Time again for the weekend question... what are you quilting?

I was at a workshop held at my church today. Three of us used the same pattern to make snowman wall hangings. Others made and put binding on a quilt, sandwiched and pinned a quilt for hand quilting, marked squares for HSTs, and sewed a FQ quilt.

We always have a "planned potluck" lunch. Today we had homemade vegetable soup, pasta salad, deviled eggs, cheese/crackers, a pumpkin dessert, cider, and coffee. We had cookies and zucchini bread for our coffee break in the morning.

I completed the machine sewing on the wall hanging and made a smaller version to be the "monthly mini" at the next guild meeting.

Overall..it was a great day with good friends, good food, and fun quilting projects.

I am working on the round robin center that I received this week. I am auditioning fabrics for the plan that I have for it. I also have a challenge quilt that I am working on for the Pigeon Forge, TN Quiltfest.

I hope to finish hand sewing the binding on the backside of the large lap quilt I just finished. It's big - 90 inches square - and my fingers are ouching already and I still have 2 sides to go. THEN guess what? I need to figure out the NEXT project! Guess I should tidy up the sewing room first?? UGH!

Probably no quilting for me this weekend. I am sewing though: hemming and finishing the edges on 60" wide outdoor fabric to use as long drapes (11 feet tall) in my patio. They provide a little shade so the late afternoon sun doesn't beat into my kitchen and also separate the pool from the sitting area in the patio. I had a narrow stripe up for the past 5 years but even Sunbrella finally gets trashed by the weather here in Florida so when I took those drapes down to paint recently I knew it was time for new fabric. I finally finished the wedding quilt I've been working on so maybe later today I'll get pictures posted of that, too. Have a great weekend! Kate

Finishing a binding on a 'pirate' quilt for DGS. It's not a surprise or a gift, just a 'because I love you' quilt. When he saw it in progress I had just added the inner border. It was to be a throw size as he already has a quilt for his bed from his GG. He looked at the qlt & said 'Gma, haven't you seen my bed?! It needs to be bigger! Not this way (horizontal) but THIS way (vertical)' Out of the mouths of babes :) The young man knows what he wants! He's 6, so off came the border, another row of blocks added, then (since I ran out of backround fabric) I added 4 borders instead of the 2 I had originally planned. Can't wait to see if this quilt 'measures up'!! Am going w/my mom to check out a new LQS about 40 mi from here. Anxious to see it-- altho small, apparently they sell top quality fabric, incl Moda, my fav, for $5.99/yd This could be my new fav store!! there goes my budget! lol Later I'll work on my lotto blocks, the applique this month is totally inspiring:) This forum is just way too much fun!!* *Any lurkers out there, dive right in!! Hi, it is nice to meet you Teresa and Karlene. Here are pics of the first quilt I made. I made it completely by hand so it took me several years. It's a backwards pinwheel quilt. Here is a small quilt I made for my friend's new puppy. I used 9" Card Tricks block and used a towel instead of batting so is not a choking hazard to the puppy. And here is a baby quilt I made completely by hand for a close friend of mine. It's made of apple prints using the 9" Card Tricks block. Here is the quilt top for my niece's baby doll's quilt which is going to be her Christmas present this year. Am making a matching pillow to go with it. It's made of 4 9" blocks. Here is a group project I coordinated for GW's Linda Ruzicka's grand-daughter's baby quilt. And here is the 9" block I am making for my queen-size Card Tricks quilt. Hoping to finish it in 2011. Am starting an applique canning jar lap-quilt for my mom's Christmas present this week. In 2011 I want to start a queensize Grandma's Flower Garden hexagon quilt and make some embroidered lap-quilts. And I have a back burner 9" flower pot applique that I have the plastic templates for and have started cutting out a few flowers for. My sister had gotten me in 2008 the Better Homes and Gardens "Quilt Pink for Hope" quilt book, so am having fun making 9" blocks this year. Best to you, Sandra aka quiltingfox

2 weekends in a row, no sewing. Had to go through 12 boxes of cookbooks (old) last weekend that belonged to MIL, now waiting for anyone who wants any to go through them again, all that aren't chosen will be going to the local ministry and sold at the monthly flea market - all proceeds go to the homeless/needy. They were not cared for, kept in an un-airconditioned and dirty environment. I had to inspect and clean each one separately. This past weekend the 3 grandkids spent the weekend. Yesterday I went back to volunteering at the local community center for developmentally disabled adults (equine therapy). You want to find out what hard work is, try pushing a horse around all day in 90 degree heat. I also volunteer twice a month at the other center (data entry). And today it's catch-up time with laundry and finally getting some rest. On top of that I never finish-mowed the lawn so that needs to get done, too. I need to find a job so I can get some rest!

I struggling with a block for "Sylvia", "fools puzzle" the puzzle is why this "fool" is doing it!! 2" drunkard path blocks are not realistic! Then I went shopping for "pinks" for my next baby quilt. Not my favorite color but mamma choice. Found a few, hope I can make them work. Jayne

I'm working on an applique project and putting borders on a kaleidoscope wallhanging.

I'm also trying to pull together projects for the retreat. I have many candidates and must decide what will fit in the suitcase since I fly there. Those who can drive have more leeway. If I ever drive, my car will be full of tubs of fabric and tools so I can just go out to the car and pick something as the whim strikes. What a treat that would be. Or better yet, maybe next year they'll all come to my house and I won't have to decide.

I have started a double irish chain quilt...kingsize...hope to have it finished and hand quilted by Christmas...

Linda, I wish I could find some quilting friends in my area. Glad you had a great day.
I am working on a scrappy triple Irish chain for my baby sis. So far I really like it!!!!!

SIL's parents in from England for two weeks so spending some time with them when I can, husband out of town for few days, a dear, dear grand dog died and have had an issue with some game poachers, I think and am in a sad and mad mood. Spent the last two days cleaning out junk drawers and the old canned goods from the pantry, so I have a place to store the new stuff I've been canning.

I did get upstairs this morning to make and sew an applique for a quilt on the wall I've been working on for months, very sporadically. ust so I could say I worked on the quilt, LOL. I have one Dresden plate to make for it and I can sew the blocks together and move forth. Might get to it tomorrow and just 'get 'er done' to sandwich.

Aw, Calliope, I hope you feel better soon! I'm so sorry to hear about the grand-dog.

I went to a quilt show with friends yesterday & saw a trunk show by Bonnie Hunter (Quiltville). It was a great day!

Today I finished quilting my nativity quilt for the bazaar...hoping to get binding made & sewn on the front tomorrow so I can hand-sew the back tomorrow evening.

I am spending time doing catch up work on my UFO's and making progress for a change. I bought a new template at eh Ohio Quilt Show (for making ~ square in square) and used it to make some door knob hangers. I am in the process of the last of the hand stitching on the bindings. I used my Christmas/winter scraps to try out the new gadget and ended up with 6 door hangers...going to put away for the holidays. They are coming out cute.

I am also looking at all my left over holiday fabric and working on a small 9 to 4 patch. Still trying to see what I can do with them. Maybe have enough for a small table square/runner? We will see. Been wanting to try this pattern for a while.
