OT - Wedding

I have been out of touch for a while and wanted to let you know how the wedding went!

DS got married last Saturday (11-23) in Estes Park. Our national guard and road construction crews worked so hard and both highways were open after our September flooding washed out major highways with 2 days to spare! (opened 11-21) so our drive was just over an hour instead of the 3 hour drive we anticipated. YAHOO.

Thursday we had about 5" of snow and another 3" on Friday, so the venue was beautiful, but the kids debated pulling the plug on the outdoor ceremony that they both really wanted. We talked to them and convinced them that if they wanted it outside, everyone could survive 30 minutes. Katie added the navy blue pashimas and gloves a few days before the wedding and it turned out beautifully. (we had been having 60 degree temps until Wednesday before the wedding!) They also got boxes of handwarmers the greeters handed to the guests as we all left the reception venue and walk down to the ceremony site. The venue also provided cushions to sit on and blankets for the guests.

Tobey and I were both pretty emotional since Tyler is an only child and we have an incredibly close relationship. Tobey told him on Friday he didn't want him to get married because we would lose him, but Tyler assured him he wouldn't. On Saturday, Tobey said he was happy he was getting married to such a lovely young woman! I almost didn't make it through my toast or the mother-son dance without crying!

We were blessed to have pretty much all of our family to be able to be here. (only 2 nephews couldn't come). Our "in-laws" are lovely people with values we appreciate. After our chilly ceremony, dinner, toasting, and dancing went on until almost 11pm. They also had a "photo booth" for all the guests to have fun, posed shots taken by one of the photographers - they even had lots of photo props!

Our moms, my sister, and best friend stayed until yesterday. It has been wonderful. The kids are in St. Lucia on their honeymoon until Monday night so we are anxious for their return. We will be anxious to see all the pictures from their photographer!

What a spectacular wedding! Looks like everyone is having a great time. Remember, you didn't lose a son, you gained a daughter.

Oh my gosh, it's coming quickly now! "those eyes were absolutely made for suckering the humans in" . . . how right you are! Karlene, Lovely pictures! You all look so beautiful! It is good see see that you can still smile (is that relief?) Our DS is getting married November 23 - in the mountains. He said they will have an outside ceremony if it is 45ÃÂ° or above, otherwise the venue has an indoor set up. I joked that his fiance might want to consider long underwear under her dress! Here is the recipe for scones that I used. It comes from a National Trust Traditional British Recipes book I bought from the BBC.. Measurements have been converted to US. (Only to be eaten with a large hat on, a cup of tea, and listening to the English national anthem of course.) Scones: 1 cup flour 1 tsp baking powder One half stick butter (I used low fat) One half cup brown sugar One half cup raisins 1 egg One quarter cup milk (again, low fat is fine) Milk to brush the tops Preheat oven 450. In large mixing bowl, sift flour and baking powder and gently combine. Rub in diced butter w finger tips until like breadcrumbs. Add sugar and raisins and combine evenly. Make well in center of mix and slowly add milk and egg (already mixed together) Stir mix w fork to make smooth dough. Knead slightly to make ball and put on floured surface. Roll to about 1 inch thickness and cut into circles w cookie cutter etc. Put on greased baking tray; brush w milk. Bake 15 mins. Also works if you add nuts, cranberries etcÃ¯Â¿Â½ (but less English that way!) Serve warmed up and cut in half, with butter then dollop of strawberry jam, and some type of whipped cream on top. Yum. Oh, and DH is a fully trained professional Dignitary Protection person... It's like having my own body guard. :-)

