September quilting goals behind us! On to October!

Can't find the original posting for September. But, I finished all my goals! My September goal was to finish my August goals:

1. Finish FMQ on the Chubby Chicks and ship it to Germany. DONE

2. Get kaleidoscope quilt top together and off the design wall. DONE

3. Gather retreat project - have one and fabric is ready but who knows what I'll find at Mary Jo's on the way.

4. Find a new hand work project. DONE But problem is it's almost done and then I'll have to find something else. Sigh.

Ooooooo, that's pretty! Very good job! My October goal is to stop bending needles every five minutes. They're the same needles, I didn't used to bend them, but I guess I've gotten super powers over the summer.

Oh Linda, That is beautiful! Is that a stack-n-whack? or did you fussy cut those beautiful blocks?

Somehow September came & went ... and not much got finished!
1. Graduation quilt - PIECED - now need to sandwich
2. one UFO - Sandwiched & started quilting - FINISH & make prairie points
3. Finish "round" for round-robin quilt & get ready to mail - got fabrics & design decided.
4. Try to get a jump on the last of 2010 BD blocks & 2011 early BD blocks.

Wow! Can you believe it is already the 20th of the month?! I have the latest scrappy ready for binding and I really like how the quilting looks from the back....can't see it so much from the front. Will get a picture after it's completed. Have not done anything more with the Bears Paw but think I'll do Flying Geese for the border when I get to that part. Doesn't look like I even listed the Split 9-Patch that's on the design wall with a few of the blocks sewn together. Bev2009, How'd your company like your wallhanging? Do we get to see a picture of it hanging on your wall? Good luck to everyone.....whether getting ready for retreat, going to Hawaii or just relaxing around your house getting ready for the leaves to change. Although, I think that's already happening in some parts of our world. Please keep Katie in prayer. She has a few new spots as she hasn't been able to do any treatments because her blood was low so they gave her a transfusion a couple days ago. While she was waiting at the hospital, she passed out. Luckily, her husband was close enough to catch her as she went down. It's a real sad situation. SharonG/FL

Beth, So far, I don't see anything 'wonky' about this. I don't think I've ever seen Prairie Points that weren't used at the edges of a quilt, so this sounds interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing this completed. FWIW, I used seersucker as a backing on my now 26 year old DGS's baby quilt. It was washed almost weekly for the first 6-8 years with no problems, and used sporadically after that. A few years ago, my DD told me that as a teenager and when he still lived at home, he would get it out when he didn't feel well and wrap up in it. Yes, he does have a larger quilt, but this is the one that comforts him the most. Anyway, that seersucker fabric stayed the course. lol

Gosh, Sharon, do you ever keep anything?? I'm trying to think how many I've finished this year, certainly not close to what you've done. I'm working on machine quilting one, and I think I've done 3 more plus a small one for my dog. Her old quilt was getting pretty wore out, plus I had put fleece on the back (no batting) but her hair stuck in it really bad, so this new one I made I put the fleece inside as a batting and used regular cotton on the back, doesn't catch the hair like the old one. She's so funny, her quilt is on the opposite side of the couch from where I always go. If I'm not on the couch and my couch quilt is on the seat cushions, she will get on that, but if I'm already on the couch we make sure her quilt is spread out for her at the other end. As soon as it's ready she looks around at us to make sure we are settled and she then jumps right up on it and turns in for the night. She knows it's hers. I would have probably gotten more done if I hadn't taken the time out to do the sofa slipcovers and accent pillows, but that was priority one for me.

I may have to get some fabric and let you help me with one at camp, that is beautiful!

I'm bringing 15 UFOs to camp. My October goals will be to get them all put together.

Can't believe I'm setting goals - that's not me! But I started piecing some block components that I had started years ago, had put away and forgot. I've got the top all pieced and am hand-quilting it. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to clean up the sewing room after finishing a quilt. I found these pieces and was worried that I wouldn't be able to find any material to match. Well, I happened to go back and look through one bin that I hadn't gone through. The material was there, and enough to expand the quilt. This is a 2 color quilt - Amish style - black and burgundy. What I assumed was cotton isn't, it's linen. It's got a nubbier, heavier weave but very study and heavy. (My husband found it in a dumpster in back of a table linen factory). So since it's so heavy, I went and bought wide flannel and backed it with it, leaving out the inner batting. I am using cotton crochet thread to quilt it - I wanted that heavy thread look like they used to use way back. I hope to get it done, this has turned out to be a real honey so far, since I love vintage-look quilts and especially the simplicity of the Amish style - no prints, just solid fabrics.

I finished the nativity quilt in Sept. It's not really wonky...I couldn't get it to hang straight on the bifold door!

For October, I have 3 more tops ready to quilt. One is a wall hanging I can hopefully finish this weekend. The other 2 are bed-size. Maybe I can finish them this month, too!

ritaweeda: The 2-color sounds wonderful, I hope you post pics when you get it done, I'd love to see.

msmeow: I have thought of similar projects, but wasn't sure how it would look. Now I see they turn out beautiful. TFS.

I have problems setting goals so will just hope I finish this baby quilt I am working on and then there is always "Sylvia's Bridal Quilt" which is my life's goal.
Ladies, those are lovily quilts--different but both beautiful. TFS and good luck meeting your goals. Jayne

I think ya'lls quilts are really beautiful.

What does UFO and TFS stand for?

Last week I finished my niece's Christmas present a baby-doll quilt and matching pillow. For the month of October I want to get as many canning jar applique blocks finished as I can. Have 3 partially done out of 20 so far. Am doing the appliqueing by hand so is slow go. Just learned how to applique by hand this summer so am still learning as I go. Have a great weekend. I'm off to applique some more.

I got precious little time in the quilting room most of the summer. Last month, maybe three hours total. LOL. But this month I am tying up loose ends on all fronts and jsut getting them off my back and mind. I went up to the sewing room this morning and have been working on a wonderful broken plate quilt my daughter started making for me when she was eighteen. There is a long story behind it I have told before, but my DD is forty one now, and the quilt came back to me 'almost done'. I am putting the binding on it now and I keep sewing the binding strips wrong, LOLOL. I've done five seams over so far so put it away until after lunch. Then I am going back up there, finish sewing it on and pinning it to hand sew the binding down in back and bringing it downstairs so it'll be handy to finish the hand-work.

I can't wait to get it soaked (there is dirt on it all the way from England, lol) and hung in the sun and on the daybed. It makes me smile each time I look at it. It was her first attempt at quilting, and she is embarrased by the work, but it's better than my best attempt. I'll use it with pride.
