Can I have a Silgranit sink and an under the sink trash pullout?
Comments (4)Here is my Rev-a-Shelf trash pullout under my silgranit sink. I thought we had measured to perfection but the plastic waste basket was just a tad too tall and hit the sink. Rather than buying a different wastebasket , I just cut about 1/4 to a 1/2 inch off the top of the wastebasket. Fits like a champ now! My sink is the 1--3/4 Performa Medium. I put the pullout under the larger side. I have a garbage disposal under the smaller basin....See MoreA few questions! Sink Grid, Garbage Disposal/Pullout, Tapmaster
Comments (6)My 2 cents :-) 1. I donÂt have sink grids but would like to. When I drain a pot, it would be nice to have the colander off the bottom of the sink. I also think it would help prevent scratches. 2. Always had a garbage disposal and would not want to be without a powerful one. My last house had a single basin sink, but this one has a double and the disposal is only on one side. I sure wish it was on both sides! 3. My last house was designed with two 15" trash pullouts under the sink. Because it was designed that way, it was easy to install the pipes out of the way. We had the disposal in the middle of the sink  no problem. IMO, trash belongs under the sink. I know that not everyone agrees with me but it has always had me scratching my head wondering why. I did not want to give up base cabinet space for trash and there is plenty of space below the sink that would otherwise be wasted. The house we moved to can not accommodate the trash under the sink because of the pipes  but when we remodel, we will remedy this. Also  my cans were the tall kitchen trash cans you can buy at Target. They could be removed and placed anywhere in the kitchen that I needed them to be. So if I had someone helping me peel potatoes for example, I simply moved the trash can to the chair where that person was sitting. I really think this is the *best* setup. There is also plenty of room for the other under sink items such as gloves, sponges, dishwasher & dish soaps, etc. And, all of these things are easy to access because they are in pullouts. 4. We did undermount and will probably do that again for the reasons you gave. 5. I donÂt have plugmold so it is possible that I would not like it but I doubt it. You say you can see it? I find that hard to believe if you have a light rail and light  which I would have. There are many times that I would like to use an appliance in a particular location but canÂt because of where the plug is located. Plugmold would be wonderful IMO. As discussed here before, if you know you will have appliances always plugged in and you know where those appliances will live, the best of both worlds would be to put a regular plug at that location. 6. I donÂt have a Tapmaster and though I am seriously intrigued, IÂm not sure we will ever get one. IÂve watched how I do things and it is not a problem for me to turn the faucet on with hands full of gunk  I have the lever type faucet. I can see where turn knobs might be a problem....See MoreGarbage can under sink cabinet
Comments (9)Currently, we have the garbage under the sink. Our new kitchen will also have the garbage under the sink. We did not ask for fancy pull out with garbage can. We just have a pullout sink base. We will organize the "large" area as we see fit. All the built in garbage pull outs wasted too much space for us. This is how we clean up. One person works at the sink. The other person pulls out the garbage can from the sink cabinet and uses it to catch crumbs from countertops, throw everything into it etc. The garbage can is much more functional when it is mobile with the counter clean up person. We don't put any "wet" or "gross" garbage in there because they all go into the compost. The compost will also go under the sink and will get put on the counter while working. Then put away when done. I actually find that the pull out systems are not as functional as the cans/receptacles on the counter as I need them. (ease of access plus preventing the floor and cabinets getting dirty) The handles on the garbage pullouts and trash pullout bins (trash missing the bin) always look kind of gross when I am at other people's home with these arrangements. You just have to make sure you have a place to put the receptacles you are done with it on the counter. I explored the idea of having a hole cut out for compost/garbage and I could not accept the esthetics of it! Not only that, the pull out system dedicates way too much valuable space to the garbage when they can be better suited for storing bowls and such, IMHO. In our current system, the garbage is the least full. Recycle fills the quickest, then compost, then garbage. We do not have a disposal because almost all wet/yucky stuff goes into the compost....See MoreShow me your garbage pullout under a farm/apron sink?
Comments (0)Okay, I'm getting a bit stressed now as the cab ordering looms. Can anyone show me their garbage pull out under an apron or farm sink? How small of a can is no longer useful? Do I bite the bullet and steal 12" or 15" from my 30" drawer base or shrink the DW to 18" and steal 6" from the DB? Or, is a can under a farm sink just fine and dandy even if it needs taking out more often?...See Moresuzanne_sl
