I just started WHEN THE WORLD CAME TO NEWFOUNDLAND .About the grounding of the planes on 9/11. Where were the going to put all the planes and people?

Eileen, David Baldacci is one of my favorite authors! Right now, I'm reading "The Hit" by him--of course, it's very good since all of his books are very good.

I just finished the first two books of the "Miss Julia" series by Ann B. Ross. They are delightful, easy-to-read books and I look forward to reading the remaining 11 of the series.

I am reading 'People of the Lie' by M. Scott Peck, M.D. it is about~the hope of healing human evil~it is very good.

And for fun I am reading 'Holidays on ice' by David Sedaris, he has very different humor and it is very funny.

I am working my way through the Joe Pickett books by CJ Box. I am about to start the third book.

I just finished The Master Butcher's Singing Club, by Louise Erdrich. I do love her writing, which is usually about Native Americans. This one was about a young man who fought for Germany in WWI, then came to a small town in North Dakota, bringing sausages from his father.. The sale of them started his meat business, but the story is about a number of other people in the town. Good, good book.

I am reading The Wrong Girl by Hank Phillipi Ryan. It seems that the adopted daughter and the birth mother who are reunited by the adoption society are NOT mother and daughter.

I often have a few books on the go, so I can read according to my mood. Right now I've got Bad monkey by Carl Hiaasen, which got great reviews; also, Paris by Edward Rutherfurd and The end of the alphabet by C.S. Richardson. I found Richardson's book on a book club list and thought it might be a good one for Book of the Week, but it seems very slight. I will finish it and then decide, depending on how good the story is.

I am working my way through Different Seasons by Stephen King. It includes four of his shorter works, the first being one of my favs--he Shawshank Redemption. Some of his work is too dark for me as is the second selection in the book--Apt Student.
I have not made it to the other two selections yet. I probably would not have selected this book but a friend brought it to me.

Pam-25 I am reading the exact same book.The Wrong Girl...it is kind of choppy and hard for me to follow. I love the story though so I am slugging through it. What do you think about the writing?

grannytme - I may have the wrong book but i'll just mention that I think the proper name for your suggested book is "The Day the World came to Town".

I tried to find your title in my library to read but couldn't and finally tracked it through the internet to this title.

I just finished Lisa Gardner's Touch and Go, and have started on another by her, Live to Tell. I hadn't read Lisa Gardner in several years, and don't remember her being this good. She really nails the psychological side of these books! Either her writing has improved, or my memory is at fault. More likely the latter.

ghoghunter JoAnn. I thought I was having trouble focusing because my life is chaotic this week, but now I think I agree with you. Maybe the narrative changes people too much? Do you read the Jungle Red Writers blog (Writing is the best revenge). Some of those writers are favorites of mine. Hank is on there.

I just finished "Pandora's Lunchbox" by Melanie Warner, which is a history of "how processed food took over the American Meal"---which is the subtitle.

I don't particularly like fiction novels, having three I recently tried put me to sleep. However, I did read to the end "Family Pictures" by Jane Green, which was a smidge better than OK. I do however like compilations of short stories, which get to the point quicker & usually better, so I'll have to look into that next trip to the library.

been catching up on Clive Cussler's Kurt Austin series ..and a local author , James Duermeyer's Market Time Conspiracy and his first book , Flint Bluff tells of a couple families growing in Iowa in the 1800s.

I've never read the Jungle Blog Pam. I am loving the book but I think the author jumps back and forth too often with no explanation...that's just my humble opinion though. Even so I can't put the book down...I love murder mysteries!!

I just finished The Hard Way by Lee Child. One of the Jack Reacher series. And I have his newest one sitting on the table! Can't wait.

I'm reading James Patterson's Violets Are Blue, right now, after just finishing his Roses are Red.

These are in his "Alex Cross" series.

I read Mary, Mary by James Patterson last weekend. I had the book sitting around here for a couple of years and finally decided to read it. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. Another of the Alex Cross series.

The Day the World Came to Town (Newfoundland) is a wonderful, heart-filled read.

Anything by David Sedaris is worth a look ... he's a funny, funny guy.

Steven King's Different Seasons is one of my all time favorites and all four novelettes in the book have now been made into great films; The Shawshank Redemption - Apt Pupil - Stand by Me and Thinner.

Have read most of the Alex Cross books and enjoyed them.

Haven't had a great deal of time to read lately but am about to start Khaled Husseini's And the Mountains Echoed. Husseini is the author of The Kite Runner and Seven Splendid Suns.

I just started And the Mountains Echoed and it is starting off pretty good. I have read his other two books. I also just finished the series of books of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Twirling Naked in the Streets and No One Noticed by Jeannie Davide- Rivera. The author had undiagnosed Asperger's and is writing from an adult perspective about her childhood experience. I am about half way through it and would recommend it to anyone with a family member or child with autism. I have read many books on autism but this book brings clarity that other books do not explain in the same context.

I just finished The Silver Star by Jeannette Walls. Truly enjoyed reading it, but I enjoy all her books.

Many of my favorite writers are listed but I will add a couple of ones not mentioned. Finished Pat Conroy's South of Broad a few weeks ago. It still sits by my bed as I just love the way he says things. Very much a South Carolina voice in my head (like my BFF who is long gone). Now I am reading another older (1999) book b y Greg Iles, The Quiet Game. Another 'set in the South' book. He is another writer that I really like.... not really light reading, but very good. Richard North Patterson is another guy that writes well and keeps me up nights. Thanks for the new names for me to check out!

I'm halfway through Diane Mott Davidson's latest mystery, "The Whole Enchilada." The lead character is a caterer named Goldy who finds herself in a murder mystery. It's "light" reading, but I'll tell you -- once you get started on the series books (like Evanovich, Grafton, Alexander McCall Smith) -- it's hard not to look forward to the next one!

I like Lisa Gardener and recommended Touch and Go to my husband who then read some of her others because he liked it so much. I just finished Sisterhood which I liked and am almost finished 'Manson'. Very interesting to see how this creepy little man made all those people do those terrible crimes. I remember that time in the late 60's well. Lots of violence everywhere.

I also love all the Michael Connelly novels...Harry Bosch series and Mikey Haller...they are all good. Also Lee Child's Reacher series...they are all great reads too. How about Lawrence Block and his Burgler series or his Hit Man series. Does anyone else love them?

Yesterday I started reading Stephen King's Under The Dome. I watched the TV show (didn't really like it) but several of my co-workers stressed that the book was way better and extremely different. So far I agree. The only similarity is that there is a dome and the names of the characters. Almost everything else is different.

I just finished Sue Graftons "W is for Wasted" and it was one of her best!

Now I am reading books by Cathy Glass.

I am reading Time Line by Michael Crighton. Very interesting.
Tomorrow we will stop by the library to see what they have new on the "new book" shelves.

I havn't read for a long while (just hit a block for almost a year) but dug out my old fun Jayne castle ( Jayne ann krentz) series of other planets, but originally from earth....