Moccassin- I would love to see your swarovski stars tree! Since our wedding colors were blue and silver, I've always gotten ornaments in those colors. In the past few years, I've really fallen in love with crystal ornaments. I didn't even realize until I was putting up my tree and looking at the date written on each ornament, that the past 3 years have been crystal. This years is the Waterford snowflake, lasts years was a teardrop shaped crystal and a swarovski snowflake, the year before was a swarovski bird. All of the ornaments on the family tree in the living room are durable, nonbreakable ornaments. Hopefully, when my kids move out they will be like I was, and have a tree full of ornaments. Terri- beautiful tree but you do have to bring Rudy back! As we have all agreed on, its about the memories! I have so many ornaments and I love this time of year so much that I'm thinking I will snag a tall narrow tree after Christmas on clearance and put it in my dining room next year. I will keep my wedding tree in my room where it currently resides, my "elegant" tree in the living room and the brightly colored, all other ornaments, in the dining room. I already have a miniature tree for each of the girls that is 4 ft tall for them to have in their rooms but they are still young enough that they mess with ornaments so I haven't put them up in a few years. I can just see though, in 10 years I'm going to practically have a tree in every room!! As much as I admire my tree every year, I think I enjoy putting it up and taking it down the most. As I grab the seashell ornament and pack it away, I'm reminded of my trip to San Diego. When I grab my cute little snowman ornament, I'm instantly transported back to our weekend trip to San Antonio and the Macy's store I picked him up at. Every ornament is a little vessel of memories. I see them, touch them, and I'm right back at the moment in time and my life that I was when I got them. I think the fact that we only see/hold them once a year is part of what makes them so magical. That cheap, one dollar globe from the dollar store? We were flat broke, college kids but I still insisted on getting an ornament for the tree and that means just as much to me as the 75 dollar swarovski crystal does. It tells a story, specifically, our history. Where we once were and where we are now. That Pyrex I received as a wedding gift? I use it still, every single day but when I grab a loaf pan, I'm not flooded with memories of my wedding day, despite the fact that I received it on that day. WOW Sue, amazing wedding album, it really is one of the best I have ever seen. At first I thought the snow was a prop, I didn't realize it was real lol! The scenery is spectacular, I'm so used to beach weddings! I have actually seen it snow one time.

The mom is allowed to cry, even dad if he wants too. A wedding is such a stressful and emotional time for everyone, but you all appear to handle it very well.

They do make a handsome couple, and so do the parents! Thanks for taking the time to post the pics.

Congratulations all around. It was a beautiful wedding but I am amazed that the bride was able to tolerate the weather in her lovely gown. It must have been the heat of the moment. A day to remember for everyone. Beautiful.

Everyone looks so happy in the photos! It looks like a lovely wedding. Don't you enjoy the "after glow" from the event. Once all the planning and excitement is done, I love to sit and relive it and just enjoy the memory.

We'll probably visit the park when we come out in May for DD's grad from CS. She wants us to stay a week or two and do some sightseeing in the area. I haven't seen her since May and a can't wait for her to come home for Christmas!

Congratulations! The photos are fantastic - thanks for sharing. Great that the road was finished in time and everything worked out as planned. I think a snow wedding is beautiful and they planned in comforts to suit. You looked so happy and beautiful in your gown.

It looks like a winter wonderland. I'm glad they decided to keep their plans for an outdoor ceremony. They look very happy.

It looks like it was a beautiful wedding. Of course, having a beautiful bride and groom helped to put a special sparkle on the event. Time to relax in your sewing room now. :-)

Nanajayne - the bride and all of the bridesmaids put handwarmers in their bras!!! Most of the groomsmen also put them in the back pockets of their pants! I had them in my shoes and bra, too, since it was only about 35 degrees!

It was a wonderful day - I am anxious to see the photos from the photographer. She only posted 6 on her "preview" so will have to wait for the kids to get the CD!

Bev, I am sure you will enjoy an extended stay if you come in May. The national park is beautiful at that time of year! Hard to believe she is graduating already! Enjoy your Christmas break with her!

It's unusual to see wedding pics with snow in the background. It's gorgeous!

Most people want to have sun and sand.

We use hand warmers here -especially at football games - now they will be forever known as bra warmers! LOL
