votive glass replacements

We had a set of Home Interiors - a winter picture, with 2 matching wall sconces. Each had a glass votive in the sconce. A few years back, in doing some moving of stuff, one of the glass votives was knocked off and broke.

We've lived without it, but now we want to use the set in the new family room. It needs either 2 new glass votive cups, or just one to match.

First obvious place to look was eBay. Nothing matches. I have an email question into a seller of two different sets, asking for more definitive measurements of the ones she has - to see if they'll fit.

Second obvious place was Michael's. DH didn't like the ones we found there - too short. So they'll have to go back if I can find the receipt.

Am I missing any other obvious (or not so obvious) place to shop? We have most major chains here in San Diego County - a few are a nice little drive (like IKEA) but they're accessible.

Hello Donna,

I had the same situation a couple months ago but I needed 16 small glass votives so I came here for suggestions where to go to purchase them.

Besides Ebay I was given several links and I was also emailed several more links.

Unfortunately, none of your links had what I was looking for. These kind have a pointy base that goes into a candle holder.

But I did find something nearly perfect on eBay. I had to email the seller to get dimensions and so forth. I'll have to take two plus one that matches, that stands on its own. But the seller was quick to answer my questions and the measurements seem to be that of the old one.

How to do a blue link: highlight the link you want up in your URL bar, then click on Edit, and Copy. When you're down here in "Post a Follow-Up", put your cursor in "Optional Link URL", then go back up to Edit and Paste. The URL you just highlighted and copied, should appear. Then give us a name for your link, in "Name of the Link".

But I think you can only do ONE in that manner, not three. So you did exactly what you should do, when you have more than one link. And thank you SO much for doing so, I do appreciate it!

I just had a thought that came out of the blue. What if you got some silly putty or other firm clay type stuff and stood your glass pieces up in them? Another inexpensive idea is to use a cardboard box. Lay two pieces of glass in it while the box is on it's side, solder them, repeat with next two. You can use a chip clip to hold the upright piece of glass in place while you solder. I have NO idea where these thoughts are coming from; usually not this creative...okay, who's in my brain?!?!?!?!?!?

I was never a fan of slider doors and agree that going back with a swinging door is best. Two 36" doors would be my first choice. If swinging at either end won't work,one can be swung from center. Alternatly,you can install two fixed plus one swinging door. You can choose single pane glass with or without deviders in 1-2 or all three positions. Two 24" slabs fixed at each end plus one pre-hung 32" hinged at center position equal's 80" of door,leaving 16" for jambs and trim. The configurations are endless if you hire a good carpenter.

If you already have a double pane door, the problem may not be the door. Before going into expense of adding another layer of drywall to the walls and ceiling and replacing the door, I would check other things. Like bathroom exhaust fan ducting...is it insulated? HVAC ducts. Plumbing vents. Gaskets on all the exterior wall switches & receptacles as well as ceiling lights. Recessed light cans? Pull a piece of door/ window trim and check that the space between the jamb and framing is insulated.
