Looking for feedback on a kitchen layout

These are renderings just to figure the layout-finishes, type of cabinets, etc. will be decided layout, just beginning the process. I'm looking for feedback about placement of appliances/cabinets mostly. The room is a nice size-10 1/2 feet by 15 1/2 feet, but is challenging due to the placement of two door openings and two north-facing windows. I believe the wall that the stove and fridge are currently on is loadbearing. We are also considering widening the doorways to open it up a little since the current doorways are only about 2 1/2 feet wide. We are interested in resale as we don't know that this is our forever home, but also in usefulness-we have 3 small children. My pantry is in my hall closet because I probably need 2 more cupboards for food storage and the large table with chairs now in the kitchen has 4 large drawers, so if it's taken out, I need to replace that storage. I could probably also use 1-2 cabinets to ease my currently bursting "kitchen stuff" cabinets. I've already decluttered, so what's in there needs to fit.

CURRENT layout:

The table is a large island with seating for 3 (the children eat their breakfast there) and 4 huge storage drawers.

The EASY and cheapest solution is to make a peninsula and add a pantry in the corner.

Another idea is to add a peninsula and a WORK station by the window (shelves under the window with a counter

Another idea is to put a counter for SEATING UNDER THE WINDOW and add a set of cabinets and a tall pantry and have a workspace, but I don't know that this addresses my storage concern.

I could just throw in a bunch of CABINETS and a seating counter under the window...

Add an ISLAND with cooktop, I'd put a higher level for eating so the cooktop is a lower level than the eating area...

This is the GRAND plan-the "table" would be a passthru to the next room, but I have to keep 1/2 the wall for putting the tv on the other side-the angled cabinets would be a pantry of sorts.

This one only moves the stove, and the dishwasher to the other side by the wall (or could I have the dishwasher next to the stove???) and puts the PANTRY around the FRIDGE

Everyone here will tell you that you need to have a landing space on either side of the stove. 18" is ideal, but anything is better than nothing AND right by a door. So nix any of the ideas with the stove one the end of a run.

Then, post the actual plans (not the 3D images). People need to see measurements/clearances to give you the best feedback.

I agree we need to see an actual layout with measurements. Can you put in real venting? Then put the microwave somewhere else.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I would like to keep the main sink on the east wall so I can gaze out the window when doing dishes. And yes owls4me I did put the fridge on the south wall because the main traffic pattern is from the dining room, and I was trying to avoid having the fridge doors open while people are trying to walk through that aisle. I thought the wall oven placement would be ok in that isle since it is used less frequently (since I also have a range. I switched the microwave to the other side of the range, and slide the south wall cabinet run down further per the suggestions. Some have said the trash is too far from the prep sink. I was assuming having it close to the main sink would be more desirable? Bmorepanic, I love the idea of a window seat on the east window. Great way to add some personality.

I agree about the corner base cabinets...while it's nice to have the extra countertop when you have diagonal cabinets, you really don't have the room in your kitchen for them. The cabinets w/a 90o corner will give you 12" of "breathing space" on each side of the range as well as open the kitchen up somewhat. As to the uppers, I think the problem w/the corner cabinets on the wall is the hood. The hood is pretty big for your kitchen and when combined with the diagonal corner upper cabinets it looks pretty crowded on that wall. I'd either change the hood to something less "massive" or also put in upper cabinets w/a 90o corner. As to baskets...it probably isn't a good idea to store your potatoes & onions that close to each other. This topic periodically comes up and it's usually brought up that these items should not be stored together.

