(X-Post) Kitchen Cabinet Disaster with Aura - please help!

I chose to have my new cabinets sprayed with Aura. My painters haven't used it before, but were comfortable trying it. The cabinet boxes and drawer fronts look great, but the cabinet doors look awful. There are splotches and unevenness everywhere. I don't know what to do! My painters will be back tomorrow to spray the second coat on, and now I am

wondering if I should have gone with Waterborne Satin Impervo (did not want to use an oil due to whitness of paint - BM Chantilly

Lace.). I know their sprayer is airless, but I don't know what tip they are using. My finish is satin, which I read uses a different tip. Could this be the issue?I have looked at every cabinet door and not one looks perfect. Should I switch paint tomorrow? What do I do? Please help!!! I am ready to cry.

Let them do one door and see what it looks like. If it's bad, make them stop. They should know what size needle and tip match the viscosity of the coating. They need to test on scrap wood. Did they sand the doors lightly before they began? Was there something on the doors that would make it blotch? Are they spraying in the house or at their place? It's all fixable so please don't despair.

Aura is just different. Personally I don't like using it on trim, doors or cabs because it's kind of a PITA. But don't switch. Have them re-spray. It "bonds" to itself on a second coat over dry paint in a way that other paints don't. Make your decisions after another coat goes on.

I would get rid of the columns and make the bottom of the sides of the hood stop level with the bottoms of the cabinets. I would then add trim around the tiled area on the upper part and around the arch above the stove - they both look unfinished compared to the small panels and all the other cabinets. Finally, I would paint the whole thing the color of the island but keep the trim details the same color as the trim in the room. I have to ask, just because I am always the odd thinker about these things - why would one want the range hood to be the focal point in the kitchen, especially when you don't have a one of those monster ranges there, just a cooktop? Seems to me that I would want the island, with the fun chandys, to be the focal point. I say paint it out to match the island and the kitchen trim and let the eye just kind of travel past it. I (hope) suspect they had a pet sitter. We used to use one in our house when we went on vacation, but I can tell you, it's an imperfect system since my dogs would eliminate in the house (and the pet sitter wasn't nearly as eagle eyed as I am!) so we came home more than once to a stain on the rug. Luckily, heart pine seems to handle dog urine better than other types of floors. Have you tried a little wood bleach or oxalic acid (Bar Keepers Friend?) - try a bit in an inconspicuous spot and see if it helps. If yes, then go for it over the entire area. Or try Nature's Miracle first. Our dogs have been pretty awful about going out since we moved to this temporary apartment and I swear I've been through a gallon of the stuff on our living room rug. Some days I forget they're housetrained. Sigh.

Thanks everyone! Mellyc123--Here's a photo (sorry it's so blurry) of the family room from when we first moved in. We've added some accessories and lighting, but the sectional, rug and credenza are the same. You can see it's much more masculine and darker wood and colors than the kitchen.

Please keep us updated. I would try the 2nd coat on only one door and see how it looks before proceeding on all the doors.

Thanks everyone. They are spraying at our house. Everything was sprayed inside EXCEPT the cab doors, which they sprayed outside. Could that have made the difference? Can the paint drips and splotches be sanded out before a second coat goes on? Am
I seeing more imperfections because I used an acrylic over an oil? Thanks again for your help!

Airless is not a finishing tool. It is meant to throw paint on the outside of the house where you do not need a fine finish. You need a fine finish on your cabinets, just like a furniture finish. They need to use an HVLP sprayer. It is a fine sprayer used on furniture and cars etc. HVLP is not for painting the outside of the house. I am sorry if I sound pedantic. Aura is a high viscosity coating. It is not so easy to spray without the right equipment. It requires a 4 stage HVLP sprayer.
There is lots of good info on the Apollo HVLP site. I hope I don't sound like I am trying to sell equipment. I've used an Apollo for years on all sorts of projects, including refinishing my kitchen cabinets 10 years ago to rejuvenate a miserable old kitchen.
All the drips etc can be sanded out and resprayed.
