Hi ro_man and welcome to the forum.
Many colors can work with the Moire Black roof- so you need to decide what YOU like. Personally, i like the light colors, mainly whites but I can see how it could work with darker colors as well.

Any suggestions with trims (Colors/ types), garage doors, soffits, landscaping etc would be appreciated too! What can we do to improve the look and curb appeal while on a budget.

what colors do you like? I have a cream colored colonial with black shutters but am thinking of painting my shutters a very dark green that almost looks black. I have a burgundy door. I love blue/gray with black shutters as well as taupe/brown with black. I've always like the red color with black shutters but understand you want a change. I almost went with a mustard color siding and burgundy shutters.

Hi enailes - we are thinking along the lines of brown/ beige siding w/ black shutters.

Our biggest challenge is picking the Hardie colorplus color since deciding based on just the small pieces of samples is super tough - they all look good/ bad depending on light etc! We narrowed the choices down to (not necesarily in order of prefernce):

a. Sandstone Beige
b. Autumn tan
c. Khaki brown
d. Monterey Taupe

But - I am looking for suggestions! So throw 'em my way ;-)

The taupe/tan color with black shutters sounds nice. A couple of homes around me have that color scheme and the houses always look so sharp and fresh. Some went with the colonial blue on the shutters but I prefer the black. Would love to see pictures when done!

What about Boothbay Blue? But I have to say, I love the color you already have.

With the house sitting back from the road, having a color on the house instead of the beige family just makes it really stand out!

ro man we have very similar homes. Last summer we resided our colonial so this can give you an idea of how brown would look with black shutters. Ours is considerably darker than what you are considering, though. Our roof is a mid tone gray but you can't tell because the sun totally blew the color out in this photo. You said the sun damaged your current siding but it looks as if you'd have a lot of shade like we do with all your trees. I hesitate to suggest a color from your link because the computer makes color look much different than real life - in fact my house looks far more red (on my computer) than it does in real life - it's actually a dark greyed brown! Landscaping will make a HUGE difference and really bring your home to life. What planting zone are you in? I'm only familiar with plants that do well for me (z 5ish - 6, Chicago area) but would be happy to make suggestions if yours is similar.

Hi oakleyok - I am not a big fan of blue and there are 5 houses in our vicinity that are in the grey/ light blue category. The current red is too barn'ish for me!

dlm2000 - your house looks pretty! You are right, landscaping, shutters, fresh paint on the trim & soffits - all this will make things much better.
We are a little north of Boston so maybe the same zone as yours (?). The front of the house is North facing and gets almost no sun - so damage to the siding and roof is on the east and south sides.
I look forward to your suggestions on landscaping - we plan to get there after roof and siding are done!
