I don't have a picture but I've had my garbage can under my sink on the left side for 30+ years and it's suited me perfectly. I don't have an island which is where lots have their trash pullouts. My DW is also immediately to the left of my sink cabinet so it works well with the placement of the garbage can.

Do you mean a trash pull out or just a garbage can? I have a garbage can under my sink, which is what I've always had. It's convenient and is a place that I also usually put my cleaning supplies so it all works out well. I don't have a pull out though so if you're asking about that, I'm not really sure how that would work.

I will have a pullout under one side of my 36 inch sink cabinet. But I am also planning on a sink with an offset drain, and will have a second double trash pullout located elsewhere.

A pullout will work on one side of a large cabinet if you get the bottom mount type, and if your sink & garbage disposal will leave enough clearance. Right now I have our main trash under a double sink and due to plumbing, only a very small can will fit. Not nearly large enough for our main trash.

We turned the 2 doors of the sink cabinet into 2 pullouts. Each one holds a tall kitchen trash can  one for trash and the other for recycle. There is still plenty of room for all the normal under sink stuff like gloves, sponges, dish soap, dishwasher soap, etc. Our disposal is dead center, so DH was able to route the pipes so they would not interfere. IMO, this is the *best* setup I can imagine. I know lots of folks here love their trash pullouts in their base cabinets, but I just donÂt see the purpose of giving up all that space when it is available under the sink.

I too didn't have room to designate a separate cabinet too trash so my trash is under the sink as well. I have a pull-out one one side of my sink base cabinet for the trash. The other side has a standard door and contains my cleaning products. It might get converted to a pull-out too. Not sure yet. I have a prep sink that I also put another pull-out trash under too. Both trash cans are a bit smaller than what I had before but with 2 of them, so, far it is working great.

My parents have had the trashcan under their kitchen sink in various configurations -- in the cabinet, hanging on the door -- & I've got to say it's all pretty irritating. Less so if you've only got one person in there at a time, especially when it comes time to clean up, & can avoid the "get away from that sink so I can throw this in the trash" dance. Either way some kind of trash pullout underneath would be the way to go if you can. Much tidier.

Currently, we have the garbage under the sink. Our new kitchen will also have the garbage under the sink. We did not ask for fancy pull out with garbage can. We just have a pullout sink base. We will organize the "large" area as we see fit. All the built in garbage pull outs wasted too much space for us.

This is how we clean up. One person works at the sink. The other person pulls out the garbage can from the sink cabinet and uses it to catch crumbs from countertops, throw everything into it etc. The garbage can is much more functional when it is mobile with the counter clean up person. We don't put any "wet" or "gross" garbage in there because they all go into the compost. The compost will also go under the sink and will get put on the counter while working. Then put away when done.

I actually find that the pull out systems are not as functional as the cans/receptacles on the counter as I need them. (ease of access plus preventing the floor and cabinets getting dirty) The handles on the garbage pullouts and trash pullout bins (trash missing the bin) always look kind of gross when I am at other people's home with these arrangements.

You just have to make sure you have a place to put the receptacles you are done with it on the counter. I explored the idea of having a hole cut out for compost/garbage and I could not accept the esthetics of it!

Not only that, the pull out system dedicates way too much valuable space to the garbage when they can be better suited for storing bowls and such, IMHO.

In our current system, the garbage is the least full. Recycle fills the quickest, then compost, then garbage. We do not have a disposal because almost all wet/yucky stuff goes into the compost.

We have 2 pull-outs under the sink, and we put garbage/recycling/compost in them as well. This has worked out well for us since we mostly cook together and have separate work zones.
