Don't be surprised if he recants his confession later, that's been his habit so far. He has told many, many versions of what happened to Natalee. A really sick, unbalanced young man.

The thing is, they probably showed him their evidence--the tape that seems to show him, the young woman, and no one else entering his room. He also was caught with bloody clothes in his bag. He's not an unintelligent young man--he knows he's been snagged this time. There's not a lot he can do to make up a believable lie in this particular case. And from what I'm hearing, cooperation is good for a huge reduction in sentence in Peru, so he's playing the odds. I seriously doubt he'll recant and take a chance of maybe having to spent 35 years in a prison that has been described as one of the worst in the world, and as 'the gates of hell' (35 men housed in a room the size of my living room is frightening--that's not enough room for them all to lie down at once).

It's just despicable, though, the ridiculous story he's told--that he walked into the room from getting coffee, found the young woman searching him on the computer, so he had to kill her? Like it's reasonable? And he hasn't explained WHY her pants were off--doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the tale he's telling.

The truly terrifying thing is that these murders happened 5 years apart. Are there other young women who have gone missing after meeting him? Perhaps women who weren't lucky enough to meet up with him in a hotel with such good surveillance?

While everyone is glad Joran's rich and powerful father is not around anymore to get his precious snowflake out this mess this time (supposedly helping dispose of a dead body and pulling political strings to make the case go away), the young man's mother is now whining about how her son is being treated. She complained; "He said, 'I'm being interrogated in a very rude way' Â" Good grief. She is claiming the confession is coerced. And I suppose she feels all the evidence should just be ignored and we just go by the guy's word and let the poor baby go back about his business.

Well, I think he "does" have something to lose if he confesses to Natalee's murder. There is a statute of limitations in Aruba of ten years or fifteen years for murder (can't remember which)...five years has gone by already....I don't know what the penalty for murder is there, but maybe they have the death sentence...if he goes ten more years without them finding Natalee's body or getting a confession or evidence...he is clear of that case. But...they are investigating the disappearances of some girls in Thailand when he was there...he may truly be a serial killer....

Good point maybee...I didnt think about that. Peru doesn't have life sentences or the death penalty. Couple that with the possible lighter sentence he could get because he confessed, he could be a free man someday. Whereas if he confessed to Natalee's murder, he might be put away alot longer.

But even if he truly didnt have anything to lose, I think he'd never confess to Natalee's murder for the simple fact that he doesn't want to. He wants to know he has the upper hand holding all the information her family so desperately wants and needs.

He's a sicko. I hope they treat him "well" in prison.

I'd guess there are, probably poor women, women from powerless families, girls who had been runaways, etc.

I read somewhere that Peru does have the death penalty, but only for certain crimes, seems like maybe treason & killing a cop, & that killing as a "crime of passion" (she just made him so *mad*!) carries a lighter sentence than murdering for some other reason.

I still want to know why (and what he's saying about 'why') her pants were removed IF she just 'made him so mad' he had to kill her. Especially since, according to a family member I heard interviewed, she was a lesbian. I certainly hope the authorities look into the possibility (probability) that she was raped.

I don't think Peru is going to question a foreigner (Dutch) about a crime committed in another country (Aruba) against a foreigner (American) there. They certainly can't try him for a crime he committed in Aruba. I don't know, even if he confesses, Aruba may not want to try him on that confession alone. Remember, he has given five different confessions at various times implicating himself in some way with the Halloway disappearance and Aruba did nothing. Then he then recanted them all.

Supposedly they are willing to turn him over to the US on the warrant once he has finished his sentence for the murder in Peru. I don't think they will turn him over for any other trial in any other countries until they are "done" with him though. There is the chance that going off to a trial in Aruba he may "accidentally" get away and disappear. His family could still pull strings even without Dad.
