Birthday quilt for my Daughter

This is the Jenny Beyer quilt I have been working on for my youngers daughters (lol) 60th birthday next week. I have been hand quilting it for a while. Made the mistake of wanting to hand quilting in the ditch, which wasn't a wise thing to do as it doesn't show and was very difficult to do. A lesson learned.

it sounds like you're both feeling her absence (I've noticed that guys, simply because they don't have girlfriends to cry to, tend to respond to pain by being short-tempered) and no, after being on good behavior for two straight days and making sure I didn't rain on anyone else's parade- I'd have fallen over, dragged myself under the couch, and sat there in the dark, crying with the cats. hopefully, things will improve over the next few weeks. doing something 'for her' helps - work with a reading program 'for' my nanna (who left me her library) and garden 'for' my aunt, who was dreadfully talented with paints, but couldn't keep a spider plant alive. it does help.and staying busy yourself will help chase off the sharks with stethescopes.

Julie, like Susan said, don't worry about "normal".There is no "normal". Each one of us grieves as differently as each of our personalities and experiences with our loved ones who have left us. Being that we all have different experiences with our loves, we have different hurts, issues to deal with, circumstances to straighten out in our heads and the list goes on and on. We all have that basic grief, but there is no time table or rules when it comes to what we are feeling inside and when it surfaces. Birthdays are hard for me. Harder than the "Heaven Day" as I call it. I try not to think too much about the fact that I won't ever see Chris again in this life. I try to remember that this life is VERY short compared to the eternity of pure happiness that I will spend with her after my time here is up. That is a happy thought. Try to replace your bad/sad thoughts with happy ones. It will help you survive this. I too, can honestly finally see a significant difference in my emotional state since Chris left. It has been 6 years and 5 months. My heart is finally feeling lighter and I am more ready to do fun things. Chris knows I love her and always will. Well, I raised her older brother also. His birthday is next Wed. One wk between their birthdays, he's going to be.....31....no! How did 30 years of life fly by so extremely fast? Thank you for all the compliments. She is gorgeous. And better yet, she is a truly NICE person. Very caring, very friendly, will help anyone, not a "catty girl" bone in her body. God blessed us greatly.

It's beautiful. I love the colors, pattern and the borders really set it off. Lucky you put some of that spectacular hand quilting where you can see it!

Outstanding, Jayne! What a treasure she will have....wrapped in her mom's love and expertise. I used to enjoy hand quilting but haven't been able to for quite a few years. You are blessed that you're still able to make those wonderful stitches. It's a beauty!

Thank you all... Can't take credit for the pattern or the fabric as Jenny Beyer choose them for me...but it was fun to make and a challenge to quilt, SID is not the way to go while hand quilting...lol. My daughter is fond of butterfly's and I am of hearts, thus the design for the boarder.

Yes, I learned the hard way (years ago) that SID quilting by hand was not the best way. Guess we just think "well, it's just quilting after all, what could be bad?" And then, we find out.....
