Yes, I do buy generics. Mostly all of Aldi's canned goods are generic. I haven't found one that's been inferior to the brand name. I like generic IGA and Food Club refried beans better than brand name. I buy most of my grains at a bulk food store in Amish country. However, I do prefer brand name cereals.

I believe it's trial and error for each person to see if you like the generic version. Also, you have to be careful as there are times when the brand name will cost less than the generic.

I did buy some generic pork and beans for my homemade beenie weenies (love those with tuna sandwiches!) and they had a funny taste to them, so I buy name brands on beans.

I do stick to name brands for toilet paper and paper towels though. Can't skimp on those! lol

I buy many generic items but not all. I like Cherry Coke and Campbells soups for example.

All the time. Most of the store brands are as good/better than the national ones. The possible exception being ice cream. Most store brands are awful. I also buy the drugstore versions of medicens, too. They seem to work just as well to me.

I generally buy name brands, on sale, in bulk. I liked sams club red enchilada sauce, they discontinued it. I like sams club jarred salsa better than name brand jarred salsa.

I remember reading about cereals, and the point of the article is that the national cereal companies make the generics for the stores and they are the same as their lead brands. So you just get someone's brand name cereal in a no-name box or sack.

I use a lot of store brands. Kroger is my favorite, but they don't have that here. I still buy some things name brand like Cheerios. I still haven't found the store brand equivalent.

There are generic cereals that we like better than name brand.
Both President's Choice (A Canadian Loblaws store brand) and the Selections versions of cornflakes, we like better than Kellogg's.

Dangerous but common misconception. Malt-O-Meal is considered a "generic" in the trade and yes they make a "generic" then for the store but no, Malt-O-Meal's Frosted Flakes are *not* made by Kellogg! This myth is not new. I remember my dad being convinced that regular gas was the same as "ethyl". I still remember him saying "They probably come out of the same tank!"

Now I do recall when I worked in Creamettes, they made several different brands of pasta and the recipe was the same. They'd stop the machines, change boxes/bags, and continue, however that's not always a "generic" either. Sometimes one name is more popular in one region than is another. Mayonaise brands Hellman's and Best are made by the same company and marketed in different areas. Many say it's the same but some claim they're "slightly" different and the latter is probably more credible just like did you realize that "Kenmore" is a generic? Well, it's a store brand. Sears made store brands fashionable and to the point that people actually believe Sears builds appliances and the like! But no, they're all built by other manufacturers but they're built to Sear's specifications as are many store brands.

There are a lot of companies that produce generics but they're different than the commonly called "brand" companies. They've gotten away from true "generics" too and gone to store brands and private label brands. For instance, Walgreens sells their Walgreens brand equivalent of Pantene shampoo on the shelf next to Pantene. Bottle looks the same, so it must be made by Pantene, right? Nope. Sorry, but that's not true. I remember reading that Kirkland was made by Tide so it's the same thing. Nope, not true. Their detergent is made by Huish, another quite large company who makes many store/private brands. I recall a guy in a grocery store one time yelling at his wife "GET THE GENERIC ASPIRIN. Aspirin is aspirin and see? The sign says it's made by Bayer!" The sign was one of those "Compare to Bayer" signs. And while I agree that 5 grain aspirin is comparable and equivalent for my use, they're not the "same". The big irony? I was getting aspirin then and Bayer was on sale, cheaper than the generic! LOL Ah, when people assume!

I buy a lot of generic, store and/or private label items but again watch the prices since, as said, you can often buy name brand cheaper. However, that does not mean that name brand is always better. I'm brand loyal to a few things, but very few and usually there's several different brand options that are acceptable to me.

Keep in mind that formulas and manufacturers change in the generic/store/private label brands. So that can of Clear Choice soup might taste one way today and other way tomorrow. Not unlike "Great Value", Kirkland, Member's Mark, etc.

I like most of Target's store brands - Archer Farms for example. I think I have done exactly what they had in mind - quit shopping elsewhere because I like their store brands better than name brands and obviously can't get their brands anywhere else.
