Just finished Lisa Scottoline's Come Home and am now reading Lisa Gardner's book. It's upstairs and I forget the title. Pretty good so far. I hate it when all my books on reserve come in at once.

For the second time I'm reading Great Expectations by Dickens. I remember really enjoying it when I read it for the first time many years ago. I believe it was required reading for an English class.

Just finishing up with "Beach House Memories" by Mary Alice Monroe. A sequel to "Beach House" and "Swimming Lessons" all by Mary Alice Monroe.

I am reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett. With each new chapter, I don't know if I will be laughing or crying.

Just finished "Fifty Shades of Grey" HOT HOT HOT. Am eagerly awaiting the 2nd book from the library.

I'm reading Memories of the Afterlife, by Michael Newton. Dr. Newton is a psychiatrist whose first two books, Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls, recount people's stories (told to him under hypnosis) of their lives between lives--that is, between incarnations. I loved those two books; in fact, I never finished the second because I didn't want it to end.

My bedside reading is J.D. Robb's Divided in Death. I have a nice stack of her books to pig out on. :-)

Just finished the 2nd book of the Nora Roberts Trilogy -
Reading Sisters of Fortune non-fiction about 3 sisters from Maryland before and after the War of 1812. Very interesting.

Currently reading "Toys" by James Patterson. I'm having a hard time getting into this one--it's the first book by Patterson that I didn't love from page one.

Just finished The Woman Next Door by Barbara Delinsky. It was not as good and up lifting as her books usually are. The one I read before this one was The Vineyard which was excellent.

Well, I have 3 going at this time. Usually I only have 2. I have one book on the porch, one for bedtime reading and one in the den with bose ear muff to deaden the sound of husband's t.v. constantly blaring. LOL

Love summer time reading after all the gardening is done and housework is well, lets say it is partly done...and reading expands my horizons...housework does not. LOL

Finally got around to reading U is for Undertow one of the Kinsey Milhone mysteries. Next up another Ladies No 1 Detective book, number 11. I have gotten my mother hooked on these wonderful books as well.

Just this morning finished the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. (I know....late to the party) It really is a good book, and even tho I lived in Germany and Great Britain 15 years after the war, and had heard many first hand stories....the harshness of the experience and the courage of the people never fails to impress.

In the meantime, I have tried to 'send away' many books that I have loved and read....Steinbeck, Mitchner etc....only to have 3 of them open and being read again: the journal Steinbeck wrote while writing East of Eden, To a God Unknown etc...they are all worth a second and third read. And, the OLD paperbacks I have, have covers that are works of art. So hard to part with.

I've been rereading several Jayne Ann Krentz books. My sister died a couple weeks ago and to cope with that, I reread favorite books. My oldest daughter always told me I was into denial. she's right but you gotta do what ya gotta do.

Over half way through 50 Shades of Grey. A friend read the whole trilogy and it is fun to discuss it.

Just finished With no one as witness by
Elizabeth George. It was okay. About a serial killer.
It was long, with too much detail about minor players.
And she is American, living here on Whidbey Island. It
was based in England with a few other Ethnic players.
And it was hard to read sometimes as she tried to write in
the accents. She was writing in a Haitian with a Haitian
and English accent. I finally got used to it, but it
was really hard.

Allison, I think those sound great! I'm going to have to keep my eye out for them next time I go to the library.

I just finished a book called "Yoga B*tch" by Suzanne Morrison. "One Woman's Quest to Conquer Skepticism, Cynicism, and Cigarettes on the Path to Enlightenment". I absolutely loved it! It's hilarious and a great story. I started practicing yoga recently and I can totally relate to the author.

I'm also reading "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle. It's a slow read for me, but fascinating. Makes you do a lot of self examination and think about people and the world differently.

I also just checked out "The Autoimmune Epidemic" by Donna Jackson Nakazawa from the library. Haven't started it yet, but a little description from amazon is "You will leave this book with no reservations about the veracity of the conclusions: put simply, there is no doubt that autoimmune diseases are on the rise and increasing environmental exposures of toxins and chemicals is fueling this rise. The research is sound. The conclusions unassailable..."

Sounded really interesting.

I am reading Unbroken, the biography of Louie Zamperini. It is written by the same woman who wrote Seabiscuit. It is excellent. My mom lived through WWII and always donates to organizations that support WWII vets. I never understood why until I read this book. What they faced is unbelievable. They were true heroes.

