I'm a big believer on not buying stuff to use and throw out just because it's convenient.
I use a microfiber cloth. You can use it wet or dry. Dry for dusting, or a little bit of water to scrub marks and clean windows.
A good old rag with a squirt of pledge is great too.

Same as dryer sheets. All the chemicals in them isn't good for us. Vinegar works great in the rinse water.

I wash my Swiffer dusters and use them many times over. I like them for high places I can not reach very well, since I am short and "old".

I love mine. I have the one that is on the long telescoping handle. I can get the cobwebs up high and dust my ceiling fan blades with it.

It will also reach behind heavy furniture and down along baseboards. You don't need to spray anything on it.

I don't like using Pledge or any other spray type dusting products.

I am surprised your cleaning lady doesn't have her own eqipment though. Maybe that is how it is - I am just clueless on that stuff, dang it! :)

I, too, try to avoid buying stuff just to throw it away. We don't need all that disposable stuff. I don't even buy stuff like microfiber cloths. Everyone has old sheets, old blankets that are no longer useable. I cut those things into squares and use them for all sorts of household cleaning--tossing them in the washer and reusing as long as possible.

Everyone has their own take, but to me, it's ethically irresponsible to needlessly add extra trash to our planet when it's not necessary.

Ditto what enjoyingspring says. I say put yourself in your cleaning ladys place. If you were doing multiple houses and dusting high places would you like a swiffer duster? If you can afford a cleaning lady you can afford a swiffer duster.

I use one because it is handy because of my mobility problems, but never thought of washing and reusing it. I'm going to try that. Like Iowagirl, I'm not savvy on what a cleaning lady should provide and what her employer should. Alas, I AM the cleaning lady and have to provide all supplies. LOL Dottie

My daughter in Wisconsin and my daughter in Indiana both buy the cleaning supplies for their cleaning ladies. When they are running low, the ladies leave a note.

I use them and really like them. I, too, will try washing them.. Great to get into small places, under things, too.

I wash mine in the washer, but do not dry them in the dryer. Maybe that info will help those that want to try re-using them.

Love my Swiffer sweeper too. Great for cleaning ceilings and walls. And the floor.

You can't beat a dust rag and a can of pledge. I bought a couple of swifter products, a dust cloth does a better job. I bought the mop and it doesn't stay wet long enough to clean a small bathroom floor. Usually I don't buy stuff like that. It is like toy ads at Xmas for kids, sounds so good, as a matter of fact to good to be true.

I'm with those that say get it for her. After all she's doing the cleaning not you. When you do the cleaning yourself then use what you want. Sit down, put your feet up and watch her dust away with her toy.

Back in the day when I had a cleaning lady, she would leave a list of supplies she needed before the next cleaning day. I think this is pretty standard as she would have to adjust what she used somewhat for each household based on allergies and likes and dislikes of the client. So you do have some leeway in choosing but if there are no health reasons for not filling her list then let her use what makes her job easier.

I love my Swiffers, especially for dusing on the TV and computer. I also use microfibre cloths. I can't use Pledge or any dusting spray. I can't stand the fumes/smell; they choke me.

I use a barely damp (with water) cloth if I have a serious dusting issue.

I use a dust cloth lightly dampened by drying my wet hands on it.

I'm with the crowd using rags from towels and t-shirts. If you're washing swiffer sheets, why not wash the rags instead? What's the advantage here? Why would the cleaning ladies care whether you provide swiffer sheets or rags?

As for the pledge, I don't use that, either. Seems to me it eventually just gunks up the furniture. Like sheilajoyce, I dry my wet hands on the dust rag.

...that cheap washcloths (like, a dozen for $3.00) fit the Swiffer mop perfectly, do an outstanding job, and wash hundreds of times!

I love my Swiffer dusters, mop, and floor dusters. They make the workload very light. I can Swiffer my entire home from top to bottom is about an hour. Floors included !!

i used the swiffer duster a few times it was ok but i will say it was great for reaching what i couldnt, i also had the swiffer mop the one you put the pads in it was great for small jobs but for big i still ended up using a towel to dry. i now use those things, they are blue, like paper towels, only way thicker and they are reusable, you can buy them in an auto supply store for like 6.00 (it was 4 last year..inflation) and they work super. i think theres 300 in a roll. they last forever and clean and dry real fast so youre not throwing them out like a regular paper towel. oh and they fit in the swiffer mops too.

I need to get a new one.....I used to pieces of fleece on my old one. I used it for years and finally the thing broke.

I've been using SD for years. As many have said it does a great job of getting up into those high ceiling corners to get the cobwebs. Dusting the crown moldings, etc. I don't have to spray anything on a table or lamp to dust. I also have the Swifter Wet Jet. Quick and easy when washing the kitchen and bathroom floors. NancyLouise

I have a SD and it comes in so handy for hard to reach places. I also have a wrought iron bannister on the stairs. It's great for cleaning all the curlicues on it. I wash mine by hand. It only takes a monent with barely a touch of soap, then I rinse it and lay it across my Sham Wow!! to dry. They last a long time.
I didn't care much for the Wet Jet though.

I supply my cleaning lady with supplies also, and when she is out of something, or almost out, she puts the (empty) container on the counter. Then I know to add it to the list.

I did not like the Wet Jet either. It made my cat sick.
