How should I trim out front door?

Here's a photo of our foyer, looking towards the front door. It's a 2-story open foyer with a window above the front door. There are identical doorways on either side that go into the dining room and the living room. I trimmed out both doorways as shown (please excuse the remodeling debris).

Now I need to trim out the front door. Should I do crossheads/pilasters similar to the doorways? Or will that be too much repetition in the same space, and should I opt for something simpler like this (fluted pilasters with rosettes)?

Other options?

Same as the other doorways IMO.

I agree with Johnmari. Give it the same treatment as the doorway to the right. It's your front door, so it should have some importance. It's much more important than a window.

Lars, if I had your beautiful door, I'd have it the same inside and out as well. I don't know if I've ever seen the front of your house, but it looks fantastic with your interior. I love your colors BTW. My front door is white inside and out, as is the trim inside and out. However, I don't think I'd mind seeing a different color temporarily when I open the door. It's kinda like, oh hello, nice to see you. But I don't think I'd want that color all on its own inside my house. Your door is an exception.

Like the pergola over the garage door idea. If built to be sturdy enough to walk on it, then it could serve as a fire escape route should the need ever arise -- certainly hope it never does. You might also consider painting your step rails and side supports the same color as your siding unless you're planning to have a wood finish door and/or a rustic porch and post addition over the entry at a later date, in which case you'd want those additions to have the same wood finish. If you are talking about real wood think about maintenance. We had a stained mahogany door at our previous house. The sun did a number on it and it had to be redone yearly. It was even under a covered porch but the front of the house faced east and the sun still came under the porch and torched half of the door. Went with a painted door in current house and the front faces west and the door still looks good. It is under a porch as well. As beautiful as wood doors are I would not do one again.

Yep, keep it the same design, absolutely. It will flow perfectly that way.

OMG, that is gorgeous. Did you do it yourself? Any tips? Is it wood or mdf? I have a similar layout and the archways currently have no molding whatsoever...this project is definitely on my list.

Well, far be it from me to swim against this riptide! :-) I've ordered another crosshead/pilaster set. metromom, the crosshead and pilasters are Fypon millwork (bought from accentbuildingproducts.com) and the wainscoting was DIY with pocket-screwed MDF and cove molding (photo of WIP below). Given the product size offerings and dimensional needs/limitations, I can't make the door surround much bigger, but I did buy a keystone to go in the middle of the door crosshead to dress it up a bit.
