I'd like your opinion on my chair makeover
Comments (35)Yesterday, I made a quick stop at Home Depot and came up with nothing to use as a finial. Today, I went to a woodworker's store not too far from where we live and tried the smallest wood finial they had. It was 2" tall, almost like a younger cousin of the ones I removed. I tried it on the chair and it seemed too thin. Not the look I'm going for. Then I found something there called screw hole buttons. I did also look on line, but again, the selection in something smaller was very limited. Comparing the size of what I can find on line to what I tried in the store, I think they're all going to be too 'wimpy'. Ideally, the finial would be about 1" - 1 1/4" wide and about the same measurement in the height. I'm not sure they exist. At this point, my plan is to plug the hole with the wood screw hole buttons and get on to painting the chairs. I figure since I'm going to paint the chairs, I can always change out the buttons to some type of finial if I EVER find something appropriate. So........now I'm going to need a little advice on painting the chairs, but for that I will start a new thread. Thanks again, EVERYONE, for all your responses!...See MorePlease give me your opinions on decor!
Comments (44)KSWL, I agree with a lot of your observations. I think we both see it as a more traditional, classy room and some of the changes lean too trendy, or as you call it not appropriate. I was going to suggest using the lamps as the art on that wall and choosing carefully, either something traditional or transitional. But she is trying to "update" the bedroom by removing the large mirror. I have a dresser and large mirror in a guest BR and have thought of doing the same. I suggested moving the lamps to the dresser because they DID look buffet-ish to me. I wondered if it would look wrong in the bedroom, but now I think "Why not put them on a dresser?" Someone came up with the idea of putting tall lamps on a buffet and that style was adopted, but it doesn't really make a lot of functional sense. To me the engineering prints aren't bedroomy. Who are those people and what are they doing in my bedroom?? J/K, I know it's just an example. The question for me is how do you update traditional without getting trendy, especially when you're purchasing expensive items like lighting and art that you'd like to keep for at least 10 years....See MorePlease give me your opinion...
Comments (11)Are you sure it's just the paint? When you say the neutrals are "boring" with the floors, perhaps wall art, rugs, accessories "etc" could bring it all up a notch? Paint does a lot for a home but it's not going to do it all by itself. The final effect comes from the finishing touches, textures et al. Lighting is also paramount in how a color shows and in creating a certain mood. Lamps are the workhorses...they're one of the most important ingredients in creating an inviting, warm, cozy...and cheerful room. In a good sized room I think at least 4 lamps is about right. Love to see some pix vs shooting in the dark lol. And yes...I'd probably say it's too much green...too many cool colors DO start to wear on most people I think. I had a pale creamy yellow (BM 206...maybe called Golden Straw now?) painted throughout my foyer and hallways in my last home. It was a wonderful color in all light and was adjacent to my Baby Turtle LR and watermelon DR. Very easy color to work with...worked well with the beige stair runner and other tones as well. BTW, this was a north facing foyer so "cheerful" was hard to get...especially on the one "devil wall" as I call them. I originally tried a pale beige but it was just went too taupey and depressing. I just noticed in the day shot the original green I tried in the LR...too blueish at the north end of the room. That's when I found the Turtle...boy, did that help. Pix?...See MoreNew Rug - Need Your Opinions Please
Comments (88)Thank you for looking for me, Turquoise, I really appreciate that. When I asked my husband's opinion he looked at it and said "It's a rug". Okay....After that I read the reviews and quite a few people said the main color is not rust but rather a cranberry or burgundy red, and there were also complaints about the rug fraying and the loops pulling up. It's cheaper than the rug we're getting, and they've apparently lowered the price quite a bit, perhaps because of the quality issues. I simply cannot return a FOURTH rug, so we're going to have to like it. When I compare this rug to the photo of the one we had, that one looks all too red, and I'm really hoping the one I'm waiting for is more muted. We shall see........See Morebac717
