Bathroom grout cleaning

My neighbor just had her bathroom grout professionally cleaned and it makes the whole bathroom look great. Have never had this done, but am going to find out how how much it costs.

I'm sure that the neighbor had the grout cleaned AND sealed. I wouldn't have the cleaning done without the thorough sealing afterwards.

I am interested in the details. My bathroom has a few areas that just never come clean, no matter what I do.

A friend of mine seal tiles herself in her new bathroom, but didn't go all the up thinking nothing would happen to those high tiles. Well, you can tell where she stopped.

Thanks muchly. Will check out Kerrock. Panasonic is on the list. Now the frameless shower door is. Flooring is unknown. Doing radiant heat so that is a factor. And house is tiny, less than 900 s.f., and tight, tight, tight for energy conservation so vinyl is out (out-gassing). Might be marmoleum/lino or porcelain tile (which I learned this morning from Bill V can have thin grout lines -- I'm a fan of tile but hate grout). What I'm wondering about most is the beadboard idea. Not having any painted surfaces in our current bathroom, I can not speak to wood, painted beadboard vs. Italian Grazia tile beadboard. I'm guessing the Italian tile is tres cher but am I going to regret painted wood? My husband is hard on a house (rough and tumble, who doesn't notice the debris he leaves in his wake) and the German Shepherds are murder: bathrooms are goal cages for games of keep-away and walls get a work out at bath time. Since I love all dearly and don't want to get rid of any of them, I need to figure out how to make a home that will accommodate us all, and within budget.

Guest bathroom shower surround, glossy white tiles, "regular" TEC grout, 2008 I think. MB and hall bathroom tub surrounds, glossy white tiles, TEC XT grout, 2011. No issues. The XT grout doesn't require sealing, but can be, using a solvent based sealer. We have moderately hard water. We wipe down the tub surrounds with a microfiber cloth after showering (to prevent water spots on the glossy tile). I clean the bathrooms pretty much weekly. I spray the tub surrounds with 7th Generation disinfecting bathroom cleaner spray. Let sit a few minutes, and wipe dry with a microfiber cloth. Tile and grout look as they did when first installed.

Yes, it does help dramatically in situations I have seen. The tile pros have very large rotary machines, like carpet cleaning machines, but specialized for tile. Some have a special machine with a narrow brush that goes back and forth on just the grout, like a gigantic mechanical toothbrush. The chemicals, detergents, and hot dirty water are sucked up by the machines, followed by rinsing thoroughly. They can seal the tile and grout again, I highly recommend it for easier cleaning afterward. A large kitchen and three bathrooms cost a few hundred dollars in a low cost of living area. It took all day. BTW, there are special hand-held electric scrubbers they use for wall and shower tile.

If this is new tile to be installed, use epoxy grout in white. The epoxy grout will keep dirt, etc. from going into the grout, will sit on top and supposedly dirt can be washed off. Research epoxy grout.

Same as Ellen - I have spent many, many dollars on products and this and that to clean my bathroom grout. I finally resorted to buying a white paint pen and going over the grout. If anyone discovers a sure-fire way to clean it, they will be rich!

just watched the one of the shows on the diy ch and the gal was restoring a claw foot tub...it was lots of hard work but she must have been using a product like bartenders friend as it didn't scratch the surface...that the main problem...not hurting the tile...mammie is that what they used? their steam machine? I have a small one, but don't have grout anymore....
