More Surgery Today-Wish Me Luck

I had my successful kidney transplant in January. I've been doing great since. I feel fantastic, lots of energy,I've lost 15 pounds. My monthly bloodwork has been good, not perfect but "stable" and the doctors are pleased. But today I'm going in to have my dialysis "fistula" closed off. That's the vein in my left arm where they stuck the dialysis needles for four and a half years. It is horribly swollen, inside are four aneurysms, essentially where the vein has actually over stretched and formed a bulge. . It hurts somewhat and is terribly ugly and gross. The vascular surgeon says it will be a "challenge" but he's confident I'll be able to wear tank tops later this summer. It was 97 degrees yesterday, so I'm looking forward to being fistula-free. Wish me and my surgeon all the best! I'll post later, when it's over, maybe a couple of days.

Jannie, I wish you the very best of luck. What a success story you are! I want you to be able to wear the tank tops that you so badly want to wear.

Hope for the best but plan for the worst, gal. IF you end up having to have surgery, demand enough time to do some preparing. Stock your fridge and pantry with easy to fix stuff....try to be as healthy as possible. Do a little cooking ahead of time so that you have some comfort food ready to pull out of the freezer. Get some food from those restaurants you frequent! Getting dressed and undressed will be a PITA, as you already know....so think about that. Easy to pull on robes, etc. will be friendly to you. I've had very debilitating shoulder pain, too. Nothing like yours, mine responded to PT. But I've had months when I could not do things like hook or unhook a bra, do my hair, etc. I'm also left handed, and we seem to be MUCH more adaptable to using our right hand than righties are able to. Who's going to stay with you for a few days? You might be fine on your own, though uncomfortable, after just a couple of days. I'm sure that your son and grandson will be helpful. If I lived closer, I'd be over there in a minute. All my best to you.

It's all over (for now). They gave me iv sedation, stuck a catheter in my arm and went to work. Found a narrowing around my shoulder, got it fixed to 9 centimeters but found a clot so they stopped, patched me up and sent me home. They'll go back in next Thursday, get out the clot, and restretch the opening to 12 cm. Well, I'm comfortable and it's all okay to resume regular dialysis tomorrow. Yes, it's very similar to angioplasty, which my husband had on his heart afew years ago. Thanks everyone for your good wishes and prayers! I love everyone on Kitchen Table. You all are the greatest!

My mom and dad both get on those, and it is hilarious. My father can't see worth a darn, and my mother just plain old doesn't pay attention. They take out displays, and keep running us over ROFL. Now we walk WAY far away from them and pretend we don't know who they are ;). Actually, they are a great help for people who have trouble getting around (it is amazing how exhausting it is to walk and shop with a bad back, I wish they had been as common when I was in so much pain back then). They are easier to drive than they look. Have fun! Dances.

I was almost afraid to open this post--said a quick prayer that the kidney was fine. I'm relieved that the kidney is doing its job, and will definitely say a prayer that this surgery goes well. Please keep us posted. Hugs!

Oh, best of luck to you, Jannie. I haven't been able to wear tank tops in many years due to flabby arms, so I hope you get to do that.
