steal 2' from dining room?

Hi GWers. I need some advice. We are remodeling the kitchen in a 1983 colonial house we just bought. We plan to live there forever, but just in case we ever sell...is it a mistake to take space from the DR to make the kitchen of my dreams? We want to make the DR 11 by 12'10 (instead of 14'10). We plan to use it as an office/library. It has an opening to the kitchen and a large opening to the good sized LR, where we may put french doors. A table in the area between the kitchen and family room will work nicely as our informal dining room. What are your thoughts?

(I am posting this on Kitchen forum also, but I think they'll all vote for the extra kitchen room:)
