybe there was something there, but I surely couldn't find anything, and of course, there was no one there to help. So if I find something today, it may be pricier but at least I will have it. Thanks again for all of your responses. They really helped. I do appreciate this forum. It has helped me greatly with many things, not only questions I post, but I get help from reading what others post as well. So all is well -- now if only it weren't so cold and snowy today. It's much easier to shop when it is warmer.

Thank you for your responses, but I was told by the IRS that if the windows had been purchased prior to December 31, 2010 it would have been 30% of the cost of the windows or up to $1,500.00 so I am out $711.00 which is why I wanted the windows put in prior to Dec. 31st so I could have gotten the $711.00 back to go towards the window cost. I spoke to several other contractors and they all stated that I should have no problem getting the tax credit from this window contractor as he did try to deceive me with installing the wrong windows and I have all proof of this including verbal and written proof. So couldn't I take him to court for this money? I did try to work with this man, but he isn't willing to give me what I should be getting for a tax credit and I don't feel he should get by with this, what he did was totally illegal as he was going to give me the wrong stickers had he been able to get by with it and then I would have been defrauding the government by applying for the tax credit with the wrong windows.

We got our Ticor sink from Overstock too. Waited to get it with grids from Galaxy and they were out of stock of the sink when the grids arrived - we should have secured the order. We were desperate as we only had 2 weeks before the granite was to be cut. I search for the Ticor sink S3560 and eventually found it on Overstock. We did the same thing - reviewed the model number, photos etc. and ordered through Overstock. The sink arrived in the Ticor box, appears very solid and is insulated. Our installer said it was a solid sink, they noted that some square sinks can be flimsy - ours isn't. I am glad that Ticor confirmed that Overstock sells their sinks - there was always that question in my mind. We would have preferred to order with Galaxy - they are very good to deal with, but timing became the issue.
