Help! Kitchen Remodel Disaster!

I've made a terrible mistake and I don't know how to fix it. I've removed a wall to enlarge my kitchen, which turned out fine. But then I removed another 24 inches from the wall that intersected it. The problem is that the ceiling on the opposite side is vaulted. This leaves a gaping hole, screaming, 'mistake'. I can't think of how to solved this. If I put back the 24 inches of wall, it will mess up my kitchen island plan and will not solve the problem anyway, except to make it less noticeable. Please see pics and offer any ideas you can think of. This has to be fixed before my boyfriend comes home in a week. How about sofit or skylight? Help, somebody help me! I'm desperate and 'no' I didn't hire a contractor. No scolding, I already know. Thank you so much for any ideas or help you can give.

What is with the rapid slideshow ?????

Did you do all the drywall ?

You could frame out a 24" wide drop-ceiling with a triangular wall above it.....Hollow.....a continuation of the soffit and existing ceiling.....all ending at the wall

Leaving a single straight edge instead of your existing "L"

I don't see this "gaping " hole you're speaking about. I see some possible structural problems. When you removed these walls, were you aware that some were structural and might need alternative support?

OH FOR THE LOVE of RED PAINT ... OMG Been there - paid for it. The gray Primer is a Joke. It has nothing to do with a color primer .. What is needed is a Sheepskin Roller. How did I find that out .. UM my Paint disaster in my NEW renovated kitchen. I chose a Ben Moore color called " Night Flower". Its a deep red magenta color. Deepest of deep. All new primed drywall and new ceiling. Ceiling was to be original that was white plaster from yesteryear - " yet a story to be told" within renovating a house built in 1924. That I am not wanting to talk about. Anyway - UM Red Paint is the hardest to work with due to the inconsistency of of dye. I spent myself over 12 hours trying to paint and all that came up was a room that looked like a Cow had been murdered. Roller marks, streaks ..OMG it was Sick and I spent so many hours painting I wanted to be that Murdered Cow. I spared no expense on the paint - no expense on the tools. And it came out looking like a Room of Bloody Hell. So I had to call in a friend and he Used a Sheep skin Roller and It worked. I changed though the Paint. I went to Pittsburgh Paint and had them Match the Ben Moore Color " Night Flower" and they did Match it. My Friend painted my Kitchen with the Sheep skin roller and it finally came out without flaws - the color. before - My paint job - pic taken more than likely at 1 am - Me in pure agony because nothing I did could make it look right. after It seemed it was all within the actual Roller - the sheep skin roller made all the difference with the RED paint. Not saying a Sheep Skin roller is necessary for interior painting - Just RED paint. I hope this helps you.

Ours also has the "double molding" that you're talking about. I never noticed it until now! I think there may be a couple of reasons why it's bothering you... ...First, Bmorepanic is right, you (at least I do) often need time to get used to new/changed things ...Second, it might be b/c the center window isn't larger than the sides. With a bay, I think it looks better if the center window is larger than the sides...but maybe it's different with a "straight" window. Are the windows actually installed yet? Do you have a picture--installed or not? Also, check out the Finished Kitchens Blog for people with windows similar to yours. Airless is not a finishing tool. It is meant to throw paint on the outside of the house where you do not need a fine finish. You need a fine finish on your cabinets, just like a furniture finish. They need to use an HVLP sprayer. It is a fine sprayer used on furniture and cars etc. HVLP is not for painting the outside of the house. I am sorry if I sound pedantic. Aura is a high viscosity coating. It is not so easy to spray without the right equipment. It requires a 4 stage HVLP sprayer. There is lots of good info on the Apollo HVLP site. I hope I don't sound like I am trying to sell equipment. I've used an Apollo for years on all sorts of projects, including refinishing my kitchen cabinets 10 years ago to rejuvenate a miserable old kitchen. Thankfully I'm not a Realtor...I'm a flooring professional. Sorry to be the one to tell you the sad news...I'm going to guess I'm not the only one thinking the same thing. But if you insist on keeping the flooring, then go ahead and paint the reducers and the molding the same colour as the background colour of your floor. That would be the charcoal gray. This is the colour I would recommend along the kitchen cabinets. I would leave the trim white when it is up against the white wall base trim. The white looks very handsome in that situation. How thick is your vinyl? Do they make reducers for the vinyl that you can purchase? You will need a reducer at the wood/vinyl interface that is equal to the thickness of the vinyl.

If it's the cosmetic look of the results that worry you, I have the opinion that it looks fine. I don't see the problem.

I think I see what you are calling a big mistake - it's really only noticeable from the den. Looking sideways and from the kitchen, it doesn't appear to be a problem. The problem with your pics is that you concentrate solely on your perceived mistake, not on the kitchen/den as a whole. We can't see the floor, the dynamics of the rooms, etc.. It's hard to call anything a mistake or ugly when all you see is part of scene.

When you work with a budget, it's often a matter of trade-offs/compromises. I think one of the previous comments was to just extend the ceiling that is in the kitchen 2 feet to the wall so you close off the vaulted part so it isn't visible from the den. That would be simple and fast.

As abnorm stated, extend the drop ceiling. It would make your recessed lighting look better as well. They seem to close to the edge,imho.

So is the BF back?
If there's no problem with it structurally, I see nothing wrong as it is. We had something similar in our previous home after removing unwanted vertical beams.
Once it's painted I think it'll look fine.....................
