Women's Dress Sizes &

My How They've Changed..

Last nite I was looking through our local Craigslist of "freebies", and a young woman was offering a lovely wedding dress. She didn't mention "the story" behind her generous offer, but what was interesting was that she said it was a Size 2 & that she was 5'3" & weighed approx. 115 lbs. (presumably she could still fit into it). If I recall correctly, the dress was a "2005 model".

At any rate, thinking back to the year 1958 when I was 21 & weighed 130 lbs. (I was & still am 5'3"), and then went on a diet & exercise program & my weight dropped to about 102 lbs., the smallest size I could fit even then was a size 8 or possibly a "Junior 7" (though because I was & am long-waisted, this only worked in "sheath-type" dresses without a defined waist).

In the late 1950ties-early 60ties, there used to be a small California dress chain called only "5-7-9". NOBODY back then ever heard of a size "1" or "2".

Women's dress sizes are a joke.
