Need help figuring how to find unique door hardware

I need help! I'm really sick of the hardware on my front doors. The problem is that the original hardware is set really close to each other and I'm reluctant to buy new doors, as I imagine these might be custom (they are tall skinny double doors with 4 hinges on each side).

The deadbolt is less than 2 inches from the doorknob!

I haven't seen this sort of hardware anywhere but I admittedly have only checked out the big box hardware stores. I checked out Baldwin's collection on the web, but the deadbolt is much farther from the doorknob. I also think I'd prefer a lever, but at this point, I'll take a doorknob rather than have to buy a new set of double doors.

Oops, I should have added that the existing set is by Weslock. I just don't like many of the options on their site. Plus, I'm intrigued by the idea of installing a keyless pad so my kids and housecleaners can get in easily.

Kwikset, Schlage, Arrow, Yale all should have exactly what your looking for. This is a very common setup still today.

I have almost what you describe, with a couple differences... So I saw the Houzz pics and painted my exterior doors black. I have both french with multi-lite and then regular panel exterior doors. They look AMAZING in black. ...or looked amazing. Gawd does the black get dirty FAST. And is crazy difficult to keep clean unless you clean it regularly. I originally opted for oil-rubbed bronze, which does look nice with the black (the bronzing shows up), but in the end preferred the brushed after a couple of months. Ended up swapping all over to brushed save for the front door which is mahogany and still bronze. Interior door handles are all brushed. It looked fine when they didn't match the bronze of the exterior doors, but I like them more matching now to be honest. Interior doors, after the joys of those black exterior doors, are all now a dark grey. WAY easier to keep the appearance of being clean, but still a very sexy look. I mixed multi-lite french with 3-panel mission doors and they look great. Even one single lite frosted inside the house that matches beautifully. But honestly, black in a house is the devil. I did black painted stairs too and it's AWFUL. Love Love Love the look (and it's to die for), but the mess. Ugh. Scared about the day we have kids and I have to clean all that dark panelling with them running around...

If you use lisa_a's with 2 entrances to the pantry it may just vent itself easily as I'd imagine the pocket entry door to it from the garage may stay open or ajar frequently. You could possibly fit it in the bump back to match the entrance stairs. Fridges in garages are pretty common around here but we have more issues with freezing temps than overly hot. Otherwise I'd put it in that spot in the garage where the writing says small appliances for inside the kitchen. That's not far of a walk at all.

Love the pics everyone is sending with beautiful coloured doors. Any magazine pic I see with a nice bold coloured door, shows the door being protected from the elements. I am in my mid 60’s…hope to stay in my house for awhile yet, but don’t want to have to redo the door or entrance again after this next time. Help me to figure out what do do. If I was going with a paler colour that would last longer without fading, what would everyone suggest that would work with the house. I am not redoing any window frames, so the entrance framing would remain white, but put a colour on the door? Is there a MCM light green colour that would work and that would go with the roofing. I have to change the roofing next year or the following but would most likely go a similar green again? I do need some privacy in the windows and the doors as they see through a walkway where the transom is from the bedrooms to the living and kitchen areas, and the sidelights show that same area and the family room downstairs. I am really trying to get this right for myself, and for the next person wishing to own my home. As you all know, this is quite costly so really appreciate all your help to figure it all out. Thanks

Some thoughts: --Move sofa to face fireplace to create a walkway into the home. Place sofa far enough back so you don't have to crane your neck to watch TV placed over fireplace. (I rarely suggest that, but that could solve your entryway problem.) --Bring angled chairs in closer to sofa to create conversational grouping with front feet of all pieces on the rug. To make entryway more functional, place a narrow sofa table/console behind sofa. --Get sturdy nesting coffee tables that can be used as side table next to sofa. Pull out when guests come. --LooK for baskets for bottom two shelves of your Dad's bookcase and put kids' toys there. --Put your painting above your blue console.

Thanks for replying, millworkman. I didn't realize it was that common. I guess it's just my quick scan of the big box shelves and the Baldwin website didn't come up with any "one unit" sets like my existing one.

Am I wrong in assuming something like this set from Schlage will NOT fit? You can't get them close enough, right? I would love something like this!

What you have is classic and beautifully traditional--and VERY cutting edge stylish again. Brass is back. What you're contemplating is overdone and not nearly as nice as what you have. And much lower quality as well.

Hi hollysprings,

I appreciate your feedback but what you can't see in the photos are the polished brass door knobs on the inside (hideously shiny yet scratched so the mirror image sheen looks quite distorted) and the green oxidation on the outside handles. It's long past time to replace these.

Not sure what you are referring to as overdone from the Schlage photo: the nickel color (which DH insists on--he is strongly opposed to all other colors), the style of the handle set itself, or something else? My priority in terms of style is simply something that isn't polished brass (matte tones of nickel/brass/etc. would all work for me but see note above re: picky DH). Nothing too modern either, since it wouldn't suit the house architecture, but other than that, I'm not that picky. Practically speaking, I really want the keyless entry and a lever handle.

You have what is called an "interconected lock" ,meaning the deadbolt is connected the the main body. Try a real lumberyard or a good hardware store they will be able to help you very easily.

What about spray painting the hardware?

If you like it - great! If not, you are back to where you are now, trying to replace it.