Thanks all for your helpful input. I don't want to drop the idea of a peninsula just yet. Does anyone think it could work here? I do think the family room drawing might be throwing everyone off. It looks tight based on the positioning of the couch, but my old house was almost exactly the same size and there was a good amount of space between the kitchen and the family room (about 4-5ft between stools and couch, which was comfortable to walk through). The fridge/freezer, yes it is big, but it's a counter depth, side-by-side appliance. I had the exact fridge/freezer combo at my old house and it worked quite well, didn't seem to be out of scale. Sjhockeyfan, this is an urban area, but we tend to stockpile when shopping, Costco sized everything. Lisa, we came from a very similar sized kitchen and used up almost every inch of cabinets/drawers! I think this fact alone makes the L shape suggested by mama goose unlikely (though I do really appreciate the suggestion and visual). I suppose in order of importance: 1. We require at least 42'' aisles; 2. We would like storage on all three walls, plus in an island or peninsula; and Ideally, we would like 4 barstools at the island or peninsula. ..could this work? Thanks! @anj_p I agree about the island being a barrier. I had placed the fridge at the end of the run with the range, but just to the side of the kitchen is the main entry way (split level house) and the side of the fridge/fridge panel would be the first thing you see and would block the view in to the rest of the kitchen. I added the shallow 15" cabinets there to keep things feeling more open. The nice part about where the fridge is placed currently is that we're reconfiguring that wall, so we can set a full depth fridge in to the wall to look more 'counter depth'. I do agree about the fridge location not being ideal though... I just haven't been able to find a better solution... @acm I'm planning on having an open shelf that will go along that 1 foot gap and turn the corner and run along the wall beside the sink. I think I'll change it back to a solid door instead of glass, as I agree there isn't really an advantage. Thanks!

Thank you for the feedback, I am in the very early stages so the 3D was easier for me to visualize... maybe I'll pick a top 2-3 and then post the measurements? Yes, I can put in real venting, but there is none in right now (the microwave just "cleans" and puts back into the kitchen) since a bathroom on the same level also needs a fan, I'll have both these project done at the same time. I can either vent out through the roof or if I can move the stove to the outside/window wall then I could vent out the side of the house. One more thought came to mind. I really like the idea of the sink and stove on the same side of the kitchen since once you get everything out of the fridge it's out of there, but I'm frequently having small children run underfoot when trying to bring hot things like pasta to the stove to drain as the are across the kitchen right now. This idea is to put the stove in between the windows and move the dishwasher to the left of the sink-I could have a 9" pan cabinet so that the dishwasher is not RIGHT against the wall as some people have told me that bothers them, but for me, I'm standing in front of the sink when loading and unloading so I guess that doesn't bother me.

I would store the dishes and glasses on the lower right of the pantry around the fridge-close to dishwasher and dining area (dining room is out the door to the bottom of the picture). I have the dishes in a bottom cabinet so that my 3, 5 & 8 year olds can reach to unload the dishwasher and set the table.

I'll see if I can't narrow it down and post 2D with measurements. Right now I'm doing big picture I guess :)

It's fine to just draw it out on graph paper. I agree to have the sink and range in the same run.

I like seating facing the cook much better than seating facing a window. So I vote for the peninsula or island plans.

My kitchen is a similar size and shape to yours so I'm interested in your plans!

Scrap anything that doesn't have landing space on either side of the range, and any that have range and sink on opposite sides. Do a floor plan with measurements of the remaining options. Also, please include a plan of the first floor (it doesn't need to be as detailed) just to give us an idea of flow.

If you are serious about the Grand Plan, you may want to include measurements of the adjoining room and explain it's use and traffic patterns so we can help you decide if that would actually work well in your space.

Here is the current set up. The island is an IKEA one with 4 large drawers, which are very useful and I'd need to replace that storage elsewhere if we got rid of the table. The top opening leads to the dining (we'd like to open that up about a foot on each side) the other door to the living room and stairs to entry (about 4 steps to entry landing).

So far my favorite is to move the dishwasher to the other side (next to wall/dishwasher), oven between the windows, fridge with pantry all around it in the middle of the opposite wall. I think I can fit a small drawer cabinet between the sink and oven giving a landing pad (another could go under the other window) but I'm lost what to do with the rest of the area-we do use the eat in quite a bit right now with small children, but maybe we'd use the dining room more if it was more open to the kitchen (we use the dining room for dinner, usually eat in for breakfast and lunch-3 small children). Also, is it weird to have the dishwasher next to the wall like that (there would be room for a small sheet cabinet in between if that helps). I kind of like that the dishwasher would be next to the dining room for unloading directly to set the table, and I'd put cups and plates across the way in the lower right of pantry around the fridge-across from dishwasher as 3, 5 & 9 year old children unload dishwasher and set the table, so our dishes are kept in a base cabinet.
