1953 red brick rambler - how to spruce up outside

My 50s red brick rambler is in need of sprucing up. It's very dated (not that there's anything wrong with that) and I'd like some suggestion in a few areas. First, the roof tile is a medium greyish color and the trim and siding on ends are a light green (the front door is a disastorous blue but that's another story). The brick facade ends at the floor level leaving several feet of concrete in view in the front. Finally there is no cover over the slate front porch leaving weather problems when it's wet or icey.

I'd like to bring the color scheme to something more updated, that is not try to make it something it isn't but bring the trim and siding color back into accenting the house. Several houses in the area use shutters but i'm not overly sold on that idea. should i go with a cheesy metal cover over the porch? or go further with a larger porch and cover. finally, i'll take suggestions but i'm guessing i should just use landscaping on the concrete below the brick or learn to live with it.

The inside is getting a big update throughtout but we made the decision not to affect the footprint of the house--not move up or out. Thoughts?

Thanks.
