In my quest for soapstone for our kitchen countertops, we took a field trip last week to Alberene Soapstone in Virginia. Here are some photos that I thought some of you soapstone fans might find interesting. This is the main office/fabrication site, and it ain't fancy.

The place has been in operation for over 100 years, and yes, that's soapstone that was used to construct the main buildings.

Here's DH with the requisite hardhat, examining the slabs.

And some irregular pavers/tiles.

And some 12x12 pavers.

And more slabs and more of the old soapstone buildings.

Of course, these slabs are not polished to the final stage, but I was overwhelmed! What fun!!
