We really need a floor plan. Buehl has some good instructions in the read me if you're new thread. It doesn't have to be fancy, just reasonably accurate.

Hey there, your kitchen reminds me a lot of my kitchen. I'm having a hard time really visualizing the space from a birds eye view, but we are in the middle of a remodel and have the same thing with the stove 'floating' on the wall. Some things that popped into my mind looking at your pics -
1) swing the cabinets around the corner so that you have an 'L' shape kitchen (cabs on current wall, plus on the current stove wall)
2) if it's in the budget - a cabinet depth fridge. We got a summit, it's a lot smaller than even a standard cabinet depth, but we wanted the room. I've included a link below. There's a similar liebherr model, but it's around $2800 versus $1200 - not sure if you can sacrifice the fridge space!
3) swap the fridge and stove position - so the fridge isn't blocking the doorway. slide the stove a little further down from where the fridge is to have counters on either side. That may make placement of the dishwasher hard, though, especially if you do an 'L' shape.
4) do a little banquette seating area in your eat in nook - use the same cabinets as you're putting on the wall as the benches to provide extra storage space.

ok, I mocked up a quick sketch on Paint...it is BY NO MEANS TO SCALE!!! But, I put in the measurements for the spaces. One thing I did not put in, is our kitchen table (round bistro table, 36" circumference, basically next to that corner hutch) and the wall that the corner hutch is on (which the basement stairs are on the other side of) is very difficult to measure with the hutch in the way....to the edge of the hutch it's 5'...but we will tear the hutch out, which will probably make that wall 6'...I have no idea where our blueprints are!)

Must haves:
A dishwasher!!!
...seating for at least 3 - us and our 4 year old
...and mostly, more cabinet space!

Wait, is it 11' from the bottom wall to the cabinets, or 11' from top wall to bottom wall? And what's on the other side of that bottom wall with the corner hutch?

And you think the stair wall is about 6'? I think I'd try to put banquet seating in that corner, and a shallow pantry all along that bottom wall. Other than that, I'd fill in the cabinets that should be surrounding the stove, do an over the range MW, and add a dishwasher. Without taking out a wall or moving the seating elsewhere, I think you're pretty limited with this space. Could you fit the table in the living room, by any chance?

I was out gathering samples today for prospective kitchen reno to a friends 50's era rowhouse.

This kitchen is about 9" on the window wall and 11" on the entrance wall. The interior door goes to the basement. The room is smaller than yours and you enter from the dining room (which is where the back door is) so no eat in requirements. I would think about pulling the fridge off of the "L" and building it in in the corner where the hutch is and then if you have enough space running a banquette between the enclosed side of the fridge and the wall with door to the patio on it. This set up uses the width of the room for the table and chairs and increases the counterspace and storage on the "L". Don't know about in your case but in the house I'm working on the neighbourhood has some family appeal and it is a first tme buyers area. I love small appliances but for first time buyers coming from apartments you want to be careful about using them as they sort of shout: Hey this house is small (they are often expensive as well).

Good luck! I recommend using a for free layout software or graph paper and just start moving stuff around and see what you come up with.

raenjapan - it's 11' from the cabinets to the bottom wall (so the length of the kitchen without cabinets is 13').

We can't take any walls out. Directly behind that corner hutch, on one side is the basement stairwell and on the other is the bathroom (which is the only bath in the house and we JUST gutted it).

It's a really nice neighborhood and all the houses look pretty much like this. Lots of first-time buyers, or people who have lived here for 50+ years.

Where is the window from either corner? How wide is it including the trim?

Where is the door? How wide is it including the trim?

How far from the wall behind the ref to the basement door? How wide is the basement door wall?

I've been playing with your floor plan. I love playing around with space. Anyway, it's not a very easy kitchen to work with. This is what I would do if it were mine though. I don't have an accurate plan to work with but this might work for you. It has your seating, and although there aren't many upper cabinets, you have a ton of storage in two tall pantries. Much nicer than having it above I think. Tell me what you think!

blondelle, I LOVE that layout!!! I was sort of thinking about that this morning....our sink/window isn't exactly smack in the middle of that wall, so we have just under 5 ft (59") from the fridge wall to the window casing. We could probably either purchase or make a table with bench seating that would fit in that space, then fill the other walls with storage. Excellent! Thank you!!!!

bmorepanic: the window is 52" wide (including trim). The back door is 39" wide (including trim) and the basement door wall is 40" wide. The window sits 59" from the fridge wall and 39" from the wall that the stove is "floating" on.

Thanks to all for reading and helping. We have lived here for 7 years and we were pretty young when we moved in (23 and 24) so now we are just ready to make it look like a more modern, "adult" space for the next couple years!!!! It's just hard to work with such a small and "unchangable" area (at least, size-wise). I just don't have that kind of vision at designs and layouts!
