Stainless steel counter w/ induction cooktop?

We've settled on the products we want (36" gagganau cooktop and a 15" Miele wok burner). Both require cutouts in a counter to inset the countertops.

We're going to place these items in an existing kitchen equipped with a 60" open burner Viking cooktop with controls on front. There is existing granite on the backsplash and both sides of it.

Our problem is that we need a countertop for hole created by removing the Viking. Clearly, we'll never match the surrounding granite, either the color or grain.

So, we are considering stainless steel (we don't want wood).

So, there are lots of people who have either:

1) Used stainless steel counters with a cooktop that is not inset in the middle of the counter top, for example gas cooktops with burner controls on the front, instead on top of the counter.

2) used granite counters and cutout a hole for an induction cooktop

We have yet to find an example of someone who has inset an induction cooktop into a stainless counter. For that matter, we haven't seen a gas or electric cooktop inset within a stainless steel counter, either.

We are concerned with heat, durability, and long term appearance.

Does anyone have experience with this design issue? Pictures to share?
