What Has Everyone Been Doing This Week

Trying to get out and work in the garden a lot of the days this week, have had rain though and that has slowed us down. We started picking black raspberries but have not gotten to pick very many. A couple days the girls and I did some shopping and we have done a lot of having fun with Alyssa. She is now 28 months old. We came in to fix lunch yesterday and I told her, I have to sit down a little bit as I have a belly ache. She led me to my recliner and said to me, "Grandma, what are we going to do with you!" Always saying funny things. She helped me shuck sweet corn and put Miracle Whip on our ham and cheese sandwiches for our lunch. This morning I am headed out back to assist Cheryl with the garden and then pick berries in the woods. We will also start planning what we will have for our Fourth of July. What have you all been doing this week. I hope you have a terrific day.

Been kind of a quiet week this week. Kind of nice for a change. The grandkids came for awhile yesterday. Always love seeing them. Today we are going to a wedding of a girl I used to babysit for many years ago. A young man and his wife I used to babysit for just had their first baby. Love still being able to see them. Tells me I am getting older.

I cannot believe your gd is over 2. It seems like just yesterday she was born. Sounds like a wonderful little one and yes you never know what they will say and when--like mine--in church--I have to go potty. Everyone just smiles.
Great weather here and our garden is loaded with weeds due to the rain that would not stop for awhile and the chicken fertilizer my son in law added. I have been out every day to pull them out. Birds love it as there is so many worms for the babies. Our garden is almost a month behind this year. DD did get some radishes but nothing else.

OOPS...got behind on this thread. Peggy, I am still working on my spreadsheets and making labels in preparation to then plant, plant, plant without having to stop and make more labels. I have targeted Thanksgiving for having all bulbs, or nearly all the important bulbs planted. I'm not as concerned about the few NO ID daffs I have and the 250 or so specie tulips and muscari. I can sneak them in easily anywhere anytime before a good ground freeze. You wear me out with everything you have going so many evenings? Has all of the exercising given you more energy? Linda, Congratulations on your very first grand baby. I'm sure he caused a lot of excitement for everyone and hope he is doing great. Sorry to hear of your Mom's fall, but glad it was nothing serious. Possibly it served as a good warning to try and be very careful. She sure seems to be doing well for her age and please tell her I am looking forward to her making it to the next swap...hear? Doris, I'm sure the daffs your boss got will not to too pink. I'm going to guess that they were likely ordered from Breck's. If so, their pics are touched up and are not a good depiction of their true colors. Here is Breck's Pink Collection (not!) Here are some pics that better show their true colors Chromacolor at Daffseek Romance at Daffseek Pink Charm at Daffseek In attending some local Daffodil Shows, I did see many daffs that had a very pretty pink color to them...a true soft pink, nothing peachy about it. Another thing too, is that a daffs color changes as the bloom matures. A bloom that emerges as a yellowy peach can turn its true color of being more pink as it matures. The pic below is Salome on the left and Mrs. R. O. Backhouse on the right. The pic below was taken one day later (and some blooms were added), but you can seed how they have 'pinked up' a good bit. Neither are ones I would call one of the truer pinks though compared to what I have seen at shows. Peggy, your garden club lunch and then work sounds like a lot of fun. I hope it does well and you get us some pics next year. Sue...off to hopefully finish up pretty well on labels today.

Rosefolly, I'm so sorry I didn't get to meet you! I volunteer in the Rose Hotel, and we were pretty busy, but I still would love to meet the GW people who come to the cemetery. I eat raw spinach all the time and have no problem with calcium oxalate. It's a great, healthy food! I stir-fried 2 whole bags of spinach and baby greens that I had in the frig when the spinach scare started. Eating it cooked is not a problem. The weird thing is, I hadn't purchased bagged spinach for at least 9 months, and just bought a bag 2 days before the scare! When I was in south China they cooked all fresh-grown lettuces and leaf plants because of E-coli. It was actually very tasty, so I do that often now.

Hi Marilyn Sue! I've worked a few days..working one more, tomorrow. Tuesday we sent our exchange student to Washington D.C. and then he went home to Turkey. I still haven't cleaned his room up. I was up nearly 30 hours the day before and that day because I had to work an weird evening shift the day before he left for the airport. I took a short nap in the afternoon because I couldn't stay awake any longer.

Oh, no...people are shooting off fireworks. D@mn, I thought they would know by now they weren't supposed to do that in town anymore.

Lauren is in Chicago till tomorrow with a friend. She got to go to China town today. I'm so jealous. So, had the house to myself for the last few days.

So, now going to hope they quit with the fireworks so I don't have to call the police and can sleep.

I had a wonderful two days at my brothers home on the Cape. We are six girls and one boy in our family and we decided to have a siblings only sleepover. It was beyond wonderful!! We came from all over and laughed, talked, ate, prayed, wept a bit for lost ones, then started the cycle all over. It's two days I will never forget. My younger sister dreamed it up. It's one thing to be with family and spouses but, if you can ever get your sibs alone and do this, the result is sooo rewarding. Today is another family party for my sister who is visiting from the south along with all her family so more fun. It's been a great week.

It's been a very hot, humid and rainy week. Because of that the weeds came up with a vengeance and I spent 5 hours weeding yesterday.

We picked berries this morning! They are nice and red, but also muddy, and a lot are rotting on the vines.
