I've always been a person to drink a lot of water. Varies though. Some days probably a pint, sometimes I might be closing in on a gallon it seems. I drink water with meals and I carry that ever-feared bottled water with me when I'm out and about to quench my thirst and save some money if I stop for something to eat. And I drink water as I take my vitamins or if I take aspirin or something. Whenever it's hot and humid I tend to make sure I drink water regularly, even a sip or two an hour, to keep from dehydrating. I got dehydrated a few years back and that is one STRANGE feeling, and one I'd rather not experience again.

I always keep a half gallon of ice water in the refrigerator and drink at least that much every day. That jar gets filled up every night before I go to bed. If I have been working up a sweat, then I will drink more. It is extemely important to keep hydrated. And a plus is that it is good for your complexion. (at least that's what my doctor says).

Water... maybe 20 oz. a day. Liquids in general (including water) about 2 gallons. I drink a lot (pee alot too)... and yes, there is probably something wrong with me.

I am suppose to be drinking 6-8 glasses of water each day because of my recently discovered kidney stones. I am trying, but it is very hard for me to drink that much. Of course the more I drink, the more I pee. Which can also be a problem because I have to find a restroom fast when I have to go.

Before I only drank coffee at breakfast, maybe something with lunch then a glass with dinner, usually water. If I drink too much liquids it makes me nauseous. I told that to the Urologist and he looked at me strangely like I was crazy.

honestly i was drinking 3 gallons a day because i rarely drink soda or kool aid etc..but i started having stomach problems so i dropped it to around 2 gallons a day and tummy is just fine. i read somewhere you can literally drown yourself by drinking too much water..and ive always drank a ton of water..go figure

I drink when I am thirsty. That is what the doctor said to do. In the summer I drink a lot because I sweat. In the winter I don't drink much.

clare, you just have to get into the habit...start with a container of water that you carry around or always have by the computer...up the amount a bit every few days...if it's on hand you'll drink...believe me the alternatives are scary...developed kidney problems after having surgery...sent my levels high..but between water, diet, and very expensive pills, i'm maintaining and levels are in normal range...it's taken nearly 2 1/2 years...

I love water! I probably drink at least a half gallon a day, sometimes more. It's always been one of my favorite drinks, meaning I'd rather have water than a cold or hot drink during the day. Water has always been easy for me to drink thank goodness...

Let's see ... every morning at work I fill up a bottle with 48 ounces of cold water. Throughout the day I go into the break room, fill an 8 ounce cup 3/4 of the way with hot water, add a tea bag (I have over 20 different kinds to choose from) and head back to my office. Once there, the tea has steeped so I add enough cold water to fill the rest of the cup to cool it down some. By the end of the day my 48 ounces of water is gone along with all the water I steeped my tea in. I've never added it up but I think I drink a lot of water. Weekends I go through a gallon of ice tea. Seldom drink plain water.

I've never kept a tally before. I drink when I am thirsty, it's a glass of apple juice in the morning and water throughout the day. I don't drink anything else (no pop, no coffee, etc).

The thing about drinking 8 glasses of water a day is passe. You should drink when you are thirsty.

I add Crystal Light to a pitcher of water and drink that. I try to be creative so I will drink plenty of water.
As the above poster writes, if you are thirsty you are already dehydrated. Drinking lots of water helps with weight loss among other things.

Water is the only cold thing I drink. But I'm learning to make iced tea now, thanks to you guys.

Let's see, I have a large 1 litre stainless steel water bottle that holds 2 bottles of water. (1 bottle of water is 500 grams or 2 cups).
I refill my bottle about 4 times a day. So I guess I'm drinking 16 cups of water. I don't know how much that is gallon wise....

I have a container of water in my hand all day long. I probably drink at least 1/2 gallon a day.

I was drinking way too much water until my daughter who is a nurse informed me that you can drink too much water. She said not all people should drink the same about and she calculated how much water I should drink. I should drink 3.5 liters a day. I've increased my water consumption significantly. I was drinking FAR too much soda.

So, I've cut my soda down to no more than 24 to 30 ounces a day and have increased my water intake to between 30 and 100 ounces.

Before that? all of that fluid intake would have been soda and coffee.

Hardly any. Usually just to take my meds in the morning. If we're eating out, I'll have water to drink.

I used to drink very little and then heard all about the need to drink at least 10 eight oz glasses of water a day. So I learned to drink that much and even more.

Then my doctor told me all that was a bunch of hooey - drink when you are thirsty, exercising or in the heat and sun. Other than that, don't worry about it, your body will tell you what you need under normal conditions.

I still drink all that water, but only because I got used to it. I no longer think it's doing me all that great good, though.

I actually worry that it overtaxes the kidneys - it is a lot of work to filter all that water every day, year in and year out. Perhaps our body isn't actually supposed to have to work that hard over fluids. But, I don't know.

Most days i drink at least a gallon and somedays more.For instance if i'm working in the yard i tend to drink more.Oncologist told me to drink lots to keep the meds from harming my body.Can't remember if those were his exact words,but close.

I agree with you mylab. When people started all of this water drinking some scientists warned everyone it could do more harm than good.

I do drink a lot, as I said above... but I am drinking because I am thirsty all the time, not because I have some quota to meet. I do not even drive the 5 miles to town without something to drink.

I recall reading an article several years ago where a physician, who was also a "medical historian", got to wondering exactly where the "8 glasses of water" idea originally came from. After doing a lot of researching, as near as he could determine, it started with a paper written by a military doctor during WWII, who apparently based it on nothing "scientific"....more like a pronouncement off the top of of his head.

Funny how some things can take on a life of their own....

You can DIE from drinking too much water. It has happened to people. Too much water throws the electrolyte balance off.

No.

No, you cannot "drown" by drinking too much water. There is no way to consume so much water that your lungs fill up with water. The body does not work that way. If someone dies because their lungs are filled with fluid, it is solely due to a bacterial infection of the lungs, like pneumonia or some other malady - not because they drank a lot of water.

Drinking more water than your body needs won't make your hair shiny like so many people think. Nor will it make your skin look young and your nails grow faster. It won't help you lose weight or get smarter.

One should listen to their body's cues. Drink water when you are thirsty. Drink water shortly before any strenuous activity like swimming or Yoga where you know you will be sweating to keep the body cool. That water needs to be replaced.

Drinking water that has caffeine added to it (iced tea/coffee) in an attempt to rehydrate, sort of defeats the purpose. Caffeine is a diuretic and causes the body to rid itself of the water and actually can cause dehydration no matter how many gallons of ice tea are drank. This is the same reason that a person can die of thirst on a life raft in the middle of the ocean. People scratch their heads and wonder in amazement how someone could die of thirst in the middle of the ocean. >>Its because the ocean is salty.I can't tell you how many times I've seen people dump salt on their food because in their mind, they think that since the salt causes them to drink more water, that they are "doing the body good".

A guy in my neighborhood died from drinking too much water.

Here is a fairly recent news story about the woman who drank too much water in a contest and died immediately afterward. The radio station got sued because the station KNEW that the stunt was dangerous. A woman who identified herself as a nurse called in live, on the show and said the contest should stop because someone could die. The DJ laughed and hung up on her.

I drink 3-4 Nalgene bottles a day. Each one 32 ounces, and I fill it to the brim. So, I drink at least 128 ounces a day. I'm thirsty! The more water I drink, the more I am able to drink.

I'm not going to die from drinking too much water...nor am I going to die from drinking from my water from my bottle because they are BPA free.

something to consider. If you are actually thirsty all the time, remember that this one of several signs of diabetes.