Dedtired, I read Unbroken last year. Although I thought I had some idea of what our POWs went through, I really had NO idea. I agree, they are true heroes. Mr Zamperini gave a little talk at a local library soon after I read the book and I will always kick myself for not meeting him and thanking him.

I always have a few books going at once. Right now they are:

1. Wild, by Cheryl Strayed (it isn't at all the type of book I would normally read, but I'm loving it)

2. Fifty Shades of Grey (can't read much of it in one sitting, but that's okay, doesn't really have much of a plot in my opinion)

3. Three to Get Deadly (#3 in the Stephanie Plum series, Evanovich is always good for a laugh)

I'm reading The Edge of the Crazies a mystery by Jamie Harrison. It is the start of a series I think I will like. The central character is a new sheriff in Blue Deer Montana, at the foot of the Crazy Mountains. I like series because I enjoy knowing the characters and places,etc. I have read my way through CJ Box, Deborah Crombie and Elizabeth George and enjoyed them all.

I am on book 3 of the Fifty Shades trilogy, I skim through a lot of the fluff, there is actually a story in there, book 3 is getting better. I personally would not have bought them, but for free, ok.

I have also started the new Harlan Coben book, Stay Close.

I have also read the first two books of Nora Roberts trilogy - The Next Always (Is that the one you read OP?) and The Last Boyfriend. The third book doesn't come out till fall I think. I also had read her book, The Witness before that.

Now I have moved on to a new author for me. I downloaded for free Just A Wish Away by Barbara Freethy. Enjoyed it so I ordered Ryan's Return, followed by Silent Run and am now reading Silent Fall.

I stick to "light' books - so I admire those who read the classics and non-fiction.

Just finished Lee Child's Killing Floor and have started Mary Alice Monroe's Sweetgrass. I've read all Monroe's that our library has to offer and enjoy her stories a lot. Next on the list is Gayle Roper's Shadows on the Sand.

I reread my favorite books and someone asked me why. I said we listen to the same music over and over, why not reread something that makes you feel good.

Just finished "Steve Jobs" By Walter Isaacson. What a complex person he was. I rarely read non-fiction, except I sometimes do like collections of short stories. Bio's are my favorite reading.

I just received The Risk Agent by Ridley Pearson so I will start that soon. I also just received 13 Mary Stewart re-issues so that I can read them all again. I would love to have them as e-books, but they aren't available in North America so I bought the trade paperbacks instead.

Shirleyinadirondacks, I'm sorry for your loss and I totally understand visiting old literary friends for comfort. That's what characters in books often are, aren't they...friends that lead lives more interesting than ours and who make no demands on us except our time.

These are the latest books I have read. Biographies and Medical Mysteries are my favourite books.

Inconceivable by Carolyn Savage. A true story about a woman who underwent IVF and had someone elses embryos planted in her womb in error. A really incredible story about a really brave lady.

Madeleine by Kate McCann. A story about a kidnapped 3 year old and her parents search to find her.

Shirley: My sympathies, but you are right: You do what you have to do just to get through the day. (I watched movie after movie tucked under the covers after my dog died a few years ago; many of them were good for a full-body cry, which I needed! I have no idea how I'd cope when my siblings pass, but maybe I'll have the good fortune to go first...)

My reading: I just finished "Lucia, Lucia" (which is an old book by now, but I love all the description; the author sets the scenes so vividly!).

Now I'm reading the latest of the "No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency"-- "The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection" (Only 2 chapters in).

I just LOVED The Witness by Nora Roberts! If you only read one book this summer, make it The Witness!
Just finished The Next Always, also by NR, and today started Molaka'i. So far, I really like it.
I also read Stay Close, by Harlin Corbin and really enjoyed that book, also.
I can't wait to start the next book by NR, The Last Boyfriend, but it will have to wait because a few of my library requests came in at the same time!

I just finished Calico Joe by John Grisham. I'm not much of a Grisham fan, but I am a baseball fan, and this was a well-told story IMHO. It's more of a novella than a novel. I read Exit 81 another short work this one only on Kindle from Stephen King. It's really good, if you like the genre. I re-read Catcher in the Rye and am reading Ann Beattie's New Yorker stories. I do like the short story format, especially at bedtime. I will read Great Expectations this summer. It's my choice for my book group, and I haven't read it since junior high. I bought Canada from Richard Ford. He's an excellent writer and was a classmate of mine in college.
