excellent work!! on the other post I had posted some options for what to use for IE.

Personally I never use IE so it is not something I am real familiar with.
I advise to always have at least 2 browsers on your pc in case IE breaks then you still have a way to get online and ask for help.
I would suggest you download firefox, install it, let it import all your settings from IE when it installs, then we can add the adblock plus add on and easylist to stop the ads.
Check the other post for things to try for IE, some of the ones I listed as for IE9 are also for IE8.

Let me know if you want to do the firefox route and I will guide you through it.

be sure to do the links in the other thread for the in private filtering which is also present on 8 that will help.

turn on InPrivate Filtering by using Safety : InPrivate Filtering Settings and select Automatically Block. Click OK.
unfortunately it has to be set each time you use IE this also turns it on by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+F
There is a way to make a shortcut for it to open that way in default

There is another add on that I have used for years that also provides some ad blocking functions, It is called IE7pro but it does work with IE8 as well. Here is the page for that.

You will need to turn on the inprivate browsing features in IE, look at the top of the browser bar there's a tab called safety click that select inprivate filtering settings, select automatically block, click OK. This turns it on it will take care of some ads, and helps you to avoid tracking cookies. But it has to be turned on every time you open IE. Or you could follow the link and instructions I posted above to create a short cut for it.

Install the IEPro 7 I posted the link to above it has a built in blocker.

As I said if you only have IE on this computer you seriously need to install another browser because when IE decides to break you will have no way to get back online to get help. Even if you never use it you want to have it there.

I posted links on the other thread for using what is built in on IE, look at those links please, they apply to IE8 also and have step by step instructions with pictures.

I did install IEPro7 but I don't have the any idea what it's for or how to use it. I have google chrome and also firefox on my pc as backup. I don't know much about firefox and found it hard to use last time I tryed it.

Look here at the link below it tells you exactly how to use the adblock features built in to the IE7Pro add on that you installed. It does
a variety of types of blocking.
If you go back to the link above that you got the IE7PRO from you can click on each of the various things that it list that it does and you can see the tutorials for how to use each one of those. It really has a lot of good features.

ok, I did most of it. I got firefox, adblock for it. I still need it for IE 8 though. I did those other things but not sure why I need it nor know how to use it. I told you I was a dummy in computers. I have ProgSense
?(IE7PRO)? and I don't know why. I still have lots of spam in yahoo box I don't know how to control. anyting else?

No none of these will affect spam in email that is totally different.

If you have firefox with ad block plus you need to add the easylist subscription to it right click on the red stop sign on your browser that has ABP on it choose preferences, filter subscription, add filter, check easylist subscription ok.
I think if you keep using firefox you will be surprised how much you like it in a little while. You can have it put all your favorite, bookmarks from IE into firefox really easy, will not affect your IE.

I don't see a stop sign in firefox. When I click tools the adblock plus is written there but it doesn't do much. I notice in one of the lists it say it expires in 5 days, what this all about???? Easy list is writtine in there but I can't do anything with it either (I'm so confused)
